I have a hunch that after Zendikar (and Valakut along with it) rotates, we're going to learn which titan is truly the most powerful... this guy.

@ Troutz

I agree. Cemetery Reaper alone makes me excited for good ole Grave Titan's return.

who needs deathtouch when you're a 6/6

fear would have been better but would've made him too powerful

Pulled one of these on during the Pre-Release. I never really liked Black. Now I do.

I don't know how it feels to load a cartoonishly large bazooka with zombies and fire it at someone. But I do know how it feels to play a Grave Titan. I suspect they're similar.

I think Grave Titan is the best one out of all the Titans because he does not need you have rare lands to make it great

Between this guy, Cemetery Reaper, and Zombie Infestation, We're looking at a butt-ton of 2/2 zombie creature tokens. Might I suggest somebody at wizards holler to the boys illustrating the walking dead to get some awesome and creative tokens to spare some redundancy!

When the titans were released, me and my friends were talking about them and how cool they were. Then when the black one came up in conversation we were trying to recall what the name of this titan was. None of us remembered and as a result we just called it Black Titan. Then all of a sudden one of my other friends had to comment on the name of this card.
"Black Titan? Sounds like the name of a black porn star."
Till this day we still joke about it.

"Wanna see my Black Titan?"

Each of the titans in the cycle, excluding Frost Titan, has a familiar domain ability.
I wouldn't be surprised if deathtouch was added at the last second on this guy, when some one noticed that "{B}: Regenerate" was too good on him!

in my opinion this is the best of the titan cycle. people seem to prefer primeval titan but just wait til Valakut rotates. then it'll be all about this guy

I've never pulled this card and lost. Why it would get anything less than 5 stars is beyond me.

I pretty much despise black and never play it outside of limited, but this dude is so freakin good. Cast a grave titan and you just went up three cards, and that's just the beginning. Deathtouch provides even more advantage...this is just sick, and if the primeval titan didn't interact so well with valukut it would easily be the best titan. 5/5 for sure

Played an Emperor game the other day. I played Pandemonium, then my Emperor threw down this guy. Instant 10 damage to the opposing general. Then 4 more every turn. Add to that the combat damage he and his zombie buddies were throwing out (since our other general was dead), and the game didn't last much longer.

A lethal giant, that brings an army with him. How the heck is he not full 5 stars?

For me he is better than Primeval Titan, coz he give you tokens, even 2/2 and equiped with gorgon flail makes mini killer, better than 20 lands on the battlefield (except Garruk, Primal Hunter, who makes lands in end game more usefull).

Best of the broken Titans. Although it's superiority is out of the color pie. Questionable to combine best creatures and best creature removal in the same single color.

I HATE this thing! 6 mana is surprisingly low, and it is nearly impossible to play around with nonblack/blue decks! arrggh, 5/5

Why isn't this a Zombie? Victim of Night really shouldn't work on a Grave Titan.

Guys, he's not a zombie because;

A) All of the other titans in the cycle are just Giants, and
B) He's ridiculously good enough as it is without needing tribal support. If you're playing a zombie deck and this guy manages to stick to the board, you've probably won anyway.

if there is a grave titan on field, and someone plays another, does the first one's battlefield entry ability trigger?
TheShadow344
★★★★☆ (4.5/5.0) (3 votes)
The only non-Zombie in my mono-black Zombie deck. As much as it would be great if he were a zombie too, he's already pretty powerful... Chances are decent that I have an Undead Warchief or Death Baron on the battlefield so the tokens that come in are 4/3 or 3/3 with deathtouch.

In Horde magic he's insane since horde creatures have haste... Four 2/2 Zombie tokens! If he drops early in the game, you've almost certainly lost because there is usually no way to recover in time.

5/5

It's a total of 3 bodies and 10 power for 6 with an inherent protection from some removal cards. That should showcase to you why the Titan cycle is both really good and also really bad for the game.

Would the Grave Titan promo from the MTG 2012 game for consoles and Steam be legal for Standard as of March 2012?

I started running four of these guys in my zombie token deck, if you think one of these guys are fun, wait till you get 2-3 out. Also cemetery reaper for more, meaner zombies

You know what's really, really great with the Titans?

