Very fun card. Changes basic mechanics of the game.

@JWolps

Actually they didn't make it so you can see more of the art. They just moved the picture a bit. If you compare both of them then you would see on this one the top is a little bit cut off.

I actually think Wizards has moved the proportions around a bit in newest cards, that's just how they are nowadays, I thought I saw it before, but I'm fairly certain it is just the way it is

Nah, I discovered this when switching between two tabs with both cards displayed, and it's the same window. If you were talking about old card frame vs. new, then you'd be right, but i think the art just gets moved very rarely on a case by case basis. It's simple with the magic of technology to "move" or "zoom" the window around, so to speak.

@DarthParallax Wait, hold on a second.
" Legendary Mythic Rares are just more better and more powerful than old stuff, making it completely unnecessary to learn or celebrate history!"
See, I don't think you really believe that. I think you posted that just to make us laugh. You got me to laugh. I mean, nobody could seriously believe that, right?

Anyways, I'm glad Doran's in this set. He certainly feels like he could be mythic rare with that kind of effect. Makes everything topsy-turvy.

@DarthParallax. You do realize that actually using Phage the Untouchable as your commander would cause you to die as so as she actually came into play? Cast from the command zone does not equal casting from the hand. And Mishra sucks as a commander. Really, really badly. It's a singleton format.

This guy Doran co-starred in "How to Make Tireless Tribe a Demigod in the Comfort of Your Own Home"

...seriously, Tireless Tribe has "Discard a card: Tireless Tribe gets +4/+4 until end of turn." It's amazing.

Fixed FTV:L list-
1. Vaevictis Asmadi--come on. Commander = EDH = Give us a non-Bolas Elder Dragon, please!
just for the memories
2. Emrakul the Aeons Torn--Putting in the second-best one because the first best is banned is actually counter to the spirit of their borkenness.
3. Progenitus--5 colors. reasonable include if the other Alarans are purged.
4. Tsabo Tavoc--I think Phyrexia needed a represent, and she would have looked cool next to Sisay.
5. Phage the Untouchable-much more Vorthos-tastic than Visara.
6. Captain Sisay-autoinclude.
7. Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir-Spot on. Direct hit. The best spoiler was spoiled first though, so that's a marketing fail.
8. Doran the Siege Tower-Wedge Commander.
9. Arcanis the Omnipotent-
10. Ravnican Legend- everyone loves Ravnica. come on.
11. Sek-kuar, Deathkeeper-a three color Legendary Goblin?! :D
12. Mishra, Artificer Prodigy- because no Urza creature card exists.
13. That Which Was Taken- hey, it's a Legend. a rather important one, that synergizes with Legends. And it's the only Kamigawa Legend I can pronounce :P
14. ? ? ?
15. Mikaeus, the Lunarch

This is just a rough sketch. I kept about 1/3 of the cards the same, so it's not like a think the set was a TOTAL fail- it just could have been the most amazing thing ever....and.....wasn't.

It's already been talked into the ground, but I think I raise up very fair points when it comes to:
Ravnicans, Phyrexians, an Elder Dragon and Mishra. Easy places to put in cards that would have been appreciated far, far more for their history than the Alarans are for their power. I killed Oona because the Faerie Deck that was such a menace didn't actually use her, so she shouldn't get credit. Vendillion Clique is another story entirely.

EDIT: Here's the thing. I think FTV: Legends was tailored way too much to 'supposedly' please Commander crowds. I've kept returning to the set time and again, trying to decide whether I should buy it. That alone is a warning sign. FtV: Dragons, Exiled, and Relics were so amazingly enticing, that the only reason I don't have Dragons and Exiled is money. Relics I emptied my pockets for the second I could get my hands on it.

While I know that gameplay-wise, the Legend Rule is almost a strict drawback, except for the Commander format where you NEED a Legend to play, the whole idea of Legendary creatures that have personal names and stories opens up Magic: the Gathering to be 10,000x more interesting than Chess, even though from a 'complicated skill-testing game' view, Chess has Magic beat. The inequality of the cards cuts the real decision tree down to size by a lot.

