Very strong. Aggro decks NEED haste to be any good.

Looks like Vampires are making a comeback! My only problem is that there aren't too many humans in these colors though.

Very good card, but it's sad her +1/+1 only goes off with Humans. There are not very many red or black humans worth running, ESPECIALLY in Limited. Very sad. Maybe you can make a White/Black deck with enough dual lands to get her in?

Even without humans, trading a small creature to keep her going is not a bad deal at all. Especially if you have Flayer of the Hatebound out and some Undying zambies just begging to be burned and revived for the Hatebound's effect.

Run with Reckless Waif, maybe? A 3/2 onedrop if she flips, and if your opponent doesn't let that happen you can sac her to this and only lose the one mana.

This card is tricky. 4/1 hasted flying vampire is not really that spectacular as a mythic rare, but it's ability to become indestructible is potent. Even if you ignore the human component of the ability, you can throw some black/red token power and feed her with, let's say, zombies and get annoying flying power that's hard to deal with. Splashing white for human tokens seem to be ineffective for aggro vampires.
If you're fighting human decks, you can always steal their humans with Traitorous Blood or Olivia Voldaren and then feed this lady. It may be inefficient little bit, but may work.

BTW awesome artwork. Maybe one of best looking vampire in Magic universe.

This is possibly the biggest push toward non-BW aggro in DA I have seen. It's a Lightning Elemental, with evasion, and sustainability, which are key.

I don't understand WotC making us splash for Humans though. I mean, first Ravenous Demon, then this, and now Fiend of Shadows. WRB is not going to happen, Wizards, stop trying.

Commander Review: Not that great I fear. The human part will rarely matter. And with one toughness, she is very fragile, unless you have a steady stream of tokens. If you run a deck that is about sacrificing stuff she is about playable, but not awesome.

reminds me of ball lightning for some reason...

personally I like to think of the +1/+1 counter as a small potential bonus; I would run in a red/black commander deck as a sacrifice engine, along with other sac outlets (which I recognize could be better)

commander would be Lyzolda, the Blood Witch

this deck would love grave pact, and potentially similar cards

seems awesome. I got it in my prerelease pool, but unfortunately I never drew it. I had a vampire theme and everything. I like the idea of this card + stealy effects with other aggro vampires as a deck.

Really nice artwork. Nice to see some more uncontrollable vampires that Sorin needs to put in place. Strong threat since its flying especially in limited. I wont complain about it being mythic since it is cheap and is easily supported in B/R now. Though the human part is lost unless you using Olivia against a human deck. i was hoping to see some actually proper Vampires that follow Sorin's ideals but I guess thats left for when the archangel is freed joins Sorin and his loyal vampires come out of the woodwork.

This is like Giant Solifuge, one of my favorite cards back then! Hasty 4/1, even better evasion, and just as hard to kill. Too bad it's a mythic...

My main problem with Dark Ascension are cards like this: they emphasize humans, but there aren't very many in the set. Like Skirsdag Flayer, it is very powerful, but the set just loses a lot of flavor and draftability as compared to Innistrad due to not featuring a whole lot of humans. Still, hopefully this is good enough to push Vamps into constructed play, especially featuring Stromkirk Captain

I love how much she combos with Oliva Voldaren. You snatch a creature you don't like your opponent having and you abuse it's power for yourself. Then sacrifice it when it's no longer needed for an indestructible wrecking ball. Now that's synergy.

A nice card. Don't get me wrong. It's GOOD. But being great would at least have 2 or more toughness, because of cards like Gut Shot or Shock, and if you sacrifice, you lose more creatures. Idk just sayin but combos well with Curse of Stalked Prey. Every vampire does.

☆☆☆☆☆ (0.0/5.0)
I've not found the lack of humans to be a big deal, at least in my B/R vampire deck. More often than not, I'll already have a Curse Of Stalked Prey or two out, so she gets pumped one way or the other.

