Blech, why mess with a good thing? Overrun is a good, balanced, flavourful and card. It does what a green sorcery should do and it did it well. I can see too many scenarios where Overrun would be better than this. You rarely need more than +3/+3 to all creatures and trample to finish off your opponent. Cards like this work best in decks which have a large number of creatures, not big ones. Token decks and small elves will often find themselves wanting for the original. It has the potential to be better but I predict it will be used by less decks.

It's just another take on Overrun. It can be good for creature swarms, such as one, say, headed by a Grave Titan or a Might Sliver, but not so good when it comes to token swarms or a bunch of weenies. There are pros and cons, and decks using this will be very different from decks using Overrun.

This goes so well with my current green deck. This is far superior to Overrun when you have a bunch of (or maybe 1 or 2 surrounded by smaller, unimportant guys) big guys out on the field. Plus the mana cost is much easier to attain when its not a pure green deck. I love the idea of an 18/18 shrouded trampler swinging in, even if there's just one or two others stampeding with him. I also like the idea of plopping a Khalni Hydra in amongst a horde of little green creatures for free and then using this to give them +8/+8 and trample.
Of course, my tiny creature/token deck will still use Overrun, since the strongest they would ever really be is maybe a 3/3. It's not a definite improvement over Overrun, but it just suits different decks (and with the same mana cost, its not too big of a deal to run either over the other).
@Temple_Garden: How on earth is not needing more to finish off your opponent a bad thing? I personally like seeing them go in the negatives, heh.

I'm going to miss overrun but I can't deny this is a good card, I would've preferred if they had printed overrun again since it's uncommon and I could have gotten a few more... Anyway, this card is almost perfect for any green deck, or any deck that can splash green, all you need is a creature with 3 power and you've essentially got an overrun. Bigger creatures (Mossbridge Troll or Kalonian Behemoth anyone?) make it even better. 5/5 from me, situational but it ends up being good almost every time. Really the only you can play this and be a bad thing is if you just played it at the completely wrong time, and in that case it's your fault, not the card's.
P.S. weenie decks don't complain, 15 1/1s becoming 15 2/2s with trample is still 30 total damage, and that will put a dent in nearly anyone. Still not satisfied? Just Giant Growth one of them before you play it!

Wizard's changed overrun because in limited it was just to freaking powerful as an uncommon. And while it's relatively ease to bump a card down a rarity (act of treason, serra angel, protean hydra), its almost impossible to justify bumping a card UP a rarity, especially one as well known as overrun. So they made a new version, which will still have the same effect "MOST" of the time (barring token decks, but there are other options in standard), but will also appear less frequently, and have a lower chance of producing multiples in a deck.

with creatures like Leatherback Baloth and Garruk's Companion, this IS just as good as overrun. not meant for weenies and token deck though. it's meant for big monogreen baddies who need trample and a significant power boost for a finishing swing.

This card can easily be great in token decks, alot of you are forgetting that green has more cheap buffs than any other color. Primal bellow for example could easily turn a bunch of 1/1s into a bunch of 7/7s combined with Stampede.

I seriously wish that people would stop comparing this card to Overrun. They are 2 completely different cards for different decks. Love it! I totally get that Overrun is better, it obviously way more versatile, but this is for us casual multiplayer players. You have a beast deck or some ridiculous big, mean monster deck, this is the performance enhancing Overrun, the one that makes you bust out the calculator to find out how much you just swung for!

so basically, the way I see this card is that despite powercreep they decided overrun was overpowered so they made it rare so it wouldn't be so prevalent in limited.
after all the difference in effect is meaningless most of the time, sure in some situations one will be better than the other but for the most part they seem like they would both get the job done.
However, the flavor is beautiful. The art mimics the ability so perfectly.

