This card is absolutely insane and is easily the most powerful card in Zendikar. It's much, much better than the birds. The kind of mana ramping that this thing provides hasn't been seen since the days of sol ring. Check out this perfect hand:

Turn 1: Forest + elves/birds
Turn 2: tap forest and elves/birds, play cobra, play forest, play another cobra
Turn 3: play forest and add two mana, tap lands and elves/birds, play Terra Stomper

Okay: This card is completely, absolutely BROKEN and Wizards realize that all too well. This snake is even more ridiculous than Goyf and Affinity combined together. Just imagine this: play Cobra on your 3rd turn, slap down a Misty Rainforest (use that one mana on whatever, preferably Scute Mob) and p-a-s-s. Opponent tries to do something, fetch island, counter his spell. And that's only the beginning! Imagine this beast with Harrow. God, Wizards are gonna get so rich on this card alone.

Even in Vintage, the Cobra is probably going to cause quite a shakeup.
Turn 2: Lotus Cobra
Turn 3: Play Fetchland, add 1 mana, fetch a land, add 1 mana, tap the 3 lands you have, you have 5 mana.
What I can think of right now is a BG suicide deck with
Verdant Catacombs, Dark Confidant, Lotus Cobra, Tarmogoyf and maybe Nantuko Shade

Incredible two-drop which will likely see much play in Zendikar.
At first i underrated this card (i still gave it 5/5 but still didn't see some further potention), but actually it in fact appears to be equal or even better than Birds of Paradise. Although it still depends on deck, you will play a land most of the time, therefore despite the fact that mana accel is not granted with the Snake each turn in the lategame, this still has an amazing 2/1 body which likely makes it to one of the greatest two-drops of all time.
Of course since the Birds are a one-drop you might simply want to play both, especially since playing the Cobra with help of Birds on turn two and then getting two further mana from the second land is insane.

And in this card's block you'll find ways to get your lands into play easily, especially in green e.g. with reprinted Harrow.

On top of that, it even synergizes in a tribal deck. Take a look at Sakura-Tribe Scout or Sakura-Tribe Elder for example.
Apparently Snakes in Magic are in some way mana-related like Elves.

And that's a lovely artwork, too.

Pity we don't get the amount of mana of a thosand Lotus Blooms with each land, though - on the other hand, i wouldn't like this card seen banned ;)

Ridiculous for two reasons. First, it's ridiculously, fantastically good, and green players would be fools not to have them. Second, this IS NOT A MYTHIC CARD. Yes, it is a good card. A good card and a Mythic Rare aren't the same thing, Wizards. Mythic creatures are insanely flashy, dripping with flavor, and often very, very strong. This is a 2/1 for 2 mana with an ability that is technically very good but not flashy at all. This is not Mythic material. This is why you made Rare, Wizards.

Wizards,

"Or more to the point, what kind of cards are going to become mythic rares? We want the flavor of mythic rare to be something that feels very special and unique. Generally speaking we expect that to mean cards like Planeswalkers, most legends, and epic-feeling creatures and spells. They will not just be a list of each set's most powerful tournament-level cards.

We've also decided that there are certain things we specifically do not want to be mythic rares. The largest category is utility cards, what I'll define as cards that fill a universal function. Some examples of this category would be cycles of dual lands and cards like Mutavault or Char."

MaRo said you wouldn't print utility cards at Mythic Rare - that was supposed to be for "very special... unique... epic-feeling". This is not - it's a tournament staple like Tarmogoyf and putting it at Mythic Rare is mean to poor players like me who don't want to pay $25 each for this card.

1. The card deserves to be mythic, because it lets the new fetch lands act like Black Lotuses, all be it on turn two at the earliest, and costing you one life, which is nowhere the same level of insanity the Old Girl could produce, thus bringing something back to the game that hasn't been seen in over a decade. Also, it makes Timmy and Spike wet themselves in about the time it takes to read the landfall ability, which is THE POINT of mythics.

2. Sorry guys, but the fact is that EVERY deck that NEEDS the cobra to live in order to win is a COMBO deck. When it hits, you win; when it misses, you get the poop torn out of you by vampires and soldiers. BDM and Flores can mock "Doom-Blade Guy" all they want, but there is enough removal in red, white and black at low costs to force over-ambitious combo players to spend half their games sitting with Ultimatums and what not in their hand, because they can't cast them the hard way.

3. Sucks to unload all your tricks to drop an Ultimatum or Identity Crisis on turn three just to have your opponent slap down a Negate or Small Pierce and untap with a smirk. Far-fetched? Not as much so as the "God Hands" everyone seems to think will be the norm. Unlike Affinity, this card will actually make it to being legal before anyone considers of banning it, because the combos are still theoretical.

