I like the art a lot, but the flavour text is pretty silly despite being quite fun. Surely Szadek of all people is intelligent enough to recognise how predictable his guild's real purpose was? As for the card itself, it does its job well but I find it somehow lacking some key spark of fun shared by both Millstone and its variants, and Traumatize.

Sorry Deathtamoor, but Isochron Scepter only works with instants. (Unless you were joking, in which case, WHOOOOOSH)

That said, this is a fabulous mill card. Use with Mind Funeral and Mesmeric Orb for the win!

SICK CARD

I agree, this would be a good "scepter" card.. to bad though, right?

How ever, If you can muster 5 colorless mana, (impossible, I know) then you can try to just "Panoptic Mirror" this card. Its basically the same thing..
For 2 colorless mana each turn (if you can dodge anti-affinity) by the time you cast 3 copies of the imprinted Glimpse the Unthinkable your average cost for the Mirror and all subsequent spells is 2.75.
5 + 2 + 2 + 2 = 11
11 / 4 = 2.75

..not too far off from "third cast" on Isochron Scepter.

Hard investment.. But think about it this way, if your mirror gets destroyed that's 7 years bad luck for your opponent..

P.S. Szadek is the dude being quoted in the flavor text.. I don't think its about him.. who ever he is

Well a lot of people say that Glimpse of the Unthinkable and other milling cards such as Oona are rigged. But I disagree. Something to trivial is that a person has sixty cards and in most cases 20 life--if you can deal enough damage or do a one turn kill milling dosen't matter except the turn 3 combo win that uses milling. 20 is less than sixty, so it is easier in some cases to kill life. But my deck black/blue combines deck milling and revealing your hand and discarding cards, so in turn, it can ensure a win. But counters are a problem my deck sucks against--so I use Dread Return, Recover, and Raise Dead--which is good against destruction of creatures and plain out death. Removal is of high risk and against most decks is a pretty big foe. So take my advice and if you operate milling use x4 of Glimpse and combine your milling deck with Duress.

@ John-Bender

I don't think it's been replaced by Nemesis of Reason because it still needs to attack after you played it. Before you get to do that your opponent can remove it somehow, enchant it (with Pacifism for example) or do whatever else to it.
Glimpse the Unthinkable can only be avoided by countering it (or changing the target of the spell which would be even more frustrating ^^) otherwise it'll happen!

I'm a huge fan of sorceries as you see...^^

@ John Bender

What are you talking about dude? You are comparing to different things. Creature vs Sorcery. are you out of your mind? how in the world can you say that Nemesis of Reason replaced Glimpse the Unthinkable.

i agree with Schlappi.

I run all four glimpse the unthinkable in my deck and no nemesis of reason, and as a matter of fact i dont even need him/her. Creatures are easy to remove REMEMBER.

I rather run with Hedron Crab instead of Nemesis of Reson. Give me a break!!!

I once bought a pack of Magic that came packaged with about 30 random cards, and I was lucky enough to get a copy of this bad boy! :)

But anyways, I'm not sure which is better this or Nemesis of Reason. Glimpse cost 3 less. But Nemesis is a multi use mill. But Nemesis does have to attack first.

5 stars anyways

The fact that this card costs about $70 for 4 on eBay kind of makes me want to jump off a bridge.
A good, cheap, milling card that can finish a game with the right deck. Just wish it was an instant.

use this with Megrim, you just won for 5 mana
havoc2.0
☆☆☆☆☆ (0.0/5.0)
WRONG!!!

Megrim does NOT work with Glimpse the Unthinkable because Megrim only triggers when your opponent discards cards (from their hand). Milling is NOT discarding.

Also, Isochron Scepter (aka "the Stick") Does NOT interact with
Glimpse the Unthinkable because the imprint ability on
Isochron Scepter clearly states an INSTANT.
Glimpse the Unthinkable is a SORCERY. Sorceries aren't quite instants.

So, no Glimpse the Unthinkable with Megrim, and no Glimpse the Unthinkable on a Stick.

This flavor text is sick! It speaks about the inconceivable and unthinkable evil, madness and POWER that embodies the spirit of the House Dimir. Sure, every once in a while some Average Joe in Ravnica would know about the guild, but its mind would literally shred apart when they find out the scope of this evil organization.

Kinda like the Wikileaks scandal in the US Army in these days, just that they aren't as bad-as$ as House Dimir.