There is a big difference with this version, even in weenie decks. Might of the Masses with a swarm out can be pretty hilarious.
Why are people complaining that this is "inferior" to Overrun? In most cases, it isn't; even in a weenie deck with a bunch of 1/1 creatures, the worst case scenario is you'll have a swarm of 2/2 creatures with Trample. Sure, Overrun is "better" in that case, but you've got plenty of options to boost Overwhelming Stampede, such as a single big creature like Khalni Hydra, Plated Slagwurm or even just boosting a creature with Giant Growth or Rancor beforehand. People who are bashing this card are probably bawwwwwwing for nothing more than nostalgic reasons.
Which, I don't know about you but a mana-ramp elf deck with a bunch of puny cards like Llanowar Elves, Elvish Visionary and Elvish Archdruid suddenly becomes a lot more scary when led by a Khalni Hydra and Overwhelming Stampede is slapped onto the field. I like overkill.

Wizards isn't saying ANYTHING about Overrun by printing this card. Anyone who reads Mark Rosewater's articles will know that the designers simply like to change things up from time to time. Every time a new core set is released, certain cards get 'rotated out' temporarily, to allow space for new cards, or the return of old ones. This makes the game more exiting by keeping you on your toes.
I like Overrun, but this spell is interesting too, because it is so green. Rather than have a relatively arbitrary +3/+3 effect, this spell relies on the power of your creatures to amplify an effect that benefits your creatures. What could be more green than that? It also helps you get much more out of staple core set cards like Giant Growth.
Overrun was good for its own reasons though. It was much simpler to understand. Not that Overwhelming Stampede is much of a headache, but Overrun is alot simpler to use.

The one thing I found interesting about this card was: 1. It's rare and 2. It costs 3GG rather than 2GGG...
Interesting... I don't expect this card to be too competitive though. If you have a big creature when you cast this, just don't be suprised when your biggie gets destroyed in response.
Overrun is slightly better than this only because of consitency (which is why I always facepalm whenever someone runs Garruk for his ultimate).

Looks great for decks with larger creatures, but for my Squirrel deck I think I stick with Overrun, since I don't have a creature with greater power than 2 in that deck. Of course, Squirrel Mob would sure enjoy the effect of Overwhelming Stampede, but ONLY if I have a bunch of other chattering "pe(s)ts" out there. Overrun, with a set increasement in strengh, is more my style.
However, Overwhelming Stampede would do great in my Wurm deck, where nearly no creature are at a lower power than 4...

In my deck with Khalni Hydra and Primalcrux, this card easily outclasses Overrun. I agree with Keiya's comment about this card being superior. In monogreen, this card has the same cc as Overrun and despite what people think, this still works with weenie rush and better than Overrun. If you're using a bunch of green tokens chances are the monster making them is stronger than 3/3 by the time a many of the tokens are out. Furthermore with that many tokens the Hydra won't even cost anything over 4 most of the time and you get a minimum +8/+8 boost. If this is being used in multi-color, one colorless instead of another green is already an advantage since its easier to cast.
I was able to get a Primalcrux to 64/64 with one of these while everything else got to at least 30/30. Tell me how that's worse than Overrun.

Completely broken. I don't see why you say it's not versatile enough. It's cheaper than Overrun and in green big creatures don't cost much. I mean, you get Obstinate Baloth for free on turn two if you're lucky enough to have a Ravenous Rats dropped on you; on turn four you play Garruk and his +1 ability. Use Garruks overrun the next turn, play this and voila. You have a +7/+7 AND a +3/+3 AND trample. That's at least one 14/14 creature with trample, and if you're not completely incompetent probably three, four other creatures. How is that not versatile enough? I swung my opponent from 20 to -132 because I had a Protean Hydra with Giant Growth and a ton of creatures to boot.
Yeah, it's casual, but heck!

And yes, it is better than overrun in my opinion, at least in my deck, because I have an elf deck with a scion of the wild. He gets up pretty high, and so its like 17 19/19 creatures and one 34/34 creature all with trample. So I see where people are coming from, but better than overrun, IMO. lol best combo I come out with- Protean Hydra, 4 x this card.
tap for as much mana for a turn for protean hydra, generally around 8. Wait a few turns and then when you get the mana (Either by using Lotus to build up the mana or by combining something that gives colorless mana like Everflowing chalice) play 1 first, and another, and another, and another. So lets have a look at what we got lol.
For sake of argument protean hydra is the highest creature of 8 power. the last one plays onto the stack first, so every creature gets +8/+8. The next one plays onto the stack, Protean hydra is 16/16 so every creature gets +16/+16 The next one plays onto the stack, Protean hydra is 32/32 so every creature gets +32/+32 and then the final touch, the first one you played, Protean hydra is now 64/64 so every creature gets +64/+64
lets see the total addon: 8+16+32+64 = 120, with protean hydra on 128.
Should be restricted lol, I broke many games using that combo.

