Gelectrode doesn't work with this guy because a copy isn't actually a spell. But if you give the giants haste, then you can win!

@Arachibutyrophobia Actually, a copy of a spell is a spell, but Gelectrode's untapping ability won't trigger when the copies are put onto the stack since a copy of a spell isn't cast, it's simply put onto the stack.
However, as you said, giving the giants haste, with a card such as Burst of Speed, and your opponent had better hope that he has a Fog.

I love this card! I played it in an arcane deck: the best play was casting a Reach Through Mists spliced with one or more Glacial Ray, and replicate it paying only (u) for 2 damages and a card! Or casting a Seething Song (replicating it as much as possible) and then Shock! With this Djiin every instant or sorcery becomes a killer card! 5/5
i <3 this card!!!! correct me if im wrong but can one have infinite replicate when used with eye of the storm? (instants and soceries are removed from the game and can be played once per turn without paying mana costs which would mean they would cost 0 to replicate) and works great with cards with storm like empty the warrens

Like leomistico said, Seething Song is probably the best card ever to combo with this. Infinite fireballs that do infinite damage each? Yes, please.
I have a wizard/burn deck with 2 of these guys, 2 Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind, 2 Azami, Lady of Scrolls, 2 Arcanis the Omnipotent, 2 Mindwrack Liege, 4 Seething Songs, a few gelectrodes and a bunch of other wizards. The wizards act as a drawing engine and the burn cards are there to beat the opponent to death. If the game extends to the point where I can get Djinn Illuminatus out it's basically game over (it can't be easily countered if put onto the battlefield with Mindwrack Liege, a hot tip for you kids). Simple and fun.

@ Lege, Seething Song won't get you infinite mana with this, since you have to pay for the replicate cost at the time you cast the spell, and no longer have the option to once any of them have resolved.
My all-time favorite combo: use Djinn Illuminatus to replicate Pongify and turn their entire army into an army of APE tokens! (!!!) Apes getting out of hand? Replicate Unsummon and suddenly they've got zilch. Sometimes for kicks I'd ape my crtters as well, for an all-ape game ;)

Technically combos with Wrath of God! Really though, one of my favorites. It is best with timmy/johnny decks. I like it with Fire/Ice, Impulse, or Boomerang on an Isochron Scepter. And it makes Suleimann's Legacy (the most beautiful card ever made) more useful.
People seem to forget about mana acceleration when they see a big casting cost. 2 seething songs on turn 3 will pop this guy out. Or, you can always get him out during your upkeep on turn 3 by getting Oath of Druids out on turn 2.
I've only been using the Illuminatus for a short time, and I've only been able to summon him three or so times so far, but every single time I did, the next turn I subjected my opponent to a storm of Lightning Bolts for the win. Amazing card with incredible potential.

7 mana available and everything has replicate: this think can combo with the pacts+gelectrode/haste as above (same with wee dragonauts if your opponent has no flying stuff) but it can make something as simple as a lightning bolt or lava spike deadly. beats the crap out of sphinxbone wand imo

With Djinn and Niv-Mizzet out, you can replicate multiple copies of Brainstorm for a major burn. Every Brainstorm to Niv is like a Lightning Bolt, and for the cost of U, you can expect 5+ replicate at that stage of the game.
@mrd8888 - Dark Ritual and Seething Song have the same problem. You have to pay all the Replicate costs before you get any mana back from any of them. If you can create 5 and cast a dark Ritual five times you can have 15 , but other than that...
Turn 7: Djinn Illuminatus. Turn 8: Eight Lightning Bolts to the face.
Or, if you're playing in multiplayer: Hit someone with the Djinn Illuminatus, then Needle Drop eight times. If you can't win after drawing eight cards with a red deck, you might want to try playing another color.

Meh.
Izzet Guildmage and a Training Grounds can do better since you can copy spells for less: One U on instants and One R on sorceries. Faster too.
Curiosity and Niv-Mizzet is an instant win but I love the mention of the Nephilim. Much more crazy combo potential.
Gauntlet of Power! I also use iron myr or Foriysian Totem to accelerate the gauntlet. On the following turn when I cast the Djinn, I should have at least four mana left over for lightning bolts in case they use a kill spell on it before I can untap everything. Three days ago, I cast 14 shocks (buffed by Tok-tok to 3 damage each) to finish off three players, and then 16 tarfires to overkill the last guy. My other deck uses braid of fire to get him out (with Soulbright Flamekin) on turn four, and to ensure a massive number of burn spells on my next turn. Fire Servant and Past in Flames also make the cut, so your deck won't be useless if they kill or counter the Djinns.

I had a deck once built around this guy and Pact of the Titan, and something that gave all my creatures haste. Was pretty hilarious. Also, combine this guy in a Geosurge deck and you have easy infinite mana for, say, blue sun's zenith. Or fireball/Banefire.
That's how it would work, correct? Miracle replicate cost instead of regular CMC based on how it was played? Though if this guy's out, you could just skip that card and have lightning bolts on standby.

Is it just me, or does this turn Goblin Grenade into an absurdly undercosted blaze x5?
S-r-ex
★★★★★ (5.0/5.0)(1 vote)
@ Appleseed000: I'm afraid that's not the case. Miracle is an alternative cost, and rule 117.9c says this:
"An alternative cost doesn't change a spell's mana cost, only what its controller has to pay to cast it. Spells and abilities that ask for that spell's mana cost still see the original value."
So your best way to take 5 turns for 10 mana is to replicate Twincast three times instead.

What about Ancestral Vision and Wheel of Fate? Since their mana cost is zero on account they can only be Suspended if you're going to play it from your hand, couldn't you then play those spells via Replicate any number of times after they've been Suspended on the turn they resolve?
AwakenedOne
☆☆☆☆☆ (0.0/5.0)
@Vulpus:
Nope, can't do that. The mana cost of those spells is non existent, as there is nothing printed int he top right corner of the card. They have a converted mana cost of 0, though. This, however, means nothing for Replicate as it specifically gives it a cost equal to the mana costs of the card with Replicate.

Pair him with a Bösium Strip for a second helping of beatdown on the next turn. My favorite spell to replicate tho is probably Demonic Tutor.

So, this makes cards like Fireball be "XYR - Deal X*(Y+1) damage to target creature or player" and Comet Storm into "XYZRR - Deal X*(Y/2+1) damage to Z+1 target creatures or players".

- darkblast

But Pact of the Titan and Summoner's Pact can rig up some pretty sweet winning combos with this. Always fun playing with death like that, makes me think of Last Chance.

"Are you... certain?" the Djinn asked, puzzled at his query.
"Absolutely." Johnny said.
