Reminds me of Spellweaver Helix, but this enchantment appears to be much more awesome. Play two instant/sorcery spells which are already in your graveyard, and then just Fork every single subsequent one - hell yes!
Manamorphose is a card i would definitely play with this. Effectively free, slightly shrinkens the deck in size, able to add quest counters and when copied provides two mana and a card.
Some other good picks which might be played along with this are cards that become more powerful if other cards with the same name are in a graveyard - since you need to do that anyways in order to make use of Pyromancer's Ascention, which would be Rite of Flame, Kindle or Flame Burst, and when splashing blue Acc-umulated Knowledge, Rune Snag or Æther Burst. Feast of Flesh or Life Burst might be also useful.
Effects that return these cards to your hand will be more useful for two reasons - this will either help adding the second quest counter, or they will get Forked when recast, therefore those with Retrace, Buyback or Revocer might be also a good choice. Mystic Speculation for example might be used that way.
Cards with Storm will also become insane with this enchantment.
Clockspinning can also find use to add the second quest counter easily.
Other -costed draw-managing cards should also do a good job for similar reasons as Manamorphose, e.g. Ponder, Brainstorm, Serum Visions or Opt.
It might even be worth considering to use Tome Scour or Glimpse the Unthinkable on yourself to evade being forced to play your spells twice before this enchantment gets a quest counter. Mental Note and Careful Study might be used in a similar way.
Another card which should do a good job with Pyromancer's Ascention is Sunforger. It effectively let's you cast instant cards from your library for and hence should be able to add the quest counters with ease by itself. The disadvantage here is that you need a creature to equip the Sunforger to.
Finally another card worth using with this which can also do a good tutoring job is Kaho, Minamo Historian. Get your favorites, maybe add the last quest counters if there are still missing some, and then Twincast your stuff. And it of course also combines with the aforementioned Sunforger.
Does anyone else see this being rediculous with a kicked Rites of Replication? Or Conquer's Pledge? Or any of the rare-kicker instants? Or the more powerful traps? Or Lightning Bolt? Or Angel's Mercy when Sanguine Bond is in Play? Or a lot of things, actually. This thing screams crazy-combo potential, though the effect will be hard to get into play in varients where you are less likely to have multiple copies of the same spell (sealed deck, booster drafts, etc.) All in all. A powerful card.

I have some interesting ideas with this card for my Spellbound Dragon deck. Think about Twincast on Twincast for a direct damage spell.
I actually got passed this card during a pre-release draft, along with several other rare gems that people weren't interested in because they wanted to win the game. This may be one of my favorite cards in the set.

This card is just all around good for burn. It works even better in multiples, since the more you have on the battlefield, the more copies you get.
It's good in standard with all of the red lovin' and even better in extended where it can have sick combo potential.
@akrolsmir: As far as I can tell, Retrace will work with Pyromancer Ascension, but only if you have at least two in your graveyard. When you Retrace, you are casting from your graveyard. When you do that, the card leaves the graveyard and is put onto the stack where it becomes a spell. There's never a window in which a card with Retrace will be in your graveyard and on the stack as a cast spell simultaneously. I could be wrong, but I don't think you can exploit it like that.

@Gezus82 If I'm not mistaking, it does work with kicker and X mana cost (a copy also copies the mode of the card, X among other things). It will create only one additionnal copy of spell with storm, since the storm copies are not being cast, they're being put directly onto the stack.
It's te same way as storm does not count previous storm copies. For instance, if you play a brain freeze after playing a ponder and a brainstorm, it will create 2 copy, for a total of 12 cards milled, if you play a second brainfreeze, it will only create 3 copy for a total of 16 cards, it won't count the first 2 copy.

Well, I wish they had flashback in the Type 2 cards. You play this, play the spell, play it again for its flashback cost without needing to draw it again, and you have a quest counter by only playing one spell. Have two of these in your opening hand, and it's 3x Elemental Appeal, kicked! 3x lightning bolt! 3x any burn! What about counters? 3x Cancel! 3x Negate! What about boosts? 3x Fortify! 3x Path to Exile! 3x Righteousness! Milling? 3x TRAUMATIZE!!!! 3x GLIMPSE THE UNTHINKABLE!!!! 12x ARCHIVE TRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Works well with so many cards that listing them all would take forever, but my favourites would be Punishing Fire and Seimic Spike. Play 3 of the former and then you can return it to your hand ready to play again AND be copied AND be returned again as many times as you like. As for Seismic Spike... destroy two target lands AND you end up with all of your mana back? Beautiful.