This is much better than Overrun. In a monogreen deck, which will most likely have many elves to mana ramp and creatures like Leatherback Baloth who have at least 3 power, this already gives the same, If not more power than Overrun.
With all the mana you have available to you, It's easy to slap two Giant Growths on a 1/1 elf and give all your little elves +7/+7 and trample.
Soo... What if I had a Pathrazer of Ulamog out chillin', while I also had a Pyromancer Ascension out with 2 quest counters on it. . . and then I cast this?

Fantastic finisher. Green being green,, at it's finest. This card is definetly better then Overrun. No doubt. You're going to have a creature with more then 3 power out by then. And Overrun is not more versatile,, it's mana cost is a too green heavy to run it on more then a dual colored deck, if that. This could still run in a tricolored deck and be most likely more effective than Overrun.
I love Overrun, but that's why it's an uncommon and this is a rare.

In the first deck i loved 2 make stupid 0/1 Eldrazi spawns, and then completly turn the game around by using Titanic Ultimatum or overrun, but now, all i have to do for winning is popping might of the masses a few times and then use this... personal record: 20 0/1 eldrazi spawns with +40/+40 (BROKEN?!?!?!?!?) In the other deck i do kinda the same, just with carrioncall, then i play a few dark ritual, and then Putrefax, then i play overrun and BAMMM wins the game... Been reading the comments on here and I don't think a lot of people seem to understand that overrun did what this card doesn't do and vice versa. Overrun is better for decks with lots of small creatures, because none of your creatures were necessarily over 3/3 to begin with. Overrun was indeed actually over powered. As an example, you could turn 1: Forest, bird. Turn 2: plains, use cultivate or any type of ramping spell. Turn 3: play conquerors pledge, you now have 5, 1/1 tokens. Turn 4: Play overrun, swing for 20 damage. By contrast overwhelming stampede doesn't do this, and it wants you to have some other big giant non token creature in your deck to use with it. So, one of your cards that would have otherwise say put 7 tokens into play, is now a khalni hydra or some other big bruiser card which isn't what a token deck is about. All the things that improve token decks, such as spreading counters, and effects dependent on multiple creatures normally don't care about having only one larger creature. Now I see many of you saying two things, first is what if you pump something with giant growth, and second what if you use something like avenger of zendikar/protean hydra. It's true you can use a pump spell, but that means you're using up two spells to make the first one work, and nothing is stopping your opponent from bolting the one you try to pump up. If nothing else it's card disadvantage, you need two cards to make one effective. What happens if you only have your overwhelming stampede and not your pump spell for example. Secondly, if you are waiting to have 9 mana to make an 8/8 protean, or at least 7 for avenger of zendikar, by that point it's late game and it doesn't have the same surprise factor. This would be totally useless for eldrazi, because if you are swingining in with a 10/10 annihilator 4, it doesn't matter if it also has +10/10 and trample, the game is pretty much over already. What this card is really good for is that it makes regular green decks playing cards like obstinate baloth and bellowing wurm better. It just isn't nearly as effective for green or white weenie decks such as the gw tokens that was played during the lorwyn block. It's not better or worse, it's just different.

@Donovan_Fabian: Sounds like you're reaching. This card is better than Overrun the same way Primal Bellow/Might of the Masses is better than Giant Growth - not strictly better, but better in almost all situations.
It's not like it's hard to swing for >20 on turn 4 with this either. Turn 1: Elves, turn 2: Leatherback, turn 3: Kozilek's Predator, turn 4: Overwhelming Stampede. And that's one of many examples, since this card rewards having either more creatures OR stronger creatures. Versatility is what makes this card so much more appealing than Overrun - if you only have a couple creatures out, as long as one has decent power (3-4) you can throw down a Giant Growth and get the essential killing power you need. That's not card disadvantage any more than throwing down that extra creature a turn earlier is card disadvantage.

