This is the most boring mythic rare ever printed. It's a vanilla flier. I find it about as exciting as Indomitable Ancients without Doran, the Siege Tower. Even if it was an unconditional 12/12 flier, I still don't think it would see standard play, at least not while Avenger of Zendikar is an option.
I like. It's certainly a great addition to the dragon clan. In a dedicated casual dragon deck, he's good.
This guy might even be an ok addition to a burn deck as a 1 of end game, though if you were going that route, Molten-steel Dragon is probably a better option.

The problem with this card? There's another mythic rare in the same set called Inferno Titan. The Titan impacts the board immediately once played and has the potential to generate card advatage as the game goes on. The Hellkite just attacks and... no, that's it. The Titan seems a lot more powerful, and more importantly, a lot more interesting.
No, Furyborn Hellkite is not vanilla; it's not even french vanilla. There isn't a term (to my knowledge) that describes a creature with two or more keyword abilities. Still, even given it's two abilities, it does nothing outside of one-on-one combat. I think the word some other posters were looking for to describe it is "boring". It's not terrible, but it just doesn't deserve mention next to the other big red dude in the set.

The card itself isn't terrible, but a mythic rare definitely deserves more than a big number next to a keyword. All in all it's just another seven mana kill-this-or-I-win creature, and it's not even the best one in the set.
This guy was part of my Prerelease War Story, from the finals:
- My opponent drops Rune-Scarred Demon and looks for a card in his deck (presumably this one) and passes the turn. - I pass my turn, leaving my lands and my 2/2 hexproof flyer untapped. - He shoots me with the new Goblin Facepuncher (Goblin Fireslinger), drops Furyborn, swings with his Demon and passes the turn. - I Turn to Frog his Demon, block and kill it, untap and Mind Control his Dragon.
- He looks really sad and starts picking up his cards.

Would Haste had broken him? I mean you have two choices for Bloodthirst, combat damage or noncombat damage. Haste would only work under one of those. And provided you don't have a pyromancer or something, it would make him cost even more to get a spell out there to Bloodthirst him.
My version would have made you think a bit before using him. Do you want a 6/6 Haster? Can you squeeze that damage though for pre-combat Bloodthirst? Or would a 12/12 flying blocker suffice until next turn? Judging by the rating on my comment before this edit, Red players don't like the idea of thinking. -_-
I'm not calling him Vanilla, I understand the difference. I'm just saying they missed and opportunity here. Mythic should be game changers when they're put out. Boring, boring, boring. Why Bloodthirst as the keyword they bring to the coreset? Scry was great. Additionally, there are so many more interesting keywords they've introduced over the years that they could have brought to the coreset that actually do something other than boost power and toughness.

@Endomarru - Say a turn 4 Hellkite...4 Lightning Bolts, 1 Shock (or whatever the standard 'one mana, two damage' red spell is nowadays) equals 14 more counters on the 'kite the next turn, swing for 20. Yeah, that's 'basically the same'...

This card is just plain amazing. Don't even consider Rage Reflection with this. Alright, consider it and by all means, USE IT!
Fantastic artwork. And yeah. This card is super scary. Even if he gets Dommbladed or something, your opponent is going to HAVE to get rid of this guy if he's bloodthirsted (you shouldn't be casting him if you can't), and he's going to HAVE to use spot removal (minus cards won't do much good lol). probably freeing you up early to cast something else scary. I love cards like this that attract so much attention in a duel. Your opponent might have other ways to deal with this guy, but a 12/12 flyer just looks too indimidating not to deal with immediately. And while all his guns go to this guy, you're holding onto your REAL winner.
The only tiny drawback is the 3 red in the casting cost - makes it a bit harder to cast exactly when needed in a Karthus Commander deck, but hey, it's still a fun card. A 12/12 flyer for 4RRR is not to be laughed at.