It could be potentially awesome when it goes active.. or one shroud creature or naturalize kills it. Hard to say, certainly twin cast would be brutal here. It's actually not quite as good as a simple replicate since it allows you to copy a spell infi number of times vs. once, like djinn illuminatus.

As it was stated before - twincast or storm spells just make a copy, they don't make you cast the spell again. So no, you wouldn't get any quest counters for twincasting or forking any spell.
Still, I'm gonna play this marvel and twincast both together. It simply fits together, both cards can be used to bring some serious pain, and all you need is just another spell. Plus, imagine the fun when you have charged Pyromancer's ascension, cast lightning bolt AND then twincast - 12 damage for RUU, thank you, it was pleasure doin' bussiness.
What I don't like much about this ascension is the way it gets pumped, however. It somehow forces you not to pick particular spells, but quantity of them. That's gonna be 4x lightning bolt (hell, I'd play it 4x anyway), 4x Brainstorm, 4x... firebolt, probably. Firebolt is good alternative, perhaps, cause' you need only two to pump it up (altough by turn 5, you'll maybe have it up and running anyway).
As XDaragoX said, Lightning Arc could be interesting choice, but I'll probably try it with Reality Strobe and perhaps, when couple of these will be in play, Upheaval will follow (also doubled, just because it'll be harder to counter).
It's kinda expensive and long-term, tough... Hm...

Try combining this card with Naya Charm. If you have Naya Charm "A" in the grave, cast Naya Charm "B" in your hand to return A to your hand. Since B is copied, you can tap out all of your opponent's creatures at the start of his turn. If you've got 6 mana, you can tap out all his creatures and do 3 damage to him every turn. If you dislike Naya Charm's cost (), you can try Recollect instead.

Pairing this with Chandra Ablaze could lead to some devastating field burn. As long as Ascension has enough counters when you use Chandra's last ability, you'll be able to cast every Red spell in your graveyard twice.

Only deck I've seen it really work effectively is R/W/G control using Naya Charm to bring another NC back to your hand, activating the ability, and then using the charm to bring itself back while either tapping all opponents creatures or bolting them one by one.
Arc Blade's problem is that it's exiled, so it never hits the graveyard, however it is cast, so if you can find another way to activate your ascension, you'll be able to use it to control a bit more.
Consider splashing U so you can Time Warp for 2 turns, 5 mana for 2 turns is pretty sweet.

Absolutely ridiculous if there're two counters on it when you cast Time Spiral. Draw a fresh hand, unload instants and/or float mana and then wait for the second one to resolve and draw a third hand? It's great.
What's that? You drew another Time Spiral with your third hand and Rite of Flame/Manamorphose to convert/add more mana to your pool and a fresh hand of burn spells?
Just a thought, but this can work really, really well with Pyromancer's Swath, as it fills up your graveyard with plenty of burn spells. Now you just need Wheel of Fortune or Wheel of Fate, and a bunch of red mana.

This is the worst. Not only is it obviously good 'n' helpful like the other ascensions (lol), but it has a not-so-subtle appeal to Spike in its design. There are people walking throughout English speaking countries with only 5 five words in their vocabulary: Lightning, Bolt, Burst, Pyromancer, and Ascension. First cascade, and then this. Obviously, when I was shopping on Ebay, four Swift Silences were not enough. All I can hope for now is a more quick and efficient instant-kill combo (than 'lucky charms') so that no more other 'cool/creative ideas' are worth discussing.
A better idea would be for Wizards to come out with an enchantment for that says "Whenever you cast an instant or sorcery spell, that spell gains 'this spell deals 1 damage to target creature or player'. Then copy that spell 19 times." That card would awesome. I would immediately run 4 in my Aura Finesse deck.
P.S. Did you know that if you had this card with Doubling Season, then ....
P.P.S. Could you imagine Pyromancer Ascension with This card??! Geez, the card advantage from that is just simply amazing!

