Simply awesome while the likes of Puresteel Paladin, Grand Architect, and Brass Squire are still in Standard. After that...eh, still awesome, but very slow. I'll be playing it while I can for cheap!

I heard this was to be the promo at the pre-release..... Decent card.A bit slow, but it'' s at least playable in any deck you want as opposed to the dark ascension promo, where you NEED to have humans in your deck to play it.

Simply THE BEST card for Avacyn Restored limited. There is no card pool, be it in draft or in sealed, in which this does not automatically make your main deck. It can be played regardless of what else is in your deck, thanks to being colorless, but most importantly - it fuels itself. With so little removal available in this limited format, it's very difficult to stop Avacyn's signature weapon from taking over the game. Every attack you make with the spear, even if it's a suicide run, gives you a 4/4 flying creature (to which, conveniently, you can then equip the spear, and then you have a 4-power first strike creature untapped and ready to defend).

Great for combination with Soulbond ability. A 4/4 angel token with flying is pretty good on it's own, but they're also great for pairing. A lone unpaired creature with Soulbond equiped with this can pair to the angel token as soon as it attacks, and some of those effects are really nice on a 4/4 with flying.

Essentially what The_Trendkill said. Played it in the prerelease and it took me from a losing position to a winning position in one attack, twice no less. It's simply 'cause you get a 4/4 flyer for basically nothing. Gonna Righteous Blow my suicide 1/1? That's fine, I got a 4/4 ready to attack next turn. It was the star player of my deck in the first two rounds.

Even if they can kill the creature this is equipped to, it drops an angel you can equip it to next turn. And the next turn. And the next turn.

So... double strike = 2 angels. Right?

Comparing this to Tatsumasa, I can safely say that this card is EDH NUTS. Tatsumasa is a great card for a lot of EDH decks, so lets look at it in comparison:

Tatsumasa's Converted Mana Cost: 6
Moonsilver's Converted Mana Cost: 4

Tatsumasa's Equip: 3
Moonsilver's Equip: 4

Tatsumasa's Effect:

Equipped creature gets +5/+5.

6, Exile Tatsumasa, the Dragon's Fang: Put a 5/5 blue Dragon Spirit creature token with flying onto the battlefield. Return Tatsumasa to the battlefield under its owner's control when that token dies.

Moonsilver's Effect:

Equipped creature has first strike.

Whenever equipped creature attacks, put a 4/4 white Angel creature token with flying onto the battlefield.

Here we can see some of the differences between these similar cards. Tatsumasa only makes one token (which you have to pay a lot of mana for, but it's a bigger token, and it makes whoever its equipped to huge. Unfortunately, it only makes one token, and then it unequips. With Moonsilver Spear however, we don't make our dude huge, but we do give it a very strong keyword ability, and it makes multiple tokens for a lot less mana.

Its kinda sad seeing people say "USE ON GEIST OF SAINT TRAFT, HURR!", when there are so many other uses even in Standard Magic. This card is going to be a huge factor in the makings of some decks in Standard in the following weeks, especially with this cool new card, Tandem Lookout, which will give blue control decks some backbone earlier on in the game to hit in with and increase their card advantage. This card is going to see a lot of use, and I'd suggest getting them. They were prerelease promos, and I have to tell you, NOBODY wanted to get rid of them. We have a real gem on our hands with this one.

I'm a fan of double up on effects. I really like this in War Cry decks. You want to swing in those kinds of decks anyway, might as well get some mileage out of those swings not to mention that first strike is good but godly with War Cry.

Also, this + Angel's Tomb/Halcyon Glaze + Warstorm Surge = nuts. Swing with your critter and then drop a 3/3 & 4/4 or two 4/4s onto the field for an (nearly) unavoidable 7-8 damage. Its a kind of expensive combo to put together but if you manage to resolve it your opponent is pretty much dead.

@ joeah100
No. Doublestrike causes the attacking creature to deal damage twice -- it's still only attacking once.

I had two games in one match on Sunday where both my opponent and I got out the moonsilver spear on to the battlefield at the same time. An angel slugfest ensued.

