I really love this card!

I do have some points of criticism, though:

- This should have been mythic. I mean, how is this not mythic??? It fulfills all standards of a good mythic. It's huge, it's superflavorful, it's anything but a utility card, anything but an upcoming 4-of standard staple. Sure, this card will never be expensive, and it's not even as powerful as Darksteel Colossus or Blightsteel Colossus, but who says mythics need to be walletbreakers?

- This should be legendary!!! Come on, there is only one Akros, and you can't tell me they have more then one of these?? Not to mention it would have been a yanky but oh so cool and challenging commander! This would have been only the second colorless artifact creature commander after Karn, Silver Golem. (Bosh, Iron Golem counts as red, and Memnarch as blue.).

HEEEEEEEERE'S TIMMY!

Woo, suck it Emrakul! Biggest... nontoken set power... thing? I mean, it uses +1/+1 counters, but only a specific amount... this bigness is hard to categorize.

In a neat twist, the Heroes vs. Monsters printing of Anax and Cymede has a comment by DarthParallax saying 'This is Akros!' It having been placed there to randomly link up with a page after the Gatherer was updated. He posted it before this card was spoiled which makes for a neat coincidence considering how awesome and huge this creature is in reference to the city. haha

They EASILY could have made this mythic and no one would have called them out on it. Still, this is a VERY sweet card and casual players are going to eat it right up.

I literally burst out laughing when I saw this card. Because a 10/10 indestructible defender for 8 wasn't big enough. I guess now decks that want to chain Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx have something to do with all that mana, even if they're not running green fatties or powering a 20-damage Fireball.

Guardian of the Ages' self esteem was really hurt by everyone insulting its abilities, so it ran off to a distant plane and joined the military.

Also, this is gonna be REALLY COOL in EDH.

I was already looking forward to Monstrosity as an ability, but when they revealed this...

...I died a little inside from the sheer Timmy. Because I'm totally okay with paying 18 mana for a 20/20 Trampling Indestructible killdozer.

I suppose it's fitting that history's original Colossus be paid tribute in a set focusing on the region it came from. Shame how Darksteel Colossus is more or less fully obsoleted between this guy and Blightsteel, though.

Oh my god Wizards...

I've tried to be a good player. A spike, a johnny....you just keep on printing stuff that makes me come back to......WHO I REALLY AM! A TIMMY!

The beefiness of this creature aside. It's actually quite powerful provided you're able to cast it, and of course, trigger the monstrosity thing. Then again, you'd need to center your deck around this and other super big guys like, I don't know, Eldrazis?

First we get an indestructible 11/11 for 11. I thought that was cool. But they just HAD to update into a creature that gives you 11 poison counters in one swing, for one mana more.

Then we get a 15/15 for 15. I thought that was as close to a 20/20 for 20 we were ever going to get. But Colossus of Akros is actually closer. This thing is a 20/20 for 18. And that mana can be spread over two turns.

Can fight Gods, Eldrazi (which are plane destroying psuedo-gods), Insta Gib Planeswalkers (you and your PW cards) and win; with almost nothing to stop it.

I was pretty sad when I pulled this while building my R/B aggro deck at the prerelease, because I knew I'd never get to play him.

But then I remembered I have a Jhoira of the Ghitu deck..... and a Rakdos, Lord of Riots deck..... and a 5-color counters deck with Doubling Season and Corpsejack Menace in it....... I mean, hey, what kind of Timmy wouldn't want to swing with a 50/50 Indestructible Trampler??

I played this one sealed tourney early release weekend. In a long game (or one where you can ramp, i.e. with green mana generators) it sure does discourage ground attacks once in play, even if you can't pay the monster cost.

Once I did in a long game, it was just sick. With the 20/20 trample and indestructable, the defender can give up his army or stall for a bit (like with fog effects) and then just die.

I do wish people would quit commenting to play "Destroy Creature" cards for this...

Finally, if playing with green, a Ranger's Guile for G (for example) defends it nicely against exile spells.

I guess I'm a Timmy at heart, but this just screams for a way to make it playable late game.

@salient: Those aren't houses. Those are scale temples.

I picked up a copy of this in for my Melek EDH, because I run a lot of CMC-dependent burn. In a 4-way game vs. Sigarda, Zedruu and Oona, I got milled out 2/3 of my deck and my mill-safe cards were exiled, so I needed to swing with this guy. They couldn't really stop it. When the Oona guy was killed and the Zedruu guy conceded, the Sigarda guy (who had paid so much life to his Sylvan Library to get to his combos) scrambled to cast enough blockers for it.

