At first glance every timmy thinks "OMG now i can play all my big creatures for Green" But once you take a longer look at it it's not that great.

1. Doesn't have an imidiate effect on the battle.
2. Very easy to kill.
3. Only usefull if you have a hand full of over priced creatures.
4. Once you've used it once or twice you'll probably be able to just hard cast most of the creatures you'll be drawing.

Uh, StagemasterK, you can also use it to play creatures flash-style to surprise-block, and usually if you do it right, you'll also kill their creature while keeping yours. This is not counting the fact that you can summon two creatures in one of your own turns (one hard-casted and one through the Piper). That gives you a much bigger edge than just hard-casting both of them over two turns.

This creature, when summoned, has a huge bullseye on it for a reason. You are really underestimating it.

Obviously StagemasterK has never played against a deck where they use this with all the legendary Eldrazi and Progenitus. But I'll be happy to show him what it's like any time :P

Play in a GreenBlue deck with Norwood Priestess and draw spells to really pump out the fatties.

I'm glad this printing of piper was limited to Urza's. I feel like this piper wants to lure my children away.

i've always hated scott fisher's art. He just sucks. He paints ugly people in ugly poses. Sometimes it works, when it suits the subject matter (a horror, or a black creature, or whatever), but compare this to the rebecca guay art and you're just left wondering why they pay him.

Urza Block ended up having SO many cards that got out big scary effects really quickly (either by adding a lot of mana or by cheating things into play). See Tolarian Academy, Gaea's Cradle, Serra's Sanctum, Metalworker, Bubbling Muck, Defense of the Heart, Pattern of Rebirth, Gamekeeper, Academy Rector, Quicksilver Amulet, Tinker, Exploration, Show and Tell, Priest of Titania, Goblin Welder, Sneak Attack, Goblin Lackey, Rofellos, Copper Gnomes, this card, and more. Elvish Piper is one of the few of those that ended up being good instead of overpowered, and that's why I like it. It's also one of those cards that new players tend to overvalue and experienced players tend to undervalue. Yes, it is vulnerable to removal, yet it is less so than Metalworker, which is widely considered to be overpowered (I'm not at all saying that Metalworker is not overpowered; in fact, it IS more powerful than the piper). Also, remember that if you manage to cheat a Progenitus or something like that into play, you WILL most likely win.
