So you finally admit that this is one of the most played cards in EDH, eh Wizards?
That's good, we're making progress. We just have to take it one step at a time... Now, about that Sensei's Divining Top...

I know this won't see standard for a while (if ever again,) but it'd fit so flavorfully into Theros. :(
One of the classics.

i'm amused that people think this would fit into Theros, at all :)
it is a Mono Theistic card, Theros is Poly Theistic. one of the, if not the very first, card whose mere Rules Text WAS the flavor text. regardless of your actual personal religious convictions, it sounds more ominous and imposing and authoritative and powerful to refer to The Divine as One Angry God, than it does to give God a "Name"
"Wrath of Heliod" just isn't as scary. "Wrath of Illuvatar" isn't even as Epic sounding as "Wrath of GOD", because Illuvatar is only the chief Head God and his power is sort of dispersed in all the ainur. And his name is a mouthful. "Wrath of THOR" sounds almost as epic as Wrath of GOD, because at least THOR is a mono-syllable, but you really have to hand it to those Ancient Jews:
giving that Title-As-Name thing, implying that Entire Divinity of All of Creation was contained in a SINGLE WILL, and that will is ONE SENTIENT PERSON, well, that's frankly damn terrifying. good at getting people to listen the *** up when you claim "GOD SPEAKS" :P
I'm only trying to appreciate philological phenomenon about mono-syllabic mono-theistic systems, not trying to step on anyone's toes this time :P basically I'm just saying Mono Theism will always, always be scarier than Poly Theism. And, kind of my definition of "Epic" is "Fear-Love". So Mono Theism is more epic than Poly Theism. Not....not necessarily better. Just it definitely has that *Fear* Factor that really weighs Cosmic Significance to everything.
The more Poly Theistic things get, the more like a Sitcom the history of your gods will read xP Even Thor, who is epic but still has dramatic sitcom crap going on with Odin and Loki xD I guess I'm saying that Sitcoms are the Opposite of Epic because they're just not Scary enough. :P

Heliod isn't worried. He can always make more Clerics.
@Swag_Crow The idea is that you play Tempting Wurm before and let your opponent go without much of a hand for the rest of the game. Even better if you focus onplaying things other than creatures, like counterspells.

@DarthParallax, the term "god" is of Nordic and/or Germanic origin, and is in no way a hebrew word. The Greek gods were essentially sociopathic man-children with no proper sense of consequence, which from a mortal's perspective is rather frightening... The texture of names aside. A monosyllabic, guttural sounding title-esque name might intensify the intimidation factor, yes. Nevertheless, the Lovecraftian pantheon trumps the Judeo-Christian god in terms of the sheer terror of their being imho. This is especially the case given that the Judeo-Christian god is considered compassionate and otherwise fair in the punishment department by (devout) human standards, while the Lovecraftian gods are quite the chaotic entities and fall utterly short of human intellectual compatibility. Again, this is entirely opinion. Perceptions differ from person to person.

This card needs no flavor text. The name, art and effect say absolutely everything you need to know.

I kinda like that Wrath of God doesn't destroy any of the Gods.

Ghostway works well with Wrath of God. Remove your creatures from the game then destroy all creatures. At the end of turn, your creatures come back into play.

Worldfire and Oblivion Manabarbs is a better combo than a Wrath of God Oblivion'd creatures.

Failing that, there's the Opalescence and Parallel Lives-Followed Footsteps with Wake the Reflections if you wanna go the other direction. With added Humility for the lulz.