Just like everybody else says, this card is absolutely backbreaking in limited. Although I did have one person cast natural end on it, but only after I had already made an angel token. Rode that angel token to victory.

@JOEAH100, No. you get an angel when you announce the creature as the attacker. If you somehow manage to get another attack phase like with relentless assault you would get another. IF it said when "does damage to a player" then yes, you'd get 2 if the creature had double strike.

It's OK. not great, but in a Geist deck, or Kemba, deck it would be alright. At 4 play and equip it's a little pricey.

There's something terribly aggravating about blocking a fodder creature equipped with this, seeing that creature die, and then having to deal with a 4/4 flying first strike angel the next turn.

And the next turn.

And the next turn.

Got both this and Avacyn at the prerelease this past weekend. 'Twas a good day and definitely took home my share of packs.

Stupid inifinite combo (Modern legal) time --

This + any unblocked creature + Breath of Fury + lightning greaves + Puresteel Paladin + a third artifact to give you metalcraft

Good God (insert creator of your choice), Avacyn's ***(marital aid that requires electricity) is going to rape (have nonconsensual sex with) everyone.

You just can't tell with the censor anymore.

i pulled TWO of these at the prerelease. in one very slow game i managed to attach it to avacyn ( yeah i pulled her too) and had out an angels tomb. needless to say i won that and every other game i played where i got this out. this card is insane and turns ypur creatures into mini geist of saint trafts. gotta love it

Moonsilver Spear, Tatsumasa the Dragon's Fang, now we just need a demon token equipment to complete the set for Kaalia.

Useless in Constructed, unbalanced and frustrating to play against in AVR Limited. A definite mistake by R&D.

Radiant, Archangel with first strike and a power up every time she attacks? Sounds good to me.

I agree jstorie. This card is far too good for limited. Just what the hell do you do if your opponent lands one? I've only ever won one game in which it was dropped against me. I was B/W (no artifact removal) and it took 3 perfect top decks to get the job done, and I would have been dead next turn if that hadn't happened. Have had it in 2 drafts, and have yet to lose a game when I've dropped it.

Best card in the set for limited. First pick over everything.

Besides being one of the best cards for ANY limited situation, this card isn't dead in constructed either. I run one or two Moonsilver Spears in my RWU deck that controls the board with burn and wipes for the first few turns of the game, then use Moorland Haunt to exile a Snapcaster Mage at end of my opponent's turn. Equip and swing for 1 and a 4/4 untapped flying angel. At this point, unless they can Smelt or Oblivion Ring the spear Angel+Spear WILL win the game in three turns (4 + 8 + 12 = 24).

The turn you play it you essentially timewalk yourself, and if you're playing against control this isn't going to be a good thing, particularly if they run Negate. Then again, a lot of people don't see what's coming and let it hit the field...only to furiously hate it out when it comes time to sideboard. I wish its equip cost was (3), so you could play a 2 cost spell on turn 5, but considering what it does for the game-state in just one swing (let along two or more) I'd say its powerful enough for inclusion in many constructed level decks.

Very strong in budget constructed, though you have to spend a turn just to cast it.

Best with Mana rampers like Crypt Ghast tap two swamps to play, 2 to equip? o_O One of the coolest games I've played was White Weenie and this vs Geist of Saint Traft, Path to Exile and Eijango Castle... dramatic game.. grrr

just imagine the chaos it would cause to give this thing to Liliana's Reaver two creatures tokens each time it connects, one if it doesn't, and triple card advantage with life loss....

Oh the possibilities ... (SFX: evil cackling laughter)

This may create a "white angel" token, but this is a good card for a mono green, mana ramping deck. Just attach this to one of my Predator Ooze's, and send it off! Definitely a decent side strategy if I'm not getting my Tooth and Nail, or Garruk, Caller of Beasts fast enough. I only have one of these, so it's easy to work into the deck.

This is also an excellent add in for my Numot the Devastator EDH deck. RWU deck. It's full of dragons, and angels already, so this just fits the theme nicely, lol. (I call this my 9/11 deck.)
