this, or sleight of hand. Instant vs knowing both cards. one draws for everything that (Hoofprints of the Stag) likes you drawing. And one doesnt draw for everything that (Underworld Dreams)doesnt like you drawing.

Ponder beats this hands down. Still, Ponder is a much younger card, so that's not this card's fault.

@sir_dwar: This one gives you the option to put a useless card on the bottom of your library; Ponder does not. Also, this can be played at instant speed.

with the apparent evergreening of scry with Augury Owl, they really should just reformat this to say:

Scry 1.

Draw a card.

whether they evergreen scry or not(because they only said it was a possibility) they should still shorten it to a more easily readable text line
anyways, it would be cool if they reprinted this. i know its not as good as a lot of things but i like it more than ponder and it cantrips

Preordain is strictly better than this.

Preordain and ponder are sorceries, this isn't. Debating whether or not to throw this in a permission deck. Regardless preordain and ponder are automatically out for my goals (not that they couldn't be in certain other types of permission decks).

Preordian is not strictly better, because opt is an instant.

"We need alternatives!" Hanna yelled. "Gerrard, now!"

Scry doesn't seem to be evergreen. It only showed up in Magic 2011.

Preordain and Ponder strictly better than this? Maybe you guys should look harder and check those two are sorceries and this is instant

This was used extensively in Invasion block constructed and even after that, as it is a cheap way to get rid of your undesired top draw at instant speed. Use it with other draws such as Fact or Fiction to help you get the combo cards you need

This is a good draw spell for anyone splashing blue with just U for its casting cost

Why do people keep saying "ponder" and such. This is an instant. If you know how to play blue at it's best, as it was meant to be played as it were, then you NEED instant speed. Instant speed means you leave your mana open for a counterspell of some kind, if they don't play something you want to counter, you just start card drawing. The only reason stuff like this can't make it in vintage is:
-Brainstorm
-"Free" counterspells (meaning no reason to leave mana open if you'd rather draw now => higher drawing power)

Instant speed makes or breaks draw cards. New kids on the block at sorcery speed are what it takes to make a sorcery speed one even compete. Note also that it does clear the way of up to two cards. Even if neither is what you needed this fixes the next two problems you may have had.

A year ago I got this and didn't know what I was doing so I stopped using it. Now I use it because it blows Ponder and such out of the water.

One of the best instant speed card draws that doesn't incur a card disadvantage. (Honestly, sometimes this is better than Brainstorm. Let the litany of curse words be hurled at me..)

Run this with Force Spikes (or similar one cost counters) and know what true power is.

Perfect to casting a Miracle spell during an opponent's turn

So why does Hanna always wear her goggles on her shoulder?

Should've been in the Izzet deck. With Djinn Illuminatus, it becomes:

{X}
X can only be paid with blue mana
Look at the top X cards of your library. You may put any number of these cards on the bottom of your library, observing the order in which they were originally drawn.
Draw X cards.

x4 of these would make a great team with x4 force spike. T1 island, spend island on their turn to counter or draw.

If they updated the wording to "Scry 1, then draw a card," more people would realize just how good this is as an instant.

So, since it's not been errata'd to "Scry 1", does it still trigger Flamespeaker Adept?
