Mechanically, this card is obviously great for Ajani Goldmane (look at Core Set 'signature spells)
The main wierd thing I see about this card...it's from Mirrodin. The plane that's about the most opposite you can think of to Naya's shard of Alara. Maybe some people see past that quickly, and notice how in all other respects the card really does feel very Ajani-ish. It's just...seeing the wonderful work they did on Lightning Helix, I was hoping they would give art for this one that changed it from being an elemental in the Tangle to being a non-metal jungle/forest elemental. Too bad they only get a few art commissions for these decks...
Nice card, I'm just a very picky Vorthos. :P

Love it when I equip my 50/50 with Behemoth Sledge gaining trample.

Wall of Reverence has a new best friend. And lifelink Equipment cards just make things ridiculous.

I don't know who rated TheHandyman's comment less than 5/5, but I'll assume they thought doubling a life total did not count as "gaining life". It does. Check out the rulings on Celestial Mantle if you don't believe me.
@htgtmd: Sylvan Bounty is way too much mana. For a Green/ White deck, Heroes' Reunion: 1G/1W Instant for 7 Life. For a Mono Green deck, have your brother use Nourish: 2G Instant for 6 Life. Equip Lightning Greaves. That will take care of your Slave of Bolas for the time being

I find these are good in my Elf deck alongside of of Wellwishers and Nissas.

I run lifegain but I don't like this card for several reasons:
1) It's just big. No trample, doesn't gain you life and is usually chump blocked every turn. There's plenty of bigger and better stuff. Wolfir Silverheart for example, especially when soulbonded to something with trample (Pathbreaker Wurm?). Wolfir costs the same too.
2) No protection at all and that effect just screams 'Remove me now'. Most effects that beg to be removed do that because they're insane (like Felidar Sovereign) but this one does just cause it's big and people overestimate big things.
3) Doesn't actually gain you any life. I know people are talking about Armadillo Cloak but let's face it, Armadillo Cloak is an amazing card in general and there are many better creatures you can put that on.(something with lifegain already for example so you gain double the life. Again Felidar Sovereign anyone?)
The only use I can really see out of this is to waste your opponents' removal and there's plenty of better ways to do that (Ajani's Pridemate will be killed pretty quickly too. It has the same problems as this card but is playable because it's 2 mana and you want big stuff at 2 mana). Or you can waste 5 mana so your opponent spends 2 to remove it. 2.5/5.

One of my all time favorite creatures and for one simple reason. Wellwisher. In my elf deck, anything less than a 30/30 is small for this green meanie.

I want to curve out Trostani, selesnya's voice into this into progenitor mimic, to produce huge amounts of both life and power.
@Black-Blue: If your life total would double (or be set to a number), you gain or lose the appropriate amount of life to get you to that life total. Definitely works with Beacon

Note: Does NOT work with Beacon of Immortality as that "doubles" your life total. It does not "gain" you life as such.
Also, Elf deck with Wellwisher.
