Good move to replace craw wurm with this.

Strictly better than Craw Wurm.

There is no reason M11 needs 3 mediocre wurms, maybe just 1 or 2, but not 3. Pelakka Wurm has just spoiled the rest of the wurms for us.

Pelakka Wurm has spoiled more than just WURMS for me... I HAD that match...

It took them way to long to reprint this.
I miss the old flavor text though.

Common trampler. Limited loves you Pelakka.

@Majinara- Because, maybe, I don't know, you didn't pull one? It's still a pretty solid limited bomb, and that's more than you can say for many cards.

I'm glad they brought back this card. I felt sick every time I had to take a craw wurm. With this, I can probably live with myself.

The art is absolutely incredible. A lot of Magic creatures are supposed to be big but just don't look it. Stuff like Woolly Thoctar- by its stats it should be freaking gigantic but we just can't see it. This, however, looks not only absolutely huge, but also more like a real animal than many other Magical monsters. I can believe this exists. Five stars just for the picture.

Why is this in the same set as primeval titan? Why would you ever play this instead of the titan? One half star for beeing totally dead in this set.

@sir_dwar: yes it's not bad in limited. Bomb? Dunno. But solid. But "limited" is always a good excuse for otherwise bad cards imho. And "play this instead of primeval titan because you didn't pull a titan" is exactly what I was talking about. Any M11 pack you get with a yavimaya wurm in it is basically a pack with one card less, if you own a primeval titan, since the titan renders the wurm 100% obsolete.

Thank goodness Craw Wurm is gone, it was just plain bad. Trample = good

The trample is pretty good and he can hold his own he helped me beat my cousin one time, I put in him my common and uncommon only deck and he does very well 3/5 stars.

This was one of my first cards, and its depressing that I have no reason to play it. I'll make a wurm tribal deck or something I guess...

Majinara, Primeval Titan is a Mythic, meaning it's extremely rare to find in a booster pack and extremely expensive to buy by itself. Yavimaya Wurm is a Common, meaning it's very easy to find and very cheap to buy if you don't want to buy packs.

What's the difference between them? 2 Toughness and an ability that is too powerful to be on anything but a Mythic, maybe a Legendary Rare. Quit whining and start thinking about why WotC bothered to make these damned cards with different rarities.

Here's a thought for all you people who say that this is obsolete due to Primeval Titan. Primeval Titan is a Mythic Rare, harder to find this is a common, which is COMMON. Plus it's big and BIG IS GOOD and since the max of anyhting you can have is 4 this provides more chunky creatures to use. Jeez. Some people just don't use their heads.

@Majinara

And every pack with Serra Angel basically has one less card if you own a Baneslayer Angel. But guess who doesn't own Baneslayer Angel or Primeval Titan: beginners and limited players. It's a core set, it's meant to have cards that appeal to different groups of players. Just because you have four Primeval Titans doesn't mean everyone does.

I hope one of these days you achieve that goal. I look forward to the day they make a wurm lord

On constructed: No.
On limited: This guy set the ball rolling for the printing of Alpha Tyrranax, and personally, I'm happy that both are around. Yavimaya Wurm has been around for ages and it's about time that Craw Wurm got replaced. Pick up this guy seventh-pick onward.

Not strictly better than Craw Wurm. Muraganda Petroglyphs.

I'm glad they're slowly powercreeping the base set up with the rest of the sets. There's no excuse to keep reprinting commons with no purpose when they keep printing overpowered cards with the excuse "oh but it's mythic rare!"

Absolutely irrelevant. There's no reason for Wurmcoil Engine to have the same CMC and be vastly different in power, except that this card costs nothing and a tournament deck full of mythic rares costs $200.

So while this isn't ideal, it's at least a step in the right direction.

@majinara:
For the record, getting a card that is "Strictly better(Actually a meaningless concept)" than another card doesn't make either card worthless.
Not only does it allow you to have multiple copies of an "equivalent" card in the same deck if you're full of copies, but you can trade it out for something you want more, OR, it can free up your mythic to trade for a pile cards that aren't "strictly better," but ultimately more useful to you overall.
Of course, if you don't want to trade, and you already have way more commons than you even want, you should stick to buying singles. It would degrade the game to have every creature at mythic quality, because they're not intended to be played by everyone, all the time. Some variation in creature quality keeps drawing packs interesting, and it makes trading more enjoyable and productive.
There is simply no way to make any card 100% obsolete, just because everyone doesn't have the money to throw at the ultimate cards in existence. Somewhere, someone has the "worse" card, not where they would have gotten the "strictly better" one, but instead of a different card that they didn't want as much, not because it's bad, but because it's not what they're using.

tl;dr:
Worse versions let you run extra copies.
They can trade if you don't want them, to someone who understands that it still has some amount of value.
Having all creatures be mythic-quality would be terrible, and demean the varying values in cards we have now.
Having all creatures be common-quality would be boring.
We don't all have the money for the best cards, and there are literally not enough of them for everybody who wants one to have one.
The game is more fun, more varied, and more exciting to play, trade, and buy in packs because of the varying "power levels."

NO U

Anyway, impressive art and a solid card. I would be glad to pick one out of a pack.

Trades with Yavimaya Ants, which makes me question how good this card really is.

Good card, and for once relatively easy to cast...trample always makes it easier to shake off those extra life points...although since it is a wurm shouldnt it be along the lines of "Squish, or Slither Over"? XD

Hate this art. Hate all arts of this. A lot.

Worm- like ugly little snakes that are always crawling in dirt.

Wurm- like big, flightless Drakes

Wyrm- Wicked monsters, Dragons that at least don't have the power of fire. Actually pretty cool.

Yavimaya Wurm is supposed to look like it's phylogenically related to Craw Wurm, not to Worm Harvest. At least the older art is better, but it *only* looks as good as a newer Craw Wurm, and for trample we should get some art as great as an Alpha Craw.

@Sarcasm The flavor text means that in most places, this would be considered a colossal creature. But in the forest of Yavimaya, where everything is so big and colossal, his size is commonplace and normal.
