This seems good even without the new Bloodthirst cards. How often has a red deck run out of steam when its hand is empty and the opponent has some fatties in the way when he's only at a few points of life? Besides, he also works nicely with guys like War Elemental or Sigil of Sleep. I like him.

Great with the Bloodthirst ability.

Yeah. Just a shameless ploy to make bloodthirst important.
And on a Goblin, too. Not sure if they're still as good as they used to be, but I'm still sick of every other color getting new and exciting tribals, only to see at least one damn golbin in EVERY set. Sure, it's a core set, but there were no Elves in Kamigawa and no Humans in Lorwyn. Not to mention how many sets passed by without Merfolk. But every set has goblins.

It seems like most red decks will do better running the also-1-CMC Grim Lavamancer, unless you're bloodthirst-heavy or for some reason you're running a red deck where nothing ever goes to the graveyard. But given the somewhat situational graveyard interaction the Lavamancer has, it's certainly not a case of strictly worse by any means.
Which would be better as a sacrifice one-drop with Goblin Grenade?

I drafted four of these and ended up going red-green with a very solid bloodthirst deck. Without those four slingers that deck had nothing going for it, but with them, I did pretty well. Red has great bloodthirst creatures at 2, 3, and 4 mana.

Give it a Sword of X and Y and watch your opponent cry.

Despite the low cost and ease of use, the Goblin doesn't harm creatures. I missed that and went into a game with 4 of them, only to discover that they are powerless against creatures. However, my Circle of Flame took care of most 1 toughness creatures. It's at least something to consider.

I like when people waste removal on my one-drop.
Feels right, somehow.

repeatable effects in limited are always good and this one gets blood for your thirsty guys. It could easily get in for 2 - 4 damage and chump block something big so still really good for a one drop. People played frostling and mogg fanatic and this guy is on par with him. You could always run him with grim lavamancer it's not a bad idea for red to run 8 one drops

This is better than that 1 drop 1/1 unblockable mono-black spirit, something named Hollow.

Why do you say that Sorian? They're almost identical, but the edge probably slightly goes to Tormented Soul. Fireslinger can still deal damage even in the face of no combat step (Stonehorn Dignitary) - but that's a very minor advantage. Tormented Soul can be equipped and enchanted, meaning that instead of 1 damage a turn, you're doing 4 damage a turn if you put a Dark Favor or a Greatsword on him. Fireslinger's damage doesn't increase with his power.
Still, Fireslinger is a great limited card, and not a bad 1 drop overall.

Guarenteed damage each turn is a winner especially with BloodThirst!!!!! A nice one cost card that will become a staple in any standard red deck.

I vote him as the second-best turn 1 drop in red standard, under Stromkirk Noble. I think he is better than Grim Lavamancer just because you don't need to keep mana open for his ability and don't need to rely on stuff being in your graveyard, especially with cards like Time Reversal around. 5/5 too because the 1 damage adds up faster than you would think, especially if you get more than one out. Turn 1: Mountain, Fireslinger Turn 2: Mountain, Fireslinger, Fireslinger, ping Turn 3: Pingpingping

I have a couple of these cards in my deck and i was just wondering if its my turn and i play this card can i use its "tap" ability to deal 1 damage to target player right then? or does summoning sickness prevent tapping abilities as well? Just started playing recently so any advice is welcome, Thanks!

@Korethal: Summoning sickness prevents creatures without haste from attacking or using abilities with {T}. So no, unless you find a way to give it haste, you can't just cast this and tap it to ping.

He is great and all, but he would be even better if he could also target creatures as well as players.

i just love him cause a lot of my creatures have Bloodthirst 1 or Bloodthirst 2 so this 1 dmg can change 2/2 vampire with lifelink to 4/4 vampire with lifelink :D

Great in my mono-red burn/bloodthirst deck. Ping over blockers, then get a 3/3 Stormblood Berserker on turn 2 :D