As shown recently in a tournament, a good way to make this card into a good deck is to put a ton of cheap card drawing spells. This will quickly fill your graveyard while still keeping your hand relatively full. Stay afloat with mana leaks and/or bolts (maybe spreading seas too, or you could just use bursts instead with seas in the board. Depends on your meta) long enough until you can get a pyromancer ascension to stick. Once you play time warp with an active ascension it's really hard to lose.
Be prepared to deal with any graveyard hate beyond the 1st game. Leyline of the void is really hard to deal with, but only if it's in the starting hand (if they hardcast it, it's 4 mana, you should be countering it). This makes your board very obvious as well; counters and bounces.
The best part of this deck is that it's very cheap, relative to other top tier decks. The fetches are the most expensive cards, but fetches are a good investment so that's not a big deal, and you could do without them (though the deck becomes a bit less reliable). That leaves time warp, as every other card is less than a dollar. The entire deck with fetches and sideboard is around $150. Without fetches it's around $100.

For a while that'd be true. 4 turns in a row, assuming you already have Pyromancer active and you don't draw an additional Time Warp.
On the other hand...
1. Play Pyromancer 2. Play Call to Mind (A) targeting arbitrary instant/sorcery 3. Play Call to Mind (B) targeting Call to Mind (A) (1 counter on Pyromancer) 4. Play Call to Mind (A) targeting Call to Mind (B) (2 counters on Pyromancer, Pyromancer is now active) 5. Play Time Warp, Pyromancer duplicates it so that you get 2 more turns. 6. Play Call to Mind (B) targeting Call to Mind (A), Pyromancer duplicates it so that you can also target Time Warp. 7. Go to #4

Alright, I'm confused about how copying a spell with fork or twincast would look with this thing in play. The way I understand it, Fork gets to choose targets before this card triggers a fork copy, then you choose a new target for the new fork. Then when fork's copies are laid down after it resolves, does PA copy those again?
(Edit: just read the rulings of fork, its copies aren't "cast" so they can't be copied by PA. Question answered. I'll leave my post in case anybody else was wondering.)
I'm imagining the stack goes like this:
1. Shock. 2. Pyromancer Ascension's copy of shock 3. Fork (either spell) 4. PA's copy of fork targeting a shock (can this target the original fork? That would seem stupid... infinite spells for free.)
(Edit: No infinite spells. I think you could loop spells resolving by constantly forking the original fork with the copy, but the copy won't get copied with PA. That still might be fun.)
PA's fork copy resolves, so a new shock from a different source than PA is thrown down... which PA copies? (Edit: no.)
1. Shock. 2. Pyromancer Ascension's copy of shock 3. Fork 4. (PA's copy of fork)'s copy of shock 5. PA's copy of
And then something similar when the next fork resolves?
(Edit: Ok I got this. I thought you'd get 6 shocks out of this. The way I now understand it:
1. Shock. 2. Pyromancer Ascension's copy of shock 3. Fork 4. PA's copy of fork targetting a shock
PA's fork resolves and gives me a shock (which doesn't trigger PA since this shock is not "cast")...
1. Shock. 2. Pyromancer Ascension's copy of shock 3. Fork 4.( PA's copy of fork)'s copy of shock
4. and 3. resolve, doing 2 and then throwing down:
1. Shock. 2. Pyromancer Ascension's copy of shock 3. Fork's copy of shock
which resolve for a total of 4 shocks. for 3 mana. :)
Wait a minute, this is still super abusable. Twincast/Fork any sorcery sent at you with PA quested and send it back at them twice as powerful for or ! WTF!)

If a spell which would trigger a counter fizzles due to the target being sacrificed in response, I believe that stops the counter being added?
Active Pyromancer's Ascension plus 2x Call to Mind (or a Regrowth where legal) means I can recycle every instant or sorcery in my graveyard repeatedly for 3 mana. Very nice being able to counter (or Silence) every turn.

@bijart_dauth: Casting an instant or sorcery with retrace from your graveyard will not trigger Pyromancer Ascension's first ability if it's the only card with this name in your graveyard. That's because early in the process of casting, you have to move that card from the graveyard to the stack. Therefore, you never get to complete casting your spell with another card with the same name being in your graveyard.
For the exact same reason, flashback won't reward you with quest counters, either.
Read the rulings, at least.