I think I can shed some light on why people don't like this. There are two kinds of magic players (that we'll be discussing anyways):
The magic player that simply likes to have fun with awesome cards. They play at home with their friends using the awesome stuff they pull from packs to make decks. They don't care whether they win or lose, it's all about the fun of the game, and playing their favorite cards.
Then, there's the darker side of magic.
The magic player that plays to win, and nothing else. If they're not winning, they're not having fun. They spend endless hours at home putting together combo pieces to win at the tournament, and if they're not doing that, then they're looking up someone else's deck on the internet. They play a format called standard, where it's basically a 5 turn deathrace. They don't concern themselves with cards over 6CMC because if they haven't beaten you by turn 6, they're mad at their deck.
The fact of the matter is, for as long as standard is as fast as it is, cards like this will never see tournament play. I for one love this bad-boy, because at home we're pretty casual. That doesn't mean I don't have decks that can't hold their own against those egg-heads, but I love magic for the amazing card art and the close games that have your heart pounding. It's a lot of fun, and if you're not having fun, then you shouldn't be playing.
This is one of the best mythics I've ever seen. Just what a mythic should be, really. Not overly powerful, and very flavorful. Reminds me of Lorthos, the Tidemaker in that sense. 5/5.
@volsak I agree wholly on that bro. But in my opinion I'd run that in a R/G deck. Should things play out by that turn four or five you'd have an answer to things like Mind Control and Act Of Treason. Couple that red with Trolls in green and a few copies of Asceticism and plenty of Mana rampage. Just for that assured win unless they don't already have an answer. But then again that's just how I play.

Funnily enough, I don't like it. There have been some limited environments over the years where this guy would have been an auto-include and a genuine bomb, but M12 isn't really the place. I've pulled him twice now, once in a GR deck, the other in a BR deck (which I ended up winning the draft with) - *and I didn't play him ONCE*. He's just too slow for the format, and even when you do get him out, anything with flying or reach can just chump him - that's exactly why Carnage Wurm is a better finisher, as he can't be chumped effectively.
If you managed to draft some sweet sort of control deck you might be able to include him, but in most decks you won't get enough support. Just think about the color match ups - in M12, WR, BR and UR are all aggressive color combinations. GR can be a little more defensive, but the red element makes it more aggressive than it might otherwise be.
In standard, it again is too slow, and offers no card advantage - why would you play this guy when the Titans are dynamite finishers and come out early?
In casual though, he should be fine - still, he's a french vanilla, and dies to a lot of removal. There are much better dragons.

This card is, for me, the old "Frosted Mini-Wheats" commerical...
The Spike in me says, "This dies to removal, is foiled by bounce/mind-control effects, and probably needs Geosurge to be a relevant part of my game before it's over--which risks causing me card-disadvantge. At least if it had haste, I might get one swing with it in! I'll see if I can find a gullible friend who will let me trade this with some crap rares and uncommons for a titan!"
The Timmy in me says, "12/12 flyer for ! Awesome! Shut up, Spike, before you have to call in sick to the office tomorrow explaining that a 12-year-old gave you a concussion and broken ribs!"
Seriously, under the theory that Mythics are supposed to go "Thud!" when they hit the table, this DEFINITELY fits the bill. 3-3.5/5 for playability. If you have other removal bait in your deck (and if you don't, why not?), this might be playable. Just don't put it in a traditional bloodthirst deck that's designed for traditional RDW-type tempo and mana curve. If you run even two of these, Fling should be a four-of in your deck.

I love it for how cute he is. And yes for a 6/6 possibly a 12/12 flyer he is cute concidering his competition is the Titans as for Magic's utility pagent. This will forever be my Pet Dragon guys. He and Steel Hellkite are best of Friends, oh and for you guys who don't think like this, play with Sarkhan the Mad out with this guy. Lets just say you won the game without ever using him to attack in the first place.
This card is just mediocre. It dies to pretty much all black removal Doom Blade, Go For the Throat, etc. Also bloodthirst wants to win early through aggression not drop huge fatties. He has not enough power. He can be chumped to no end, Trample, haste or 1st strike would greatly improve him. Also Inferno titan is just better for 1 mana less.

@ StreamHopper Well put, my friend. I definitely belong to the first class of Magic Players. My friends and I met in college with a mutual love of Yu-Gi-Oh, and over the last year, it translated to Magic, but our feelings for how we played it remained the same. We played a few days a week for 2-7 hours each time, sometimes just two people, other times as many as 8 people in a match. Still, we always played for fun, none of us had unbeatable decks that without-doubt killed everyone in 6 turns. Between us, there's probably about 50 decks, some fun and casual, composed of the only cards a person has, others absurd (one of my friends has a deck with only 4 copies of one creature and nearly every Planeswalker in the game); but none of our decks are unbeatable or kill too quickly for us to enjoy it. Because that's the entire purpose of the game, to have fun. If you're confusing winning in Magic for winning in life, you clearly have issues. Seriously, if you're only going to use a handful of cards in an instant-win combo, why bother playing a game with over 10,000 cards?
Wow. I simply must have this card. With my Scepter of Empires, it is high likely that I will be able to summon this creature with 12/12 every time.

