Djinn Illuminatus doesn't work that well with grapeshot silleh. The replicate spells are copied, no casted, so they don't count towards the storm. The Mäss Hysteria works rather well, so long as your opponent doesn't cast fog.

Unplayable, but some combo deck might make use of it with the new Hive Mind, although the other pacts are better.

hive mind combo is pretty decent.

g*ddamn sick art though. i must say, i was always a fan of an unknown terror's hand reaching out of the ground...just so damn cool

Raymond Swanland needs to do more Magic cards. I really hope he plays as much a role in Scars of Mirroden block as he did in Zendikar.

4 pact of the titan, 1 mountain, 1 simian spirit guide, 1 kicked goblin bushwacker, you win! But not really that good.

for all those Djinn Illuminatus comboers out there, I so desperately want to holy day or safe pa ssage all the damage and watch as those 25 giants you summoned up would come back to bite your butt hahaha

When a card says "If you don't. you lose the game", it had better be some infernal monstrosity of a spell of unimaginable power... not a 4/4 creature.

In design, the token has haste.

What could have been... ):

Angelicarbiter, that woudn't work. The person who cast the spell is the one who has to pay the 4R.

Really works in a UR with Hive Mind, assuming nobody else can pay the cost.

The worst pact. If it had haste it would be reasonable, but come on! 5 mana for a vanilla 4/4? that doesn't cut out for a good spell. I would have even preferred something as unoriginal as this:

Pact of Lightning
0cmc
Pact of Lightning is Red. Deal 3 damage to target creature or player. At the beginning of your next upkeep, pay RR. If you don't, you lose the game.

It's completely boring, and uninteresting, but at LEAST it's a better card than this in my humble opinion.

Ooh if the giant just had haste...
Still a good card though, instant creatures at no (immediate) cost is always good.

Meh a 4/4 with flash, psuedo haste (Due to flash), isn't a creature spell, is comboable etc.. seems fine for 5. The idea is in a close game, drop him, block an offending */4- and win it next turn.

@Just1Micky
what do you mean Bazaar Trader??? Your opponent would gain control of your 4/4 creature and YOU would still have to pay the 4R or you lose. The spell says you have to pay, not the creature. It would not matter if you cast this, got the creature and took a crap on the table, your still going to have to pay. No matter what, if this spell resolves, you better be ready to pay that 5 mana or lose the game. (Unless ya got something that says you can't lose the game).

Hive mind and Djinn Illuminatus are fun creative uses for this otherwise mediocre (and dangerous, you opponent could do something sneaky here!) card. I mean... I guess having a blocker is nice? I am not impressed.

Play round 0 over and over again and *** your opponent off XD

It's more that 'pseudo' haste or flash because you can play it after using your mana to drop a creature, swing and appearing defenceless. I'd much rather seea 3/3 token for a 4CMC pact - that way you could rely on it being the end note of a high tempo attack... 5CMC means it is too likely to end up being a third rate defensive trick.

Turn 1: Plains, Pact of Titan x 4
Turn 2: Angel's Grace, Mountain, Assault Strobe
Swing for 20.

Granted, you need a lucky hand, and a mountain as your first draw, but any smaller variation is still pretty intimidating. As long as you have the plains and Angel's Grace, you can still start with anywhere from 1 to 4 Giants to flaunt.

Seems like a good spell. Tap out for something, they swing, cast this for free and slay their attacker in combat, then pay 5 next turn.

Player 1: Ok, I'm on the play. Erm. Swamp, Dark Ritual, Dark Ritual, Dark Ritual, Yawgmoth's Bargain, draw 19 cards, exile Simian Spirit Guide, Pyretic Ritual, Pyretic Ritual, Fervor, Pact of the Titan X 4, Attack, Memnite X 3, Galvanic Blast.
Player 2: :O

I think Wizards realized the potential problems of printing Pact of Lightning. :)

Who cares about the 4/4 - Just throw it in a deck with Hive Mind and watch people lose when they can't pay all of the mana.

This could be pretty good with Populate.

Catch your opponent by surprise with Wake the Reflections and Druid's Deliverance,
and you might turn the board situation in an instant (or in this case, two).
