Should really have something like "when another creature never targeted by rage thrower's ability this turn dies, rage thrower deals 2 damage to target creature or player".

Holy crap, I swear I'm the only one who knows how to play magic. I blocked with this guy to trade, and everyone at the tournament insisted that his damage didn't go off. Cost me a game.

With how sac-happy Innistrad is, Wizards must have been worried this guy would get triggered too often in a match. It's the only reason I can think of to warrant a 6 CMC. I think a 2/2 for 4 CMC would have been playable in more formats. But at this cost, I just don't see him hitting the table outside sealed play.

Pretty good. Use it in a {B/R} sac deck, slam opponent for damage.
Also, he's powering his flamethrower with the spirits of the deceased. That guy is my hero.

Am I the only person who hates this guy for flavor reasons? The entire thing is a ridiculous stretch to me. They said they didn't want big flashy fireballs and such 'cause it wouldn't fit, but a flamethrower does? Seriously? "No but its run by ghosts so it's fine." Yeah, but no, it's not. And the flavor text? Cheesey as all heck... Just so bad.

This is one of those cards you wish could cost a lot less to play, but once you get them out onto the battlefield, you can really enjoy what they can do, until they get destroyed. 3.5/5

Run this guy with Goblin Bombardment for a sac engine and some extra damage to dish out. Pretty fun to play in my Sek'Kuar EDH deck

Two words: horde deck. With this guy you can oneshot a horde deck when one creature dies. That's with one Rage Thrower out, when you get more than one, the damage really starts to climb. I do think that he would have been better as a 2/4 though.

That's not a shaman......that's a scientist. :p
Seriously- it might seem counter-intuitive, but 'scientist' I believe is a valid creature class for MTG to have. It's not just Innistrad's Mad Scientists, either. Every single set that had PHYREXIANS in it had room for a few 'scientist' creatures.
Nin, the Pain Artist could even have been a Scientist Witch. How awesome would that have been?
Dear Wizards: I understand some of your resistances to putting too much science into a game like Magic, but when it FITS, don't say no!

Too expensive, you all say. Well, my Animar, Soul of Elements EDH disagrees with you. My poor Animar deck always had a tendency to have something between five and thirty 5-12 CMC creatures on the battlefield at once, so you can understand how much boardwipes pained me. Well, now I can pay (R) for a "If you boardwipe, you DIE, and some other player is probably gonna die too." 5/5 stars, I dont know how I ever lived without you, Rage Thrower!

Unless the boardwipe only kills off some of your creatures, Rage Thrower would fall as well alongside them. Once the spell resolves, all the creatures are removed simultaneously, eliminating the chance for him to use the ability. He also needs to be alive in order to use the ability. So that's why if someone burns him, he can't activate the ability because the spell resolved first on the stack.

3/5. Needs to be an enchantment or at least more toughness.. Waaay to easy to kill, but I want the ability for cheaper. Hmm

The lack of the word "may" cost me many games against my friend who plays this. I'd get my sac engine running, and both of us forget about this ability for a couple of turns. When he remembers, my stuff has died enough for me to take lethal damage.

If Rage Thrower dies at the same time as another creature, its ability is still triggered. It says so in the rulings on the Details page for this card.

Sad that this guy costs 6 but can't even survive a Shock, because I really like the idea.
This guy is too expensive though, six mana for a 4/2 just isn't good enough. A 4/3 would even be fine just to get him out of range of Pillar of flame range. But I suppose in humans you could swarm, Blasphemous Act and burn them out.

@NoobofLore Sad, even sadder when judges don't know what there doing either. Thats why I like playing online, no having to teach stubborn people the rulebook and no incompetent judges.
Anyways, look at this guys flavor text. Imagine a zombie movie with a guy running around with a flamethrower. That's this guy, almost worth making a deck around him just for that.

Oh, I can just see him killing off every 1/1 spirit tokens as long as there's a first spark of death. But yeah, what is stopping people from playing it is its mana cost.
As for the flavor, when you view something as "half empty", you're thinking negative whereas if you think something as "half full", you're thinking positive. In other words, this guy has not lost any hope just yet.

I really like this card, but for 6 mana its far to expensive to be realistically used in any kind of serious play.

I put this guy in my BRG eldrazi deck and he's wicked.
The deck averages 8cmc, so his cost isn't a problem. Plus, he combos with everything eldrazi. sac your drazi tokens, deal 2 damage for each 1 mana, annihilator can also potentially trigger the damage. A card like All is Dust becomes even more ridiculous with this dude out.
Out of this deck, I do find him pretty useless. Total niche card.

Art isn't terrible, but not particularly noteworthy. Flavour text needs work, they tried way too hard. Ability could really be something else in the right deck. I'm thinking lots of tokens, and a fair bit of haste and vigilance for hitting every turn.
Really pricey, though. I couldn't justify for this at any point that it'd be useful.

Dude, the literally the only ruling on this card says the exact opposite of what you're saying. If Rage Thrower goes to the graveyard at the same time as other stuff (such as what happens with a boardwipe) he sees everything die, and triggers accordingly.
Hell, it's the reason he's in my Krenko EDH - creates a lovely little "Damned if you boardwipe, damned if you don't" situation.

Flavour on this guy is delicious, but 6 CMC in red should be buying you a big dragon. Once you get to there, you've already thrown down a lot of your other stuff...although dropping him and then performing a mass sacrifice can be fun.
But this guy just makes me grin every time I see him. Gotta give props for that.
Sadly, it costs 6. Makes me wish his ability could also hit creatures for crazy chain-reactions. At uncommon, he's alright the way he is, but {4}{R} would have turned him into a great card.
On the bright side, he has potential. Unlike many cards, if he gets out, he has potential to do a truly ridiculous amount of damage, so at least he's exciting to play.

It's really annoying when people call cards like this bad because of their power/toughness to mana cost ratio. There is more to creatures than just that! Obviously, if you are using Rage Thrower, you aren't planning on attacking like crazy with it. You should think of this card less like "its ability is nice but it's too small for its cost," and more like "if its body is too inefficient for it to be used as a good attacker, maybe I could find a way to use its ability to great effect."