Im suprised to see that no one has posted the obvious combo of Omnath, Locus of Mana being built up over a few turns in a ramp deck. In a vintage deck I have used Rofellos, Llanowar Emissary with Instill Energy to mega-ramp the Omnath for a few turns. Add in token makers to make a large army, and then drop Overwhelming Stampede and roll in with tons of huge creatures.
example, you have 8 lands out...so with rofellos and instill you can add 24 mana a turn to your mana pool to pump the Omnath. after 4 turns, thats 96 mana, so the Omnath is a 97/97...so everything just got pumped 97/97 trample with using Overwhelming Stampede, even if you dont have many creatures out, its still a game over.
In standard its harder to mana-ramp as easily as the rofellos, but still do-able.

Does the +X/+X count as counters, If it does then Jeraga Warcaller would be the best creature to choose.
Example: You have 4 elves ( All are 1/1's) in play (+) Jeraga Warcaller he has five (5) +1/+1's counters on him, make all 4 elves 5/5's. (if this counts as conters ) play Overwhelming Stampede choose him as your creature giving ever one a +5/+5 as soon as those conters hit him, then all other elves get an additional +5/+5 on them. Now addther rest of the ability (trample) 1 elf is a 10/10w/ trample and the other 4 are 16/16 with trampe as well....... GAME OVER (mostly). But only if the +X/+X counts as counters......

Along the lines of what badmalloc said, this is more susceptible to removal than Overrun (or even Predatory Rampage). If they cast removal on your fatty in response, this might be reduced to a +1/+1 bonus.

So this is like giving your strongest creature berserk, and having the boost shared with all your creatures, and it effects toughness, and it does not require to sacrifice.
I think this card is well worth

when used correctly this card can allow you to swing for over 100 damage in a token deck just combo it up with big token like grove of the guardian or creature reliant card like crusader of odric.
I once had a mexican standoff with my token deck and my friend angel deck, we both have 11 angel token, he had sunblast angel and herald of war with 2 conjurer's closet with 50 lives
I on the other hand only have moonsilver spear and one white/green 8/8 elemental token (aside from the angel token). none of us dared to attack
I drew this card, then I buffed up my elemental token with selesnya charm making him a 10/10, then played overwhelming stampede, all my creature get +10/+10. (14 power x 11 angel token) + 20 from the elemental = 164 damage

Combos with Zektar Shrine Expedition. Just play any creatures on turns 1, 3, and 4, then pop the Shrine on turn 5, cast this, and swing for at least 35 damage, probably more.

In my experience using a green soulbond deck, this is easily better than overrun. This is not the fastest setup, but tends to be one of the most common for me. #1: Llanowar Elves #2: Wild Beastmaster #3: Druid's familiar with the Llanowar Elves #4: Wolfir Silverheart with the Wild Beastmaster #5: Overwhelming Stampede on the 8/8 Wolfir Silverheart. Then attack. All creatures get +8+8, so the now 13/13 Wild Beastmaster gives all other creatures +13/+13. Meaning for you gave all of your creatures +21+21 and trample. At which point you most likely win, though it's IS susceptible to fog and safe passage.

Overrun is better for token decks. Even if the token deck runs a fatty or two to make Overwhelming Stampede better, the opponent could just kill the fatty in response to Stampede resolving. Overwhelming Stampede is better for fatty decks where the majority of your creatures are at least Garruk's Companion/Leatherback Baloth-sized and is easier to splash.
If we were to branch out to other "overrun"-type spells, Bellowing Tanglewurm makes your creatures very hard to block and has a decent size itself, making it an ideal alternative to Overwhelming Stampede for the fatty deck, and Triumph of the Hordes is arguable better to run in token decks than Overrun, because you only need half the usual power to go lethal.
Use your imagination guys :) Playing unique decks is what makes Magic fun.