She becomes even more durable with a Stromkirk Captain out, which curves into her. Enjoy your 5/2 flying hasty first striker.

This card is Tier 1. definitely. 4/1 haste for 4 mana, even without survivabiity, would have once broken the power curve, and is still an enormous threat. And the indestructibiliy bonus is the kind of ability that lets you laugh off sweepers, removing from your mind the question whether an opponent is holding one. If no sweeper has gone off yet, your board is full, and you can cast this without losing it. If a sweeper has gone off, you're safe to play your hastie. On top of what it is as a creature, you have a terriffic sac outlet, which a lot of flavors of black can make use of in itself.

One mistake people are making when evaluating the strength of this card is reading the "human" clause too strongly. You don't have to play humans with this card. In fact, you should definitely play vamps insetad, with cards like Bloodghast and Kalastria Highborn. WIthout any humans at all, you still have a virtually indestructible 4/1 flying, haste. I'd imagine the "sacrifice a human" clause is there for flavor and fun more than anything.

Stromkirk Captain turns this card into an absolute terror. Understand that the Human Sacrifice element of this card is purely an extra, don't get too hung up on it.

This card would be heck of a lot scarier if blade of the bloodchief was still in standard.

Been said already that the +1/+1 counter is just for flavor purposes and nothing more.

personally, I don't think this card is mythic material, but definitely running one or two in a deck. There are better options for 4 mana in R/B, just, not THEMED options.

4 haste damage in the air at the CC of lightning elemental.... This wins games...

And wow you guys, it never even occurred to me to run her with humans. You really need your hands held.

Hey look! It has "sacrifice a creature: counter target Gut Shot. Put a +1/+1 counter on Falkenrath Aristocrat when damage wears off. If that creature was a human, you may counter target Virulent Wound instead."

My point is no 4 CMC mythic deserves a toughness of 1. I thought you knew that too, WotC.

But besides that Wizards, thanks for a B/R non-legendary mythic. I've been waiting...

With a particular angel and a particular human, this combos into something beyond mythic. Beyond epic. Mythepic? Definitely worth the mythic rare status in light of that.

Lord_of_Tresserhorn is right. Let loose a Thatcher Revolt and have your Aristocrat "feed" on one before combat is dealt. Afterwards, if anyone's survived to see the 2nd phase, have her finish off the rest. Bonus points if you have a Blood Artist present to paint how it all went down.

Since you've already splashed red in your vampires deck for this and stormkirk captain, try adding a few act of treason type cards. It would let you steal their creature, kill it off, and make the Aristocrat indestructible that turn.

I'm so torn with all these red vamps. I have a vampire tribal that has all the big power houses: Vampire Nocturnus, Captivating Vampire, Bloodline Keeper, Kalastria Highborn, and many more of the useful vamps. Now where I'm torn is this card here, Olivia Voldaren, and Stromkirk Captain. They are all awesome and I'm sooo tempted to splash in red. I would have to fork out some cash for some good duel lands because I hate lands that come out tapped, so I would have to get cards like Blood Crypt to keep the speed up, and I'm a little hesitant to put another 4cmc creature in there, right now the only thing that costs that much to cast is Bloodline Keeper... so realistically I would probably only throw in like 3 or 4 Stromkirk Captains and 1 or 2 Olivia's... but is that even worth it? Or should I make a whole new vamp deck that works on different mechanics that'll fit these guys better?

TastetheJace has the right idea; it's even better if that Blood Artist has Some Village Cannibals in the audience to appreciate his work. With Avacyn Restored, there are plenty of Red & Black human options in +1/+1 tokens are your thing.

Make a deck with all the multicolor splashlands. Gemstone mine, Ancient Ziggurat, City of Brass etc.

turn 1 noble hierarch
turn 2 silverblade paladin
turn 3 Falkenrath Aristocrat (Attack for 10)
turn 4 Job Done.