In response to Darthparralax's unnecessary yet unnavoidable Kaalia comment: and how the hell, my good sir, are you planning to trigger this guy's Bloodthirst before combat? Reserving a spot on your already-tight decklist (I suppose it's tight, as you've Kaalia-commented on almost every RWB card here) for Raid Bombardment?
Commenting the card: Timmy's pet for M12. Definetly could have had haste, but as of now its biggest problem is I haven't opened any in my M12 boosters. R&D decided M13's Mythic Dragon would be Baneslayer Dragon (Thundermaw Hellkite), who, in order of causes>consequences, has haste, is attractive for standard, and costs ten times as much money as Furyborn.
Mind you, you also have 7 mana which could be dumped in a handful of other small-card combos. Pick and choose, really.

This card is only good if it has some sort or protection. Having a creature for seven mana, that can only be in a red deck, that has no sort of protection is very dicey.
People often say that terra stomper is worthless as a card due to "high mana cost" (in green?) and that it is way too easy to remove.
And I kinda feel the same way about this one. I love dragons, and ever since I started to play magic, I have wanted to create a functional dragon deck. This guy, however, has never seen any real play for me; I own four of them and none of them in a deck. Why? Cause each time it hit the field there was a doom blade, plummit, oblivion ring or counterspell waiting. I think I've attacked with this one maybe 2 - 3 times ever. The rest of the time he's been in my library, hand or graveyard. And compared to the Stomper he has no protection.

So, we Gutshot, the opponent (1 damage) Geosurge into Furyborn Hellkite, use Crimson Mage to give him haste, Assault Strobe the Hellkite and swing for 24.
That would not work. In order to get the mana from Pyretic Ritual, it needs to resolve. Once it resolves, it's no longer on the stack to copy with Reverberate.

In casual though, he should be fine - still, he's a french vanilla, and dies to a lot of removal. There are much better dragons.
The Timmy in me says, "12/12 flyer for
Seriously, under the theory that Mythics are supposed to go "Thud!" when they hit the table, this DEFINITELY fits the bill.
Timmy: Jee willikards ain't he somethin Mr. Narrator sir?
Narrator: That he is Timmy. Lets take a closer.....
(Breaths Fire all over Narrator's face)
Narrator: Look....
All and all, this is probably the only de***ion of what Timmy is feeling when he sees this card. A big flying pet that just gets bigger if you did something before you bring it out.
T1: Mountain, Goblin Fireslinger
T2: Mountain, ping opponent, Infernal Plunge > Geosurge > 12/12 Furyborn Hellkite
??? = +6/+6 permanent maybe?!
>.> Ya... this is deserving of Mythic... "Vanilla" Could be used to describe this card... until you have no Flying or Reach monsters and go "FLIP! I HAVE 12 HEALTH AND CAN'T BLOCK WITH ANY OF MY CREATURES"... Ya, Flying is a little past "Vanilla"
Well put, my friend.
"Heh. Sure, I lose one life."
Turn 2: Mountain, Infernal Plunge, Geosurge, Furyborn Hellkite with Bloodthirst 6. Enjoy turn 2 12/12
Also works as a combo in standard with:
Akroma's Memorial
Carnage Wurm (only if second land is forest)
Elbrus, the Binding Blade
Hamletback Goliath
Hellkite Igniter
Karn Liberated
Rite of Ruin (best if this combo comes by later in the game)
Tyrant of Discord
Mind you, you also have 7 mana which could be dumped in a handful of other small-card combos. Pick and choose, really.
Turn 2: Infernal Plunge, Seething Song, Geosurge, Furyborn Hellkite.
Turn 3: Smash Face.
Still love him... Perhaps in a Naya-deck with spellbreaker behemoth and asceticism and perhaps also scout's warning.
