O.O There's no way I'm reading the card right. I've looked over the text ten times, but there's no way I'm reading this thing right. It's too good. Not even mythic? Have I become dyslexic?

this definitely says "build me around Cradle of Vitality" if you can get a creature to ten power with both cards out victory could be assured.

The Win Condition with this card comes easily with three cards in particular...

Mossbridge Troll (Creature) (Because of the ability to tap power 10 from your creatures to give him a +20,+20)

Mighty Emergence (Enchantment) (5 or greater come into play with two extra +1, +1, not counting doubles)

And

Retaliator Griffin (Creature) (If u have enough life, and keep getting attacked to your life, his constant +1,+1's you recieve keep upgrading the enchantment)

Just be careful, mono white celestal purge gets rid of this card with ease, as well as the Griffin, so keep your eyes open...

Other than that, great card

As long as you can manage the mana base (easy enough with all the new double/triple lands) this card is extremely broken with Wall of Blood.

All you need is some green/white life gain cards in your hand, instant life gain (putting you over 20) on your untap step, ramp your wall up over 20 power, and instant good game.

Is it just me or does most of the Alara block seem broken? Just for the +1/+1 effect alone this card should at least cost 4, not to mentions its crazy other effects. So many alara cards are just making all the other blocks seem like horse manure, it almost feels like im being forced to buy these new cards as the old ones are just pitiful in compare.

This card can be usefull since if you can scare you opponent enought is might force him to use a ring of oblivion or a maelstrom pulse on it. and it will force him to react

But other wise it would give you a bonus at around turn 6 at the earliest in a realistic scenario.

Let say you have a deck build around using Mayael as soon as possible.

Turn 1 : Forest + Bird of paradise
Turn 2 : Plain + Wooly Thoctar but if your opponent is smart he will terminte, path to exile, ring of oblivion, flame javelin, 2 shock... ect your woolly thoctar. And considering that wooly thoctar is a 5/4 on turn 2 they will probably kill him a away or an other.
Turn 3 : Mountain + Mayael's Aria

So yeah if your lucky then maybe you could benefit at turn 4. but let's be realistic you'll need to come out with a new creature because no player a ready to fight a wooly thoctar before turn 5 so they will path to exile or terminate him or block with a 1/1 then agony warp him... and if your opponent let your woolly thoctar survive you have a freaking 5/4 ready to attack on turn 3 you don't need Mayaeal to win just attack and swarm him Knight of new alara would be better then Mayael's Aria since the knight will be targeted by path to exile before the wooly thoctar so he will save your woolly thoctar life.
so let be realistic here :

So on turn 3 (with 4 mana) you'll need to drop a new creature personnaly I like the Steward of Valeron (2/2 vigilance that if you tap give G mana to your mana pool) and Bant sureblade (3/2 first strike)
Turn 4 (with 5 mana) you could drop Uril the miststalker at less he's immune to the spell your opponent control, just wish your opponent do not use wrath of god or Scourglass
Turn 5 you can drop your Mayael's and you have 2 mana left for what ever you want (I like to use Sangrite Backlash on my Uril to make him a 10/4)
Turn 6 Mayael start giving bonuses (+1/+1 to all your creature and 10 life if you used the Sangrite Backlash) and you have on the field 1 bird of paradise (1/2), 1 steward of Valeron(3/3), 1 Uril (11/5) and Bant sureblade (4/3) IF your opponent didn't killed anything. Drop a behemoth sledge equip it to Uril and swing with him for 13 trample-lifelink damage)

But on turn 6 with the PERFECT CARDS IN YOUR HAND with almost no defense to protect you against your opponent creature I think it's a little bit late, but if you managed to survive you should be good.

Will this trigger every my upkeep or only if I have creature with power 5+? So if I have creature with power <5 can I give it Giant Growth so I get the counters?