This enchantment is the real reason Ancestral Vision is banned in Modern.
Unfortunately, Arc Blade and Reality Strobedon't grow exponentially; spell copies, even ones with suspend, cease to exist when they move from one zone to the other as a state-based action - in this case, when the copy goes back into exile, it will disappear, just like when a token dies or is exiled.
I was going to build a deck, and checked the rules just to make sure. Quite a letdown.

A better idea would be for Wizards to come out with an enchantment for
That card would awesome. I would immediately run 4 in my Aura Finesse deck.
P.S. Did you know that if you had this card with Doubling Season, then ....
P.P.S. Could you imagine Pyromancer Ascension with This card??! Geez, the card advantage from that is just simply amazing!
This works nice with Chandra Ablaze :)
This + Twincast + Time Warp = Solitaire mode.
For a while that'd be true. 4 turns in a row, assuming you already have Pyromancer active and you don't draw an additional Time Warp.
On the other hand...
1. Play Pyromancer
2. Play Call to Mind (A) targeting arbitrary instant/sorcery
3. Play Call to Mind (B) targeting Call to Mind (A) (1 counter on Pyromancer)
4. Play Call to Mind (A) targeting Call to Mind (B) (2 counters on Pyromancer, Pyromancer is now active)
5. Play Time Warp, Pyromancer duplicates it so that you get 2 more turns.
6. Play Call to Mind (B) targeting Call to Mind (A), Pyromancer duplicates it so that you can also target Time Warp.
7. Go to #4
(Edit: just read the rulings of fork, its copies aren't "cast" so they can't be copied by PA. Question answered. I'll leave my post in case anybody else was wondering.)
I'm imagining the stack goes like this:
1. Shock.
2. Pyromancer Ascension's copy of shock
3. Fork (either spell)
(Edit: no.)
1. Shock.
2. Pyromancer Ascension's copy of shock
3. Fork
4. (PA's copy of fork)'s copy of shock
5. PA's copy of
And then something similar when the next fork resolves?
(Edit: Ok I got this. I thought you'd get 6 shocks out of this. The way I now understand it:
1. Shock.
2. Pyromancer Ascension's copy of shock
3. Fork
4. PA's copy of fork targetting a shock
PA's fork resolves and gives me a shock (which doesn't trigger PA since this shock is not "cast")...
1. Shock.
2. Pyromancer Ascension's copy of shock
3. Fork
4.( PA's copy of fork)'s copy of shock
4. and 3. resolve, doing 2 and then throwing down:
1. Shock.
2. Pyromancer Ascension's copy of shock
3. Fork's copy of shock
which resolve for a total of 4 shocks. for 3 mana. :)
Wait a minute, this is still super abusable. Twincast/Fork any sorcery sent at you with PA quested and send it back at them twice as powerful for
Active Pyromancer's Ascension plus 2x Call to Mind (or a Regrowth where legal) means I can recycle every instant or sorcery in my graveyard repeatedly for 3 mana. Very nice being able to counter (or Silence) every turn.
It's no Isochron Sceptor, but this card is still powerful and very fun to play.
4.5/5
There's nothing quite like having one or more of these up and running. It's just funny with cards like Foresee and Staggershock.
especially with Swans of Bryn Argoll
I lightning bolt my Bird, Ascension gets active and I draw three. ooo, look what I drew it's another lightning bolt. I will draw six, get my other Ascension active and double Galvanic blast for 24.
5/5 XD
KILL IT IMMEDIATELY
Casting an instant or sorcery with retrace from your graveyard will not trigger Pyromancer Ascension's first ability if it's the only card with this name in your graveyard. That's because early in the process of casting, you have to move that card from the graveyard to the stack. Therefore, you never get to complete casting your spell with another card with the same name being in your graveyard.
For the exact same reason, flashback won't reward you with quest counters, either.
Read the rulings, at least.
@Wataa71:
Yes! Gotta love splice onto arcane, even if its card pool is lousy.
I was going to build a deck, and checked the rules just to make sure. Quite a letdown.
Trust me, its blue.
...Oh.
On a multiplayer level, be a real jerk and splash black for blood tithe, syphon mind and skull rend and your choice of tutors to find them. guttersnipe optional.
Rebound is also good palls with this, as well as Retrace.
If you have it charged, and play a brain freeze
and then twincast it.
Would it be 3 + 6 + 9 + 12 for a total of 30 cards ?