Concerted Effort. I run that and 3 Titans in Kaalia EDH along with the 2-mana Knights that have Protection...and let me tell you, you do not want to be on the wrong side of any "Akroma, Titan of Wrath" xD
Deathtouch is not spreadable without Cairn Wanderer, and I confess to hating changelings. I opt instead for paying the mana into Vault of the Archangel. It's not Spikey, but I still like it. :)
Sword of Vengeance is one of THE best artifacts to Stoneforge Mystic for. Things get somewhat nasty pretty quickly! xD

And of course, the deck STILL has its healthy share of Demons, Dragons, and Angels...I attract a lot of Wrath of Gods :p Which is why I also run Elspeth, Knight Errant and Mikaeus, the Unhallowed. Because...yeah...

I added two of these to my old Necro deck. 4 x dark rituals, 4 x demonic consultations... it's real easy to get him out on turn 2. 4 at the latest.

turn 1: Swamp, Demonic Consultation for either ritual or titan.
turn 2: Swamp, Dark Ritual, Dark Ritual, Grave titan.

I personally am against using cheap ass cards like titans or baneslayer

soooooooo....i see no references to Conjurer's Closet...so here i go.

i can't think of many etb/needs-vigilance cards that could better use the closet in standard...maybe Geralf's Mindcrusher in a mill deck?

-add obligatory Doubling Season reference here-

6/6? Check
Deathtouch? Check
Makes zombies? Check
Three reasons for me to swing with him every turn? CHECK

Then Frost Titan comes along and ruins everything.

20 points of power and toughness for 6 mana? Plus deathtouch? Plus token generation? And some people still say power creep is a myth..

5 stars though.

The best titan in my opinion. Primeval is just "the best" because lands are Overpowered... If it was basic lands, he wouldn't be so good.

@Arachibutyrophobia Yeah, it seems kind of redundant unless your opponent has some giant creature out already... but if you're playing black, you should likely already have a way to deal with one of those anyway. Now, if this guy had Trample...

I was in a long multiplayer EDH/Planechase game with a few friends. One opponent dropped one of these, and got a good chance to enjoy it for a few turns. Then the plane changed to Selesnya Loft Gardens.

Then I drew and played a kicked Rite of Replication.

The 5 Titan tokens became 10, resulting in 20 zombie tokens, which became 40.

The following turn, I swung for the win...only to get hit by an Aetherize.

Sure, I still won with the additional 40 zombies that I got from the attack trigger. But it just didn't feel right.

I remember when the titans were first spoiled and everyone was raving over this titan as being the best for standard. As it turns out, its primary function is just to be a beater. Green gave ramp/tutoring, red gave removal, blue gave pseudo-removal. White was the wildcard, dependent on the deck being built around it, but it could certainly fetch powerful cards. While the other 4 usually couldn't beat face as well as grave titan on an empty board, they gave extra utility as well.

He really should have been a Zombie, and I'm not just saying that because I would run like a playset in my Zombie deck. I mean, how the heck do you walk around with Zombies falling out of your gut and you NOT die eventually from it?

Put a Loxodon Warhammer on this card, then come back and tell me that Deathtouch is an empty ability.

Actually, the Deathtouch is very relevant.. in Legacy. "Legacy?!" you ask? Nic Fit often runs this guy because of the massive board presence he creates; and he's excellent against SneakShow. They can't block him or they lose their fat; they can't make you sac many permanents because you keep getting free zombies, and you swing for 10 the turn he comes down; making just about any amount of clock relevant.

So yes, trading with a 15/15 hexproof flying annihilator 6 is a good reason to have deathtouch IMO; let alone all the casual giant beaters you'll find. Even better? the Casual guys I speak of sometimes don't have trample, or even if they do, you can block with the zombies preventing 4+ damage.

Love it, but deathtouch honestly feels wasted since a 6/6 trades with most things anyway.

All these comments be like, "OMG HE'D BE SO GOOD IF HE WAS UNBLOCKABLE AND COULD RESURRECT HIMSELF FOR FOUR MANA HE'D BE SO OVERPOWERED AND BANNED IN EVERY FORMAT"

Well, no one said that, but everyone's thinking it.

Two words, Nim Deathmantle.