I play this in my Naya deck now with Apocalypse Hydra and Mycoloth. Pretty awesome. It's not too hard to get the conditional win with Apocalypse Hydra, especially if you are using any kind of mana acceleration. And the counters accelerate how many babies Mycoloth pumps out each turn and makes them beefier. I do agree with comments on how this card seems too uber, but I play with it anyway. :)

I'm surprised that no one has pointed out that a Devoted Druid can make a Quillspike infinitely large until end of turn. You can win a multiplayer game in turn five.

Recently played a casual game with 6 of my friends. Had a mycoloth, Battlegrace Angle, mayrael's Aria, and a cradle of vitality out. Ended up getting near to 200 life before the game ended. Having a 44/44 mycoloth dual wielding mageslayers + near 100 saporling + knotvine paladin has its perks even when ure Aria gets exiled. no kill like over kill.

A lot of you guys are idiots. You can't have this out on the field and the minute you get a creature with power 20 or greater and automatically win the game. You have to already have it out (the creature) AT THE BEGGINING OF YOUR UPKEEP.

Unfortunately the other post is right, its on upkeep, an until end of turn power boosts wont trigger it. That having been said, there are several very very easy ways to make that happen, but the easiest one is apocalypse hydra, as long as its counters you add are more than 5 it doubles to 10, but it doesn't stop at 10 either. If you can pay at least enough to get 10, you can cast soul's might on it either immediately or during the next turn for a 20/20 creature. Feral hydra will also do, it can increase its own counters. On top of that, doubling season can signifigantly ramp up any creature to 20/20 in no time, your feral hydra would gain 2/2 per 3 mana, your mighty emergence would gain 4/4 instead of 2/2, and your apocalypse hydra would come into play as a 20/20.

Mayael's aria, doubling season, apocalypse hydra played with 7 mana = game win on next upkeep.

I think its a nice benefit to naya since a lot of "spikes" out there will do anything to win and this can short cut there plan, vs those of us that play for fun, I like to play with big naya creatures but blue/black decks still drive me nuts with all the countering and doom blades. I'm more of a "johnny" type player myself.

the winning condition makes it too strong. One reason why it's always useful to have an enchantment-destroying spell in deck

If the mana requirements weren't such a nightmare, this would be monstrous with Dark Depths and Vampire Hexmage.

A very, very, very good card for a predominantly green Naya deck when playing as the emperor in an Emperor game.

Turn 1: Birds of Paradise + Forest
Turn 2: Mayael's Aria + Plains/Mountain
Turn 3: Master of the Wild Hunt + land
Turn 4: Mycoloth (devouring Birds and wolf token) + land

After that, it's more or less elementary. A wolf every turn, 4 saprolings, all of them getting 1/1 counters and soon enough 10 health a turn - not to mention you get an extra saproling for each aria counter you get.

Having said that, one Day of Judgement/Wrath of God and your hard work is undone, so I find Eldrazi in the deck is a good idea even though you won't actually get much use out of it until one of your generals die. On the plus side, because you have just so many of them you can guilt-free send saprolings to your generals and hopefully let them live long enough for Aria's win condition to kick in.

In normal play, if you can have one of these out with a Kalonian Behemoth it works pretty well. The first upkeep after the Behemoth comes out it gets boosted to 10 power, and as such you start getting 10 health a turn. Not too shabby.

Until the end of turn boosters will affect this enchantment, you just need to know when to cast them. If you give your creature '+20/+20 until end of turn' during your opponents end step, it does not fade until your end step, and is thus around for your upkeep, giving you the win.

So if you have this out, its a good time to tap creatures with a power of ten or greater to feed your Mossbridge Troll and win.

EDIT: Nvm, since mossbridge trolls effect is until the end of turn not 'to the beginning of the next end step' i think I'm wrong about that.

★★★★☆ (4.0/5.0) (5 votes)
@klaff: That doesn't matter, as you can activate the boosting ability in response to mayael's aria's ability. The troll's ability will then resolve, giving it +20/+20, and then mayel's aria will check if you have a creature with blah blah power, and give you the bonuses accordingly, and since the troll is over 20 power, you win the game.
In short: The game doesn't check for the creature's power until mayael's ability resolves, thus any temporary boosts cast during your uppkeep will count toward it's ability.