I understand Commander to a novice level. I don't believe that Phage or Mishra would be particularly impressive as Commanders. But for the Vorthos Super Nerds who read all the novels and eat up webcomics and keep waiting with baited breath for the next Savor the Flavor Column to tell us what's actually going on, Mishra and Phage are some of the all-time Super Stars of the History of Magic.

For example, the Mirari appeared in FTV: Relics. I don't think it's quite a Mythic Rare-powerful card. It looks cool and strong, but also seems very weak compared to its fellow Relics. But if you look up the story, it is so deeply entrenched in the entire history of the blocks that they couldn't NOT put it in. It is indeed a Relic. An artifact with lots of history behind it.

Mishra, Artificer Prodigy is more than just a Time Spiral card. He's the character that represents half of the Brother's War, one of the most monumental events in Multiverse history. Ditto Vaevictus Asmadi.

Phage might be a poor Commander, but she's excellent in your 99, and she was a main character for 2 whole blocks: Odyssey and Onslaught. She even merged with Akroma, Angel of Wrath to make Karona, the False God. Maybe Karona would have been more appropriate, since she's more playable as a Commander.

My point is that the thought of a set called 'From the Vault: Legends' makes me think of much, much more than 'just' "can I win the game with this card?"

Hell, NORIN THE WARY, or the infamous Hans, would have been very well appreciated to see in this set, even though one isn't a card (yet!) and the other sort of sucks.

This set should have thought of the Vorthoses, and it actually didn't. It makes me wonder if Relics' wonderful Vorthosness was actually an accident and WOTC was just thinking 'what are some overpowered cards we can print in shiny to jack up the price?'

@kiseki: Black is because he nerfs enemy creatures. A lot of creatures have higher power than toughness, and Doran punishes them for it. Doran's three colors each do something- White pumps your creatures, Black weakens theirs, and Green makes Doran huge. His colors make perfect sense.

@ BrightOrangePants: I thought so as well. But I also thought Warmonger's Chariot.

Maybe:
T1: Forest, Birds of Paradise
T2: Plains, this
T3: Swamp, Tree of Redemption, swing with this card
T4: Forest, Chariot, equip, swing for lethal

I don't know. Maybe. This requires a crazy mana base, though.

DarthParallax: Kikki-Jikki also appeals to Vorthos fans. He was one of the legends in the Kamigawa vignettes, and his story was one of the most entertaining (Although I'd say Iname's was my favorite). He's also a card with a history behind it, both as a casual and competitive creature.

He enables Sygg, River Cutthroat to activate his own ability. I can just imagine Sygg having an epiphany after meeting Doran...

So it's a 3 CMC drop that by its own effect, is a 5/5 in combat and changes the entire game while it's on the battlefield?

Heck, he's good in a deck that just has no creatures with greater power than toughness. Not hard to build around, and he's essentially a 5/5 for 3cmc.

Where's all the lady treefolk? Oh, not counting the witch...and if the Sapling of Colfenor is one...can't tell. Of course he/she is not grown, I guess. Am I confused? Are they counting Dryads? Cause that doesn't help tribal.

I've not met a person who dislikes Doran. It's definitely one of the most popular legendary creatures - and for good reason. The design is just as solid as the gnarled trunk of this treefolk.

Inside Out is the anti-Doran.

- It is the two colors that Doran isn't.
- It's a hybrid, making it really easy to cast compared to Doran's triple-color cost.
- It's an Instant, which is pretty much as far as you can get from a creature, card type-wise.
- Doran is from Lorwyn, Inside Out is from Shadowmoor (the plane, not the set)
- It kills Doran outright.
- It can do a decent impression of Doran's ability anyways, turning your unblocked 2/10 into a scary tower of damage. It can also make 10/2s nearly harmless.

Come to think of it, I never heard about what happened to Doran during Shadowmoor...

I decided to build a Doran deck a while back, and it's honestly my favorite deck I currently own. I use Gatecreeper Vines to search out my land, Hold the Gates to make my dudes massive and vigil, Zur, the Enchanter for more fun with that, Unearth for some protection, Green Sun's Zenith to make it that much more annoying, and Trostani, Selesnya's Voice along side Rhox Faithmender for some awfully hysterical life gain. I encourage everybody to make a deck around him at some point, he is a total boss
