Fairly insane card. I like how it's not very specific as to what the act is. It could have been excessive fapping leading to death for all we know. 4/5

Hmmm. I wonder If this will see play. A median cost of 5 CMC ish is certainly appealing, and very splashable mana cost. The question I have though is what kind of deck is going to want to use it.

Outside of standard though, consider Repercussion. KaBOOOM.

Hard to tell how well this one's going to perform once the meta settles down, but based on the number of token-creating effects, it may be downright playable. Slagstorm's a lot scarier when it costs {R} and could kill a Titan twice over (more, actually).

At the very least, it's probably the most consistent EDH board wipe Red will ever see.

hooray for red board wipes!
In order for this to be somewhat equivalent to Day of Judgment there needs to be 5 creatures on the battlefield. very doable. and more than that is just nice.

Now we just need some good creatures with protection from red, and the shenanigans can begin.

I like the card, since you could play some creatures on your own to get a cheap Wrath effect in red. Play with something with pro-red, for example, or something that likes to die.

Though, this card has one of the most jarring flavor texts of all times. When was death a sanctuary from anything, to begin with? Add in the fact that lots of things from this set can come back (so the graveyard is indeed a safe place to hide scary things, but only in Innistrad specifically), we have a line of flavor text that I just wish wasn't there.

Yes! A red board wipe that doesn't destroy lands! Looks like they're trying to make red better for EDH, at least as a support color. Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind is happy.

Quick math-

0 creatures on the field- 9 mana - Why are you casting this?
1 creature on the field- 8 mana- You must hate that creature. But, that's still cheaper than a fireball/blaze for 13 damage, and gets past shroud (just not protection).
2 creatures on the field- 7 mana- If neither are yours, that's alright, I guess. Just not great.
3 creatures on the field- 6 mana- Still kinda costly, but if none are yours, that's a solid deal.
4 creatures on the field- 5 mana- That's pretty good. I might even throw down some pro-red creatures just to help lower the cost.
5 creatures on the field- 4 mana- Standard wrath mana.
6 creatures on the field- 3 mana- Superior wrath.
7 creatures on the field- 2 mana- You're getting some pretty impressive bang for your buck.
8 or more creatures on the field- 1 mana- Assuming 8 creatures, you're dealing 104 damage for 1 mana.

In a lot of ways, it's similar to Chain Reaction, where it gets better the more creatures there are on the field, but lowering the mana cost while keeping the damage the same makes this card better in my eyes.

between this and Army of the Damned, I'm not sure which is better, but I WILL say this:

All the humans are fucked. :P

The next set is called 'DARK ASCENSION' for crying out loud!

Unless Avacyn turns out to be an Angel Planeswalker in Set 3 as powerful as Nicol Bolas, then I doubt the humans stand a GHOST of a chance.

Completely splashable too!
The only good pro-red creature in red is vulshok refugees, and most of the rest are white.
After the spitemares and Mogg Maniacs, you can include things like Darksteel Sentinel, Mother of Runes, and the family and friends of Nomads en-kor. Also, Mistmeadow Skulk survives this even if you only pay Red.
While playing with Chain Reaction, I have noticed that the only creatures that survive are those designed to do so on my side of the board, but that the RedRed in the casting cost leaves much to be desired.

I was glad to see the rating that people gave this. Those that can't see past the 8Red, think about this: you will NEVER cast it for that cost, EVER. The very max is for a single kill spell is 7Red. After that, this just gets great. It's like the old Affinity spells that are the first to come to mind when someone mentions the word 'broken'. Only for Creatures, and your don't have to control them, and you kill more for less mana. Cards almost never get that type of efficiency, especially in Red, home of the Variable Colorless spells.

Sure, maybe it's not constructed playable, maybe sideboard if token decks take off. But face value (ignoring environment) of the card is 5/5 to me. And EDH is going to love this.

Very satisfying!

Aside from the pure fun of dealing 13 points of damage to every creature, this card can be exploited (Spitemare, Stuffy Doll, etc.) And then there's the funny casting cost, which basically says that the more you want to cast this card, the cheaper it becomes. The ability to possibly wipe the board of creatures for R is really cool!

"Why didn't WOTC use the words "Affinity for creatures" in this card? Does WOTC forget they make these abilities? This is a nice card, I wish Balefire Dragon had Affinity."

Non-evergreen keywords sometimes aren't used if the set doesn't feature that keyword. Since Blasphemous Act would be the only card in Innistrad with Affinity, Wizards prefers to avoid using the keyword so as to not shift focus away from other set themes. Plus, people still have bad memories of Affinity so they tend to avoid that keyword in particular.

One more thing. Affinity only counts permanents you control so Blasphemous Act doesn't quite use Affinity.

Okay, why hasn't anyone mentioned Vigor yet?
Just sit back with a bunch of little guys, and wait for everyone to drop their creatures, then, use this guy, get 13 +1/+1 counters on all of your creatures, watch as their creatures die, then swing for, blarg. Even if Vigor dies, who cares? You have an army of creatures with 13 +1/+1 counters, and if you really want to secure the win, go ahead and use Reverberate and Wrap In Vigor, insuring that all of your creatures end up with 24 of those bad boys.

@Toquinha, no, protection from red will absolutely save a creature from this, because even though it's not targeted, it's doing damage, which protection prevents regardless. People REALLY need to learn protection rules.

A card with protection from X cannot be targeted, blocked, damaged, OR enchanted by anything with the characteristic of X.
Still the world's best target for Hallow.

Been wanting to make a WhiteBlackRed "heretic"-themed deck for some time now, and cards like this really fit the colour identity, as do several other cards in the block. The art itself is quite disturbing--echoes of religious purity coupled with bloody desecration, like something out of Diablo!

I think that I haven't read "multiplayer" yet... In 4 or 5 player, it's so easy to pay only Red to clean the battlefield! I want four! Cheaper than every other Wrath of God version, not more effective but funnier and easier to abuse!

In a duel, after the first, your opponent can play around it and you have to pay about 6Red to destroy a couple of creatures... Not so great anymore! Good, but not extremely good... Better card can be the usual suspects: Pyroclasm, Slagstorm, Volcanic Fallout, Sulfurous Blast (yes, I think it's a good card...), and the new Mizzium Mortars.

I really like these kind of "burn everything" in red, it's the red kind of control! This one in particular is so hilarious! You deal 13 damages to a bounch of 2/2 or 3/3 creatures, more than enought to kill them 3 or 4 times... Talk about overkill!

Beautiful boardwipe that can even be hardcast after severe land destruction most of the time. Combos well with Blazing Shoal due to the high CMC and the ability to bypass it and play this spell at a reasonable price.

The reason that this doesn't have affinity for creatures is because it's not affinity for creatures. affinity only counts things you own. That said, this card remains, in my opinion, the best board sweeper out there. Not strictly better, for a myriad of reasons, but generally better.

The main reason that several competitive decks play this card is that it works extremely well with Boros Reckoner, hitting them in the face for a whopping 13 damage.

Reckoner aside, this is a very powerful board wipe spell because most of the time you will be casting for four or less anyway, and it functions virtually the same as Wrath of God, not counting the regenerate.