DISCLAIMER: THE PROS PLAY THIS WITHOUT ANY HUMANS IN THIER DECK

the true value of this is that the ability doesnt require a human for the idestutibility making this preaty hard to kill; spot removal twords this guy means you can sack a lesser guy instead, same with mass removal, some thing like vapor snag isnt that bad because this has haste. the only things that can remove this when you have other creatures are -1/-1's and exiling both of wich are faily uncomon in standard right now.

in my opinion, this is the sleeper hit of DKA

Meh if you ask me. Sure, flying and haste, that's nice and all, but you're sacrificing a creature to make up for the 1 toughness, and there aren't that many humans in BR. Overrated IMO

She's expensive right now 'cause of BR Zombies. Olivia's good, but kinda slow. Especially compared to the Aristocrat here.

@Gabriel422 haha that's what I thought of when I first saw her. She's a BR Giant Solifuge, but probably a little better since she flies and can protect herself without using mana (not to mention the sacrifice outlet shenanigans). Also vampires being a tribe and all that. My bro and I pulled one of her in a box, but didn't have a deck to put her in and ended up trading it :(

Okay, i just bought 5 dark ascension booster packs and i pulled this and an archangel's light. i looked this up and its 20 bucks i have no idea why because its not even that great cuz who wants to have a load of human cards in their deck? only thing this is good for is flying and the indestructible. For everyone saying archangel's light sucks its actually useful because lets say i got 10 cards in my graveyard oh crap im goonna lose! i got 8 mana though oh weird i just gained 20 life and shuffled all of my cards into my library so yea the price for this card is overwhelming and im gonna make myself an extra 20 buckaroos!

As an aggro player, this is a freaking machine. It's fast and hasty, part of a tribe (not that it matters in constructed), can survive just about anything short of exiling/tragic slip/terminus, is a much needed sac outlet for gravecrawlers/geralf's messengers/stolen creatures, and swings for huge chunks of life. It makes your opponent think twice (pun intended) before simply tapping out for that thragtusk. 4.2/5 constructed
mdakw576
☆☆☆☆☆ (0.0/5.0)
Flying and haste are both hard to deal with, but one thing underrated with the card is that it's a sacrifice outlet, and I'm not just talking about making it indestructible. A zombie deck with this and geralf's messenger out gives a ton of reach. This and gravecrawler allows you to sacrifice gravecrawlers in response to a terminus (so those don't get tucked). This and angel of glory's rise allows you to reuse humans in play. It also makes it awkward for opponents ot use spot removal on your other creatures, as you can make them whiff anyway.

Of course, what really makes this card good or bad is whether or not tragic slip is played. The more slip is played, the less this will, and vice versa.

This card is crazy for oh so many reasons.

4/1 flying haste with the added bonus of becoming indestructible whenever it needs to be. You don't need to put +1/+1 counters on this thing to make it awesome. It'll kill the opponent in 5 turns, anyway.

I was disappointed about this card not having many available humans to sac too. And Olivia Voldaren in her stead is just a total powerhouse. She's your control, removal, and a beast flyer that gets beefier with every turn... but I digress. Was thinking though, how about Falkenrath Aristocrat and the otherwise completely worthless Thatcher Revolt? 2R gets you 3 +1/+1 counters and the activated ability.

As SgtSwaggr has pointed out, there will usually not be many humans to sac to her. It usually requires more than just splashing white to give her reliable counters. That being said, you could just give her generic fodder for the indestructability, but, again, white would be needed for reliable token generation.

I like the abilities and flavor, and it's very powerful, but it's practically a necessity to add white to your deck to use her.

I just pulled this card out of a booster. I can definitely see a good potential for this card. My only wish was that she was a Legendary. I would have loved to run her as a commander. As others have stated, Thatcher Revolt would combo nicely with this card. I do love the artwork though, and the flavor text is nice too. I'm sure I'll find a home for her easily enough. Not to mention that Black, has it's own humans to exploit. But adding white to the mix would probably work out better. Especially if I start using some of my Boros Legion cards, plenty of humans in Ravnica, lol.