Ways my Mayael the Anima EDH can attempt to win with this card:
-Wait 15 turns
-Activate Mossbridge Troll in response to the trigger
-Lay down a Hamletback Goliath and watch a couple creatures come in
-Activate Living Inferno, targeting itself, with Vigor on the table
-Activate the Scourge of Kher Ridges with said Vigor and another dude around
-Firebreathe Akroma, Angel of Fury in response to the trigger.
It's yet to strait-up win me the game, sadly, but when it's not immediately disenchanted the +1/+1 counter on all my guys and the 10 life per turn usually allows me to win through savage beats :P
Also, does anyone else wonder what the song sounds like?

I recently noticed that this Scute Mob fits quite nicely in a deck with this. Play Scute Mob with Mayael's Aria on the field. next upkeep: Scute Mob becomes a 5/5 (given you have 5 lands) then Mayael's Aria makes him a 6/6. next upkeep: Scute Mob becomes a 11/11 and you gain 10 life, and if you happen to have a Cradle of Vitality on the field at the time you win the game right there, 2 turns after Scute mob hit the board. Even without Cradle of Vitality, your opponent has at max 4 turns to stop you.

Turn 2: Plains: Mayael's Aria
Turn 3: Grove of the Burnwillows: Kavu Predator Tap Grove of the Burnwillows and Birds of Paradise to play Wall of Shards, play Skyshroud Cutter. Kavu Predator is now an 9/9 ( + 7/7 for each other opponent after 1)
Turn 4: (4 players you win) +2/2 for Mayael's Aria and Wall of Shards. Tap Grove of the Burnwillows. Play another Skyshroud Cutter. Kavu Predator is now 18/18
Turn 5: +3/3 for Mayael's Aria and Wall of Shards. YOU WIN!

Most people miss the best thing about this card. It's not the potential for combo, it's not the alt-win condition, it's synergy with the other Naya cards in the block.

The true value of this card is the same as Teneb, the Harvester, the same as Marit Leige as obtained from Dark Depths. It's not about winning or losing. It's about doing it SPECTACULARLY. Yes, I'm hitting you in the face with a 24/24 Teneb. It's cool that you locked me down, I win in three turns with Mayael. 20/20 turn three, problem?

I don't really feel like searching to see if someone mentioned this but Copperhoof Vorrac goes with this very nicely in commander free-for-alls. If you're really that afraid of your 3-5 opponents actually tapping enough to keep it under 20/20 or destroying the enchantment because they know what's coming, just have Yeva, Nature's Herald on the field and flash it in and the end of the turn of the person going before you.

Anyone know how this card interacts with Primordial Hydra? Because I just played a game (against myself--sigh) that went a little something like this...And yes, this was an absurdly lucky hand for commander.

Turn 1: forest, Llanowar Elves
Turn 2: forest, Abundant Growth
Turn 3: mountain, Mayael's Aria + Harvest Druid
Turn 4: forest, Primordial Hydra as a 3/3
Turn 5: Primordial Hydra is 6/6 (assumed that it doubled in size after Aria would've decided to put a counter on it--is that right?--so no counter from the Aria), play Doubling Season
Opponent's turn 5: play Hunger of the Howlpack after blocking and eating a soldier, Hydra is 12/12
Turn 6: Hydra gains 2 tokens from Aria x Doubling Season (14/14) and then quadruples in size from its own ability x Doubling Season (56/56)--which may or may not be the right order of operations (if it went quadruple, add instead, I'd have a piddly 50/50). But in either case, I win by the time the third part of the Aria rolls around, without dealing any damage to my opponent (myself). Woo.

The problem is that both the Aria and the Hydra's ability happen "at the beginning of your upkeep." So...?
