I guess it's a way to skip Part 1 of an Undying creature. "here just take the *** counter and lets be done with this."

Easy to get value out of with a sac engine, particularly in Ghave EDH.

MrFluffyThing has the right idea here, you put it on the undying creatures after they die and come back, then they are +4/+4 instead of just +1/+1. a 6/5 with haste on turn 3 for GreenGreenGreen is not something to laugh at.

Strictly better than Battlegrowth.

I have to admit that the proceeding comments have swayed my heart toward this card. It still won't see much play beyond limited, but as for it being situationally a worse or better Giant Growth, it does indeed have great synergy with undying. For that alone, it will be a good pick in limited--even if it is then forgotten soon after.

There's a tension in this card... It being an instant and boosting a creature means you'd probably like to play it as a combat trick, like Giant Growth, but Morbid is easiest to pull off if you wait until after combat.

And there's no particular reason to use this with Undying creatures, since it just guarantees they can't come back. If anything, you might even use this against Undying creatures, if they have nasty triggered abilities.

Really sweet in limited. Something dies during your opponent's turn, drop this on a flier or other dude, swing big on your turn. Also a conditional combat trick.

The best thing to do with this is to put it on the spirit you get from doomed traveler. That's a 4/ 4 flier as early as turn 2. That's just awesome in limited. And it's playable in standard.

Use with Primordial Hydra to speed its path to a trample win.

This seems really good with Livewire Lash, especially in conjunction with infect. You just target the creature holding the lash with this, then use the lash's trigger to destroy a blocker. When this resolves, the morbid ability triggers, giving your creature 3 counters. At this point, you have at least a 6/4 to swing with (counting the lash), which is nothing to sneeze at (especially in infect).

This card is just filthy in green infect decks. It turns removal and blocking against the opponent. The Livewire Lash synergy mentioned below is also horrendously nasty.

Great value in DKA. Not only can you use this to prevent an Undying creature from coming back, you can also put it on your own Strangleroot Geist when it rises again (Since, you know, Morbid triggered when it died). That's potentially a 6/5 on turn 3. If you really want to be mean, I'd say play it like this:
Turn 1: Forest, Llanowar Elves
Turn 2: Forest, Strangleroot Geist, Attack (hopefully they chump) and let it die. Cast Hunger of the Howlpack. Bam! 6/5 on turn 2.

A nice compliment/alternative to Travel Preparations.

Surprisingly useful as a removal guard. Someone tries to bolt your Terror of Kruin Pass and you slap a +1/+1 counter on it at instant speed. Effective and flavourful.

The thing I love about this is that you can combine it with a cheap removal spell (Doom Blade or Go For the Throat) to get 3 extra poison counters in an infect deck for {G}! AND it doesn't wear off when the turn's over.

Might just get that Slumbering Dragon to wake up!

i've been using this to give a double boost my guys equipped with Runechanter's Pike. Time it right and your creature gets a permanent +4/+3 for one mana

-Update-
So with Corpsejack Menace out, this can easily give something 6 +1/+1 counters for 1 green. Maybe on a Champion of Lambholt...?

Morbid - because only something horribly dying makes Fathom Mage draw three cards instead of one. Sick girl.

@ zinliah: even better with persist creatures

Love to see this is a deck with Gravetiller Wurm

This is actually really good with burn spells or kill spells. With all the broken removal floating around, I can see a Jund fatty burn deck with this as a star player.

Best buddies with Slumbering Dragon...especially with morbid activated.