Any Dredge deck builder who thinks "OMG this is the perfect card for my deck" inevitably goes through the five stages of Glimpse the Unthinkable Grief:
1. Denial. "It's okay that this card just gets dredged into my graveyard most of the time. When I draw it, it's going to be killer."
2. Anger. "WHY DO YOU COUNTER THIS EVERY SINGLE TIME I TRY TO PLAY IT"
3. Bargaining. "Well, four was too many, but maybe I can keep one or two in the deck, as a surprise?"
4. Depression. "...doesn't replace Breakthrough, doesn't replace Careful Study, doesn't even replace Tireless Tribe well, there's nothing left in the deck to try to swap out for it anymore..."
5. Acceptance. "Hey Jerry, I'll trade you eight rares for one -- four Glimpse the Unthinkable and four Memory Plunder for your Baneslayer..."

such a great, great card.
absolutely a staple of UB mill decks, especially with something like haunting echoes.

i wish i had a playset of these, since that's 40 cards milled for 8 mana, which is absolutely insane.
i originally ran a mono blue mill deck/counter deck, because i didn't have enough black cards for it; this and circu, dimir lobotomist changed it to UB

I doubt they'll reprint this in Avacyn Restored - it's supposed to be about the good guys winning - but who knows. I was disappointed they didn't reprint it in Dark Ascension, but I suspect they didn't because they thought it would be too powerful. There is a lot of milling in Standard right now, and they probably didn't want to make it TOO easy. This would fill up your own graveyard very efficiently to bring them all back with Zombie Apocalypse or something, and a playset of this and two Snapcaster Mages would mill your opponent to death all by themselves.

What would yall think if they basically reprinted this card (if ever) to only cost 2 blue mana? I think it would be nifty since it seems wizards wants to make the milling mechanic exclusive to blue mages and we need a powerhouse mill card for standard. Let me here some opinions...

Who downvoted TimmyForever? Making a politics joke/statement seems valid for a card like this. If he'd said George Bush, I bet'd he'd have gotten 5 stars. :P

And yeah if they don't reprint this in RtR the only reason would be if they give us an Even Better Mythic that costs more, but in addition to driving you insane, it runs over your dog, leaves a horse head on your pillow, eats your girlfriend, then kicks you in the nuts and in general makes you wish you were in The Dragon's Dungeon instead.

Mind Sculpt makes me think that's more likely than Reprinting this, since even Tome Scour makes it seem less special than it's glory days. We are getting an Evil Badass Spell that Was Never Cast, by the Wizard Who Never Lived, during the Duel that Never Took Place though. We'd seriously better >;D

A super solid mill spell, and just what BlueBlack loves to see, being one of their specialties and all. It's terribly overpriced right now though, and could definitely use the reprint in Gatecrash—if not "Sinker"—to hopefully bring it into an affordable range for everyone.

For those of you saying this shouldn't be reprinted because of Snapcaster Mage, what are you complaining about; I thought mill was supposed to be a "weak" archetype? Might want to take that back, eh?

@Bulhakas:
It's not undercosted. It's about the same strength as Lightning Bolt, except it costs two mana, each a different color. At rare, no less.

Unfortunately it didn't see a Gatecrash reprint, but Dragon's Maze may still contain this. It's said to have all ten guilds represented in a small set, so who knows. I do know that the Cipher ability in Gatecrash is about to be heavily abused by me though. Oh, hello Invisible Stalker. What's that? You have a Cackling Counterpart behind you? You don't say!
Stolen Identity for even more hexproof/unblockable madness? Okay.
Paranoid Delusions (which also has the same exact mana cost as Glimpsy here), to mill three per turn, guaranteed? Okay.
Whispering Madness to dig deeper into your own deck whilst milling even more deviously? Super dee freaking duper!

I'd love to see a reprint as well, just don't see it happening with Snappy Mage in rotation. Far too powerful for standard. 3 Glimpse and 3 Snappys is 60 cards worth of mill alone. Compound that with other mill and your opponent drawing cards and you may well only need two of each for a mill win. I doubt Wotc wants that kind of mill power in standard. They never have before... But here's to hoping they prove me wrong, cuz I'd love to crack a few of these in Maze... or Modern Masters maybe? Doubt that too tho...

I feel like even with snapcaster in standard it would still be fine. Even with them together in standard you would only see the combo once per game if you were lucky, and the rest of the mill in the format is way to slow and much of it is bad compared to how fast the environment is. If it started getting over powered Golgari would start getting really strong, really fast against them and you could easily sideboard in elixirs in any deck, or even tormods crypt if the mill deck had creatures based on your graveyard. The two cards really make a difference in a dedicated mill deck.

I pray this get's reprinted in Journey into Nyx. I think it would finally make mill viable, rather than just printing 5 drops who have a focus on mill but aren't fast enough to actually make it worth while. And it would make plenty of sense with Ashiok around in the story. Hell it would go great with Breaking in standard right now, there was once a standard that had both Shock and Bolt, so why can't mill have Glimpse and Breaking?

☆☆☆☆☆ (0.0/5.0)
This is a rare because a card that does absolutely nothing except mill is terrible in draft. Look at all the color shifting cards and other incredibly specialized cards. Almost all of them are rares to stop them from being too common in drafts. This also helps wizards keep "good" and "rare" from being synonymous. That said, since this is specialized and good, it definitely needs to be reprinted.

I would also like to note that it takes 7 bolts to kill, while 5 of these will generally do the trick.
