I'd play this in constructed with a crap ton of mana artifacts if I did. Just wish there was a way to protect those from the new green shatterstorm that will see play on sideboards. Blue/red chalice control with some proliferate and this guy as a big finish?

honestly feel he's strongly underrated especially with koth you could drop this bad boy turn five and be swinging for insane amounts esspecially if you use koth again to use the fire breathing and you have some early game artifact game going

Under-rated card. Suck in constructed? Hello... Have we forgotten about our dear myrs? What can be more irritating when people are expecting an artifact big hitter to fall for a shatter or naturalize, only to realize it's a NON-artifact creature? If played properly with myrs, this guy can be out in turn 4-5. Splash green and he'll be out faster.
But I'll only rate him 4/5 because the lack of the awesome trample or first strike :D But still, he has an awesome art, text flavor and ability.

i think this card owns, but i play a slow stalling game and have stuff like this guy win it for me.
with 3 artifacts on the field and koth out turn 3 he busts out and wins it on turn 5 with super buff :D
but i guess turn 5 is just to slow for most competitive players

It looks like he's got two Fireballs trailing in behind him.
He's already the most awesome divebomber in Mirrodin. Hit this guy with an Assault Strobe or an Unnatural Predation, and he'll be ending games left and right.
i would play him as Haste makes up for the 7 cost, but would hate it in my opening hand. still much better than the 3.4 rating i'm seeing as of my post..

As for the card itself, most of the time it will come out and swing for 5. 9 mana just doesn't happen that often. If it does live for one turn and you have at least 3 artifacts, it will be able to put out a truly disastrous amount of damage.
One thing to note though, is that Hellkite Igniter's 'artifact breathing' is very friendly to two-color decks, so I could see him being run in a Red/Green/Artifact ramp deck.
Card: 3.75/5 (basis being that 4/5 is reserved for cards that are efficient enough see competitive play. This guy's almost there, but he's just too expensive).

example: if you have 2 artifacts out, and tap 1r, he will get +2/+0, correct? can you tap another 1r and have it be a total of +4/+0?
this could be brutal with an artifact/red deck? Iron Myrs plus Pyretic Rituals could have this guy out on turn 4 (ideally).

wow this card is very underrated... he costs much, jeah, and for some reason! He is a game ender. If you, say, have three artifacts on your battefield, at first you swing him for five, and at the next turn, you have eight mana and pumps him up to 17 power and the opponent is dead!
green red metalcraft deck with a little bit of mana ramp and this card becomes a one shot master. The art is fabulous as well!

this is an amazing card. and anyone complaining about it's mana cost can play my artifact deck. And see how they like it when i generate about 20 mana in a turn, play this card, equip it with sword of vengeance, and still have enough mana to use it's ability a couple times. it'll be overkill.

Myr deck is the best thought I have for this guy. But really most slots in that type of deck are focused on getting around the 1000X ways of decimating token/weenie decks. Its a nice card to exist, devastating in limited to be sure, but I think that's the only reason he exists.
But may be a good one for the dragon collection in the future.
Once got this to 115/5 once believe it or not. Then it was killed by a Steel Hellkite with first strike. Adorable

If you have two artifacts this has normal firebreathing (that you can pay in 2 mana increments). More artifacts is a bonus.

This card is exellent in an artifact deck ,especually while using Sembalance Anvil, which will make your mana artifacts cost nada ,and this guy might actualy beable to take advantage of his haste and booster attack .

I normally use a semblance anvil to exile a creature that doesn't really matter far into the game and cast the Hellkite Igniter and throw a mask of avacyn on it. Then I put an enchantment to make it unblockable (of course getting this combination is very unlikely)

The flavor, art, and even effect make it seem like this could even be a Mythic Rare. It certainly fits the ideal criteria-epic, flavorful, inspires you to build a deck around it, and isn't a multiformat 4-of auto include. It is pretty high cost, though; perhaps he'd need a small p/t buff or another keyword ability.
