Why is this green? if it's gonna be green it should have said: "Spells and Permanents you control have Lifelink."

Yay for lightning bolt? :P If I'm gonna go and pull this prank, I think I'd rather use Furnace of the Rath. May cost 1 more, but I only need red to play it.

Way o no know your magic rules (except you Injuryman, you are correct).
Damage is not loss of life. Loss of life is not damage.
Damage causes loss of life in most cases. Loss of life does not cause damage in most cases.
Damage is preventable. Loss of life is not.
Prevention is the opposite of damage. Life gain is the opposite of loss of life.
Spells and abilities generally magnify damage, not loss of life. Ex: Furnace of Rath
Sanguine bond does not combo for infinite anything off this creature. Sanguine bond requires you gain life to cause an opponent to lose an equal amount of life. It will double the amount of life lost by your opponent, assuming the damage all converted to loss of life.

I'm assuming that if you get Sanguine Bond out with this card it can loop for a win.
*edit* after some study of the rules you guys are correct, Sanguine Bond does not create a loop, however this card works excellently with Manabarbs I really want to make a manabarbs/tamanoa deck now... Pretty much turns manabarbs into "Whenever opponent taps a land for mana, you gain 1 life"
Lavaball trap works nicely too with this card and a load of creatures out...
I don't see why this card doesn't see extensive play...

Nice with spells or enchantments that do damage to you as well as your opponents. Primal Order, Earthquake, Hurricane, Inferno, etc. And Stormbind, because it's a great spell, and either version of Chandra. And the painlands.
Can't believe no one's suggested Skred a card that can not only gain a lot of life (and deal a lot of damage) for one mana, but comes from the same set as Tamanoa!
3.5!? What is there NOT to love about this card? It lifelinks YOU. It turns a lightning bolts 3 damage into a 6 point separation! Let's do the math.. You play this card for 3, then (going to the best case scenario) spend 4 more on lightning bolts for a total of 7 mana & what happens? You either A) Just won. Or, B) separated yourself from your barely still breathing opponent by 24 health points! I'm not even going to mention what I'm about to do to you with reverberate! I know I just stated the obvious but just so I could point out how much of a tough crowd we have on here. Shheeeesh! P.S.- I like this card.

Running this and using Hurricane to clear the board of flyers has given me awesome amounts of life several times, and it's a great feeling.
Sanguine bond doesn't cause damage, it causes loss of life
anyways this was back when three colored cards weren't associated with shards of alara. This is NOT a naya card

This card is awesome! I made a really rather effective deck built around this and Searing Meditation.
You need Painlands (Battlefield Forge, etc.) and/or the Mirrodin Talismans (Talisman of Unity, etc.), and an excuse to tap mana every turn (I use Isochron Scepter). With Tamanoa out, each instance of tapping a painland technically gains you life, allowing you to use Searing Meditation for each instance, you can tap yourself out to deal 2 damage per 2 mana while gaining an equal amount of life.
Multiple copies of Tamanoa stack, gaining you life each time you tap a painland and double on regular damage. I've easily reached into the hundreds of life in multiplayer games using this. If any of you are thinking that this combo sounds too Johnny-ish, you don't need all parts out for it to effectively work.
Having read the comments (particularly BinarySpike), I have to add Manabarbs to my deck. Manabarbs would count as a different source of damage than the painlands, making just one copy of Tamanoa still work for me while opponents lands hurt them and heal me (since Manabarbs is still my source). Yeah, I'm full well expecting to see Manabarbs get Counterbored the second time I ever try to play it.
i had tested this and 2 things I might say he gives you lots and lots of life with things like lightning axe this is not my kind of deck.. i dont belive life gain is all that usefull but a didnt resist i love multicolour cards a lightning helix giving 6 life is only better if you use balefire liege intead however the G in this cost means your at the right spot to use a woolly friend we all know
that being said i've put a playset of shivan meteor just for the Lolz

I am somewhat surprised that nobody has mentioned sorrow's path yet. - Concerted Effort Horizon Drake Tamanoa Sorrow's Path - If you get all of those things out Sorrow's Path suddenly becomes a decent card. Not worth the trouble mind you, but still funny.

You do NOT need to protect him from Pyrohemia, if you just pay three red that's at least nine life, if you're not playing multiplayer and Tamanoa is the only creature on board.

The flavor text refers to it as "The Tamanoa", yet it's not legendary? Why Wizards why?

@Megadog If you notice, "tamanoa" is not capitalized in the flavor text. This means it's referring to "The tamanoa" as a group/species. It would be akin to the flavor text reading "When Freyalise spoke the World Spell, the elves rose to bring a new morning to Terisiare" Tamanoa is not an individual's name or title in this case, it is a race/species/culture. While it might be nice for this to be legendary, simply for EDH purposes, the flavor indicates that it is merely one of many like it. I would be interested to see more creatures of this species, though. Perhaps a named one that actually is Legendary, and has a more powerful and/or similar ability. Even more interesting might be a Planeswalker from among them whose loyalty abilities revolve around you gaining life or adding extra abilities to spells you cast.

And the best target for shield of the oversoul.
Also, really makes Fiery Justice work, especially if it's backed up by Kavu Predator, Grove of the Burnwillows and Punishing Fire.
Seriously, run a naya snow base with Arctic Flats and Highland Weald and use Into the North for mana-fixing / ramping into more snow lands.
P.S.- I like this card.
