This won't work. Life loss is no damage, and since you can't pay more life than you have, this won't help you that much. Aside from that you'll still need another card to make use of the pumped wall, e.g. Fling.

is simpler than that: rite of consumption

This is an excellent card and let me tell you why. When you're being attacked, the damage is going to take your life points but this lets you lose the same amount of life (or sometimes less.) and take down a creature while you're at it. This is especially awesome when dealing with trample creatures.

Excellent flavour text.

This with animate wall or rolling stones can win the game as long as you have more life than your opponent. Not hard in a black/white deck which it would have to be to even play these cards. (just watch out for fog.)

This is such a shiddy card. How is this getting rated more than a half star?

Id rather spend my life on drawing cards, or even something that could attack!

In any lifegain deck, once you have more life than your opponent, pay as much needed into this and cast any damage spell based on creature's power for the win. Or Surestrike Trident...

This is a crap card. It is made of menstruation and poo.

This is an excellent card! There are quite a few nifty combat tricks you can use with this (anything that makes walls lose defender, anything to make a creature deal damage equal to its power (rite of consumption, fling, soul's fury, etc.). Don't underestimate suicide cards.

The Fling/Rite of Consumption combo would probably benefit from a Children of Korlis as insurance in case of a counterspell.

Brion Stoutarm could make it worth your while, and you'd even get all that lost life back, which is pretty nifty.

Also, Near-Death Experience.

Souls Fire, Fling. You just won. :) Does anyone know a card similar to this? I want to make a deck.

My first tournament deck involved this + Grab the Reins built into a black-red suicide deck. This combo killed them on turn four, when they were tapping out for Astral Slide.

Turn 1: Swamp
Tap Swamp, Dark Ritual
Play Wall of Blood

Turn 2: Plains
Tap Plains, Animate Wall on Wall of Blood
Tap Swamp, Play Unholy Strength
Attack with Wall of Blood, spend 18 life, make it a 20/23 and (hopefully) win

Decent mechanic to win on turn 2, obviously risky. Hopefully opponent would have spend their one mana on something useless to resist this.

Or just swamp and mountain to fling the damn thing

This card is pretty bad on its own, but, judging from the other comments, it can be pretty epic with all sorts of other cards.

hatred is similar, except that you can attack with the creature you're pumping and then do all of those other crazy things mentioned in the comments, though, for only three mana, this creature is deadly.

I hope they eventually print a Demon with this ability.

Rolling stones?

Regarding the flavour text: I don't think that is factually accurate...

Also good with Essence Harvest in multiplayer, in addition to Soul's Fire/Fling/Rite of Consumption as everyone's mentioned. Not only do you get to keep your wall (as opposed to using Fling or Rite) but you also gain back all the life you payed - which, most magically, you can ALSO pay into Wall of Blood. :D

It's really nice, when you're on 13 or so, and someone else is on 12 and someone else again is up at 24-ish, well out of reach, to be able to Essence Harvest the lower-life player to death and then pay HIS life total to pump and kill the bigger guy with Fling. Not too shabby for 5 mana.

But now, sadly, I just want to put this guy in a Borzhov deck with Lifelink, Spirit Loop and Soul's Fire. >.> All aboard the no-friends train.

very cool card; awesome flavor, useful ability, absolutely disgusting, and clearly only blocking off half of what it's supposed to in the picture! What more could you ask for?