I Obliterated the next turn.

Oh, this is not good... I can feel the chill of death approaching in the wind... She will rise from Her Dark Depths to curse the one who challenges Her wicked, absolute power! MARIT LAGE does not tolerate the weak to live!!
-Its scorched remains, after a foolish attempt to steal Her power from on high with its laughable Fleetfeather Sandals, will always remind me of that beach scene from Planet of the Apes: "You maniacs!... You blew it up! Argh, d*mn you... g*d d*mn you all to Hell!"

So, I just secured the coolest multiplayer victory of all time the other day with this guy.

See, I was playing a defender deck with overgrown battlements and umbral mantles (which together with three other defenders generate infinite mana), and I had my infinite mana combo set up. I also had six other defenders on the battlefield and an infinite reflection in hand. Then someone played this card. Next turn I tapped my overgrown battlement for infinite mana, cast infinite reflection on the colossus, and activated monstrosity on all of them with my floating mana surplus.

Swinging at five other opponents with seven 20/20 indestructible tramplers for game is a beautiful thing.

Predator's Rapport
with proper green ramp, u should have him out by turn 5, and either turn him monstrous by turn 6 or 7, or gain 20 life and say "go" until you have your 10 mana.

best moment in recent memory:
t1: forest
t2: island, Sylvan Caryatid
t3: forest, pass, opponent casted a Boros Reckoner, which i Plasm Capture.
t4: island, this, lol
t5-t8 -----> ramp, pass, ramp, pass, monstrous, swing, win, lol.

This is one of Emrakul's childhood playthings.
And I greatly respect anybody who can play this and survive long enough to activate monstrosity. Anyone that good at stalling deserves a 20/20 indestructible trampler.

My opponent put him on the board with Rescue from the Underworld. My air force won. In the rematch he pulled the same trick, and made him monsterous. He got one good swing in (but not enough). Portent of Betryal was my follow up trick. I think my opponent is still cussing.

Also, if a 20/20 isn't enough, vorel will make it bigger in a pinch. Giant creatures, onward

Timmy enough to love it. Reasonable enough to not cast it vs. friends who don't have any ways of dealing with it. Seriously, indestructible is a very strong keyword, but also incredibly unfair if your opponents don't have a way of dealing with it.

Thoughts on combos posted:

Fling: WHAT FLUNG IT!? I want THAT creature...
But... O_O Wow, now THAT is a game-ender. Colossus to the face.

Vs. Darksteel Colossus: Punting time.
Vs. Blightsteel Colossus though... only the first hit gets through. (Infect...)
Combine this with Tainted Strike though... {Monstrous} Blightsteel Colossus of Akros. CRAP.

The combos... Sac it for: Lifegain/lifeloss/mana/damage/etc. All at numbers of 10 or 20.

Master Transmuter (LOVE that girl)... pops this down EASY (return the Seat of the Synod you used for the mana). If wielding 4 Training Grounds... Monstrous costs 2. That's 3 mana total after playing Master Transmuter (a turn 4 card at the lastest).

Ok, so I go to my local Target, buy 6 booster packs.
They're contents are the following (Rare's/Mythics)
Pack 1: Elspeth, Sun's Champion (Danced)
Pack 2: Polukranos, World Eater (Shouted for Joy)
Pack 3: Fleecemane Lion (Thanked the Lord)
Pack 4: Fleecemane Lion (Decided to make White/Green Deck)
Pack 5: Spear of Heliod (Making Deck and laughing)
And Pack 6: Colossus of Akros.

Now, at this point, I was on the verge of crying, but upon seeing the Colossus, I just broke down, this is one of my favorite cards, my favorite artifact creature, and favorite monstrosity. Screw Elspeth and Polukranos, this guy puts them to shame, great card, deserves to be Mythic. Theros is my favorite expansion, I love it. 10000 out of 5.

At first I was like..."meh, another Timmy monster."

Then I figured it out. He's not just another Timmy monster. He's the Timmy WARRIOR that FIGHTS all the Timmy Monsters. The Eldrazi, the Leviathans, the Hydra Avatars, they've all been evil over the years. This is the good guy that is meant to throw down with all of them in epic fights. Then of course, once he gets knocked down by their superior size, you pay 10 and he pulls out the BLAZING SWORD, Voltron-style, and cuts **** in half.

So now in my eyes...this is the coolest Timmy guy ever.