The big guy would need to be removed prior to resolution in order to prevent the big boost. That, fog effects and counters are the only responses worth mentioning. This card almost never disappoints. I would prefer it to Overrun if it weren't for the sweet classic border for the Tempest and Odyssey versions. 5/5

The thing is, I struggle to imagine a situation where this will win you a game that Overrun won't win you anyway.
Let's take CinderBurn's example, but replace his numbers with Overrun and do some maths.
With normal Overrun, your opponent is facing: 6/6 Mana Elves (+2 from the SoulBear, +3 from Overrun) 7/7 Druid's Familiar (+2 from the Bond, +3 from Overrun) 8/8 Beastmaster (+4 from the Wolf, +3 from Overrun) 11/11 Silverheart (+4 from the Bond, +3 from Overrun) All With Trample
Even without the +8/+8 from the Beastmaster on attack, that's 32 points of Trample Damage on Turn 5. With the +8/+8, that's 56 points. Yes, that's significantly less than with Overwhelming Stampede, but there's no realistic situation where that doesn't either kill your opponent or act as a one-sided board wipe, except for cases where Overwhelming Stampede wouldn't have fared better. You don't get bonus points for taking your opponent past 0 life. You get exactly the same points for taking them to 0 life.
And it's all too easy to think of a game where a Doomblade to your Baloth turns your "Overwhelming" mana elves into 2/2 tramplers.
Again, with CB's example, if I've already killed the Druid's Familiar and I kill the Silverheart in response to Overrun (and if I haven't killed them, what the heck have I even been *doing* with my turns?), I'm now facing a pair of 2/2 Tramplers, which get +2/+2 when they attack. 4/4's with Trample are good, but less so when they turn back into 1/1's next turn. If I can survive 8 points of damage (and again, what have I been doing with my turns if not putting myself in that position), I'm in good shape to stabilise. With Overrun, they become 4/4's that get +4/+4 when they attack. That's 16 points of damage off two creatures that I didn't consider the main threat a minute ago. In most cases, there will not be a next turn.
The only time this is better than Overrun is when you have one major (let's say 6/6) threat out, and you need your one shot to be completely lethal or you are dead. Eggs. Basket. Bounce Spell. If the 9/9 Trample wouldn't have killed them, the 12/12 Trample probably won't either. I know there are edge cases where this wins you a game that Overrun won't, but they're normally the ones where your opponent can't deal with your big threats effectively. Those aren't hard games to win.
I mean, this card is still good and appeals far more to me on a "Win More Big Less Often" level, but Overrun is 100 times more consistent, and when you'll win with this, you'd have won with Overrun anyway.

One example would be the pseudo-MTG send up in El Goonish Shive (The cards in it are all based on actual MTG cards with different names and in one place a slightly altered mechanic), in the example shown, Overrun simply wouldn't have won the game.

