Some budget decks could use this to boost storm count...

Oh man, how awesome would this be with retrace abilities? All retrace costs would effectively be 1 less.

If you want to play a seriously unorthodox deck, have a ton of retrace in your deck with a bunch of extra land
Step 1, cast this card.
Step 2, Traumatize yourself.
Step 3, suprise your opponent with cheaper boots to the face.
Not my stype of deck but it could be effective and suprising.

I think it's perfect in almost every deck! :-) I use Last Gasp and Rune Snag a lot - perfect for those already 'cos they're cards you need to save mana for!
I want it...! xD

would be awesome if you could go below 0 CC, and have spells give you mana to cast :P
Synergistic with Toshiro Umezawa, as the spell you're playing is already in the graveyard.

Doesn't reduce retrace cost if it is the only copy in your graveyard, as stated in the rulings.

One or two of these in the Pyromancer Ascension deck that floating around in Extended right now might not be a bad idea at all.

Since Sprout Swarm can have its buyback cost reduced via convoke, I presume Locket of Yesterday also reduces buyback, kicker, and other type of cost if the condition meets.
That said, the Locket can also reduce your X spells cost.

Good synergy with Remembrance and having 4 copies of your creatures, especially if those cards have effects when they enter.

combo this with myr retriever and any card with an effect triggered by artifacts or creature comes into play... lots of combo potential.

This thing is such a key combo piece for a lot of my decks...
I think a lot of you are missing this ruling: "The spell being cast doesn't reduce its own cost, even if you're casting it from a graveyard. At the time the cost is reduced, the spell is on the stack."
Still a good card, it just doesn't break Flashback or Retrace.
I love quirky cards like this. I can think of a bunch of decks where this would be useful. Dredge comes to mind.

people don't realize multiple copies of this card can reduce costs a lot. i mean, if you have 2 copies of this artifact and 2 copies of the card in the graveyard, the spell will cost 4 less. that's a lot.

Goes great in a Relentless Rats deck. (Hard to believe no one posted this until now.)
Edit: Scratch that. Posted, just not linked.

Interesting synergy with Buyback.
Hear me out. This reduces spell costs. Buyback costs are spell costs. With 3 Clockspinnings in your graveyard you get to Buyback for . Suddenly, infinite storm count if you pair it with a Gemstone Array, and this only requires a few cards in your graveyard and in play.

Does no one else find themselves thinking 'Dredge'? Maybe not competitive, but as a casual thing, playing a Golgari Grave-Troll for one hard green is tempting.

Lots of cool combos here, but my favorite is Mesmeric Orb. In self-mill, or even in an offensive mill deck (My not combine the two!) This could allow you to cast some crazy large spells. Mind Grind Seems perfect here!
