@Sharduk: No, the sacrifice is an additional cost to cast the spell. Once you can respond, it's already been paid and the goblin is gone.

Remember kids, cards like Phyrexian Metamorph and Adaptive Automaton (naming Goblin subtype as it enters the battlefield) make for good grenades too! Also hilarious new artwork.
I would have liked a hommage to the likely most remarkable artwork for most players, the one with the cunning badass from Ron Spencer. But i guess that's not how our Goblins are like these days. Christopher Rush comes closer to that concept: Manically laughing while facing their certain death.
But the new art is nice too. With a remarkably more passive and less voluntary nature than the ones from Fallen Empires :D
The fact that the Goblin's feed aren't tied up just adds to the fact how some of his "pals" randomly decided to bind him up and stuff some explosives in his mouth to get some quick additional offense.

This was the first card I ever looked at and thought was broken... 3 of these/ 3 goblin arsonist, a couple pings from a Goblin Fireslinger and thats game in under 8 mana... I guess we will see.

I find it so lovely that a well designed goblin deck will usually BENEFIT from the goblin sacrificed for this, creating a no-downside situation with this one-mana powerhouse. This card crushes egos and wins games. So happy to see it back. 5/5.

It's the worst feeling when you actually quell the goblin assault and are a turn away from winning, but you're opponent has a hand full of cards. Happened to me at an FNM. I sided boarded in my Slagstorms and killed his entire army on turn 4. I'm at 15 life, he's at 20. 3 Turns later, he's at 4 and i'm still at 15 and I have a frost titan ready to wreck face. He plays Memnite Kuldotha Rebirth Goblin Grenade Goblin Grenade Goblin Grenade

@Sharduk No paying costs do not use the stack and can not be responded to. You can cast an Instant or activate an ability in response to the damage though.

Amazing Card, used with Goblin Arsonist it turns into a 1 turn, RR nuke
I'm just sad that it's pretty much useless post-rotation in Standard. For 3 months I had the best deck out there besides my friend's Tempered Steel. Now I traded for his Tempered Steels, he only plays EDH, and I'm stuck trying out a RUG Werewolf deck since I was too stubborn to get Chandra's Phoenixes when they were cheap. Yeah, sucks. But it DID get me 4 and 5 at GP Pittsburgh!

For those who enjoy some card theory, do you think the main reason why some might not rate this a 5 star card is because it is a sorcery and not an instant? Certainly you can’t get mad at the sac goblin as part of its cost otherwise we’d be on our way to a lightning bolt on steroids. Would it be fair if Goblin grenade remained the same but was an instant instead of sorcery? For me, this card feels just right the way it is :)

This in the 1st main phase and brimstone volley in the 2nd is brutal, especially if you do it more than once:) also helps to use goblin arsonist as the sacrificed goblin for the extra damage.

I hope this is reprinted forever. As long as planeswalker cards are in every set. Yes, I'm jealous and vindictive. I have no planeswalkers of my own, so let me destroy yours by throwing goblins at them.
Turn 1: training grounds Turn 2: flamekin Turn 3: use ability 3 times for 8 red; drop izzet and 1-cmc goblin; goblin grenade and copy with guildmage 3-4 times ... 20-25 damage
May not be able to get all cards necessary for this very often (the first 9 cards of the deck have 16.5% chance of containing all the cards necessary for the above combo), but even with a few you can still wreak havoc; not to mention having beefy elementals/copyable sorceries as a backup.
So good in Goblin Decks. So good in Mono Red decks. 5/5 5/5 5/5 all day err day

This card seems innocent and harmless. You think that a 2 for 1 trade to deal 5 damage isn't too impressive until your opponent attacks you and post-combat casts one or two of these to finish you off. Not to mention, a lot of goblins trigger additional effects when they die. Tuktuk the Explorer and Goblin Arsonist to name a few.

It still bugs me that burn decks don't use this. They use goblin guide and if they simply use ONE more playset of efficient goblins they can easily use 2-3 of this. Spike Jester seems reasonable given the haste, the goblin, and the fact that it almost straight up replaces hellspark in the same slot.

add a soulbright flamekin to the mix: you're looking at turn 3 death.