Again with the whining. Overrun can be better than this in some instances, and in others this one will be better. I'll actually use both in the same deck.
Of course, my tiny creature/token deck will still use Overrun, since the strongest they would ever really be is maybe a 3/3. It's not a definite improvement over Overrun, but it just suits different decks (and with the same mana cost, its not too big of a deal to run either over the other).
@Temple_Garden:
How on earth is not needing more to finish off your opponent a bad thing? I personally like seeing them go in the negatives, heh.
Maybe Wizards thought Overrun was too good? Just throwing that hypothesis out there.
*dun dun da dum*
they have trampl FEER THEM
At very least, it gives trample, and is equal to Overrun if you have a 3/X.
Just run cheap fatties.
P.S. weenie decks don't complain, 15 1/1s becoming 15 2/2s with trample is still 30 total damage, and that will put a dent in nearly anyone. Still not satisfied? Just Giant Growth one of them before you play it!
after all the difference in effect is meaningless most of the time, sure in some situations one will be better than the other but for the most part they seem like they would both get the job done.
However, the flavor is beautiful. The art mimics the ability so perfectly.
However, Overwhelming Stampede would do great in my Wurm deck, where nearly no creature are at a lower power than 4...
I was able to get a Primalcrux to 64/64 with one of these while everything else got to at least 30/30. Tell me how that's worse than Overrun.
Yeah, it's casual, but heck!
tap for as much mana for a turn for protean hydra, generally around 8.
The next one plays onto the stack, Protean hydra is 16/16 so every creature gets +16/+16
The next one plays onto the stack, Protean hydra is 32/32 so every creature gets +32/+32
and then the final touch, the first one you played, Protean hydra is now 64/64 so every creature gets +64/+64
lets see the total addon:
8+16+32+64 = 120, with protean hydra on 128.
Should be restricted lol, I broke many games using that combo.
With all the mana you have available to you, It's easy to slap two Giant Growths on a 1/1 elf and give all your little elves +7/+7 and trample.
Step 2: Cast Yavimaya Wurm.
Step 3: Cast Overwhelming Stampede. Swing with everything.
Step 4: Laugh.
44/44 With Annihilator 2 and Trample, everything else +44/+44 with trample!? WTF!?!?!?
I love Overrun, but that's why it's an uncommon and this is a rare.
Great card.
If everything goes to plan; Game Over for all opponents of Mono Green...
swing with my 6 main beaters all at +14/+14 and trample
Imagine: T1 Llanowar Elf, T2 Nest Invader, T3 Kozilek's Predator. Decent board position, but nothing too great, assuming of course it's not versus red and Pyroclasm/Slagstorm.
T4, Overwhelming Stampede = 3 spawns, Invader, and Predator each get +3/+3 and trample.
That's 20. GG.
example, you have 8 lands out...so with rofellos and instill you can add 24 mana a turn to your mana pool to pump the Omnath. after 4 turns, thats 96 mana, so the Omnath is a 97/97...so everything just got pumped 97/97 trample with using Overwhelming Stampede, even if you dont have many creatures out, its still a game over.
In standard its harder to mana-ramp as easily as the rofellos, but still do-able.
On a side note I'm glad this doesn't require targeting. The first thing I tend to do with my fatties is give them shroud.
Turn 1: I play Eladamri's Vineyard
Turn 2: I play Garruk Wildspeaker and Llanowar Elves using garruk's ability
Turn 3: I play Rampaging Baloths, THEN play a land, giving me a 4/4 baloth
Turn 4: I play Pelakka Wurm.
Turn 5: I use Garruk's final, then play Overwhelming Stampede. My biggest creature is a 10/10 pelakka wurm, so all my creatures get a total of +13/+13 (with garruk's ability). And they all have trample.
I bring my opponent down to -24 life in one turn. I would've hurt them even harder if they didn't have a Phantom Nomad, which screws over trample.
Turn 2: Forest, Level up Joraga Treespeaker and tap to play Nest Invader.
Turn 3: Forest, Garruk's Packleader sacrificing the Eldrazi token. Then play Scythe Tiger.
Turn 4: Forest, Overwhelming Stampede and attack for 21.
OR
Turn 3: Forest, Play Thrun and Scythe Tiger.
Turn 4: Forest, Overwhelming Stampede and attack for 25. Providing that your opponent does have a kill spell, they'll most likely target your nest invader, denying you of 6 damage. If your opponent doesn't block this will leave him at 1.
Your opponent's response? I concede.
played this, giving each of my creatures +20/+20 and trample. my primeval alone, after attacking was a 42/42 trample.
this compared to overrun is far better if you have a creature that has more than 3 power. otherwise overrun is better, but my green deck has plenty of fatties to power this
Turn 2: Forest -> Elvish Archdruid
Turn 3: Forest -> Llanowar Elves + Dramatic Entrance into Kalonian Behemoth
Turn 4: Forest -> Overwhelming Stampede and swing for 40 trample damage.
Opponent: Okay, I'll hit you with my Slash Panther which has a Whispersilk Cloak AGAIN. You're at 5 life.
Me: Fine. (Plays Grave Titan.)
Opponent: I'll hit you for 4 more. You're at 1 life.
Me: Crud. (Draws card.) Overwhelming Stampede. All my guys get +6/+6 and trample. Game.
Talk about close calls. This card is a game-winner.
I think this card is well worth