4. This card blows in limited. I cracked one, and it either died quickly or helped unmanascrew me for all of one turn. Birds are better in sealed...especially especially with this formats creatures.

Although I agree that this seems overpowered at first glance, upon further inspection it doesn't actually appear to be a gamebreaker. Its mythic status actually looks like it's justified, unlike some other mythics that either aren't strong enough to merit their status or are just retardedly overblown. (Felidar Sovereign and Baneslayer Angel, I'm looking at you.)

Should have been printed as a common and been the new Quirion Elves...only better...much better. Any Standard/Extended deck with green as one of its colors will be stronger with them than without them and that may even go for a lot of Vintage and Legacy decks. It's much more true of these snakes than it is of mana birds since the snakes are faster.

With fetch lands going into practically every tournament deck, this guy easily gives a boost of +2 mana already on turn 3 and can attack for 2 if unblocked as well. If playing/using a fetch land in a given turn, it can even pay its own mana back immediately.

In most decks, when are you gonna get this, and wish you hadn't drawn an elf or bird? Seriously? It is a 1 toughness creature, so it sucks in combo, it is inefficient for aggro, and control has better things to be doing than syphoning it's own mana. The only place this card has a real home is in Zoo. Only good if you can cheat good enough to never get caught, and always get godhands. Otherwise, it sits there.

This card shows what is right with Zendikar, namely a card with an elegant rule system attached that is fair and balanced. this is a good card
This card also shows what is wrong with Zendikar. Namely that there are too many extra rules added as either new rules or reintroduced old rules.
Kicker, opponents life over ten, Ally, Traps, Landfall, Quests and Vampires are the ones that readily come to mind. It's too many rules for a mere 234 cards, it's too fussy.
this means that the bad cards are truly bad (Pillarfield Ox) or simply confused (Guul Draz Specter)
I won't be buying a booster box because the ratio of good cards to bad is too low, but I will be buying singles that are good.

I like this card more than birds of paradise actually, it can still attack if you want it too with that nice 2/1 in there, and in the early part of the game when you would be playing it your using that landfall ability every turn unless you get a few bad draws. I'd hope that the cobras will be priced cheaper too.. but I doubt it, one of the reasons I don't have a full set of birds of paradise. On side note, for some reason mtg always has lotus's, utopia, and snakes that produce mana usually, in ancient egypt one of the cobra goddesses was considered to be queen of magic, or something like that. Anyways, time to buy some boosters and see if I can snag any of this cobra.

update: Ok ok now that I've calmed down a little, why is everyone freaking out so much? Lets take another realistic look at this cobra. Unless your playing multiple lands a turn (and then your opponent can archive trap you), and then it is great I admit, its just giving you 1 any color mana a turn. At 2 mana cost, this is almost exactly like a druid of the anima, with a slight improvement. Oh yeah and noble hierarch, also a lot like this, except maybe better in its own way because its played for 1 mana, not 2, and has exalted so it benefits late game.

WHY IN THE WORLD IS THIS MYTHIC RARE?
WIZARDS, ARE YOU SERIOUSLY TRYING TO DRIVE AWAY ALL YOUR NEW PLAYERS AFTER JUST HAVING MADE NEW RULES IN AN ATTEMPT TO GET SOME?
I GET $5 A WEEK. THAT'S MY ALLOWANCE. THIS THING IS GOING TO BE $20 EACH. THE REASON I ALWAYS LOSE THIS GAME IS BECAUSE I CAN'T AFFORD THE CARDS NEEDED TO MAKE GOOD CARDS WORK.
I hope you're all so proud you're spoiling the aristocracy, Wizards.
If you print more mythic rare utility cards in the extensions of Zendikar, I'm quitting this game.

Yeah, "Mythic Rare" becoming code for "insanely good tournament level card" is a disturbing trend. I always thought Mythic Rares were cards that had some sort of significance in the set's story (planeswalkers and the like) or at least were, y'know, Mythic. This guy's just a snake.

Lotus cobra looks like a good card. Not overpowered just good like Bloodbraid elf for example. If I don't specificaly need 3 mana on turn 2 I would play this over Birds of Paradise in any deck that can use it. Simply because it can attack and produce any colour of mana at the same time. Sometimes you can even have those good draws that produce a third turn Baneslayer Angel. Other times it will just get killed by a Path to Exile or Lightning bolt but still drawing a kill spell away for stronger offensive threats.
I don’t think this card should be mythic though. It doesn’t have the flavour or story that should be attached to a mythic. It certainly doesn’t seem like a limited bomb. Looks more like a rare to me. But this isn’t a must have card for a budget player to compete with a non budget opponent. As I said a simple lightning bolt, Path to exile or even the new Burst Lightning gets rid of it while still leaving you mana open to play a 2 mana card on turn 3 (or just kill it in response if you already had the mana open). If your opponent built his deck largely on using this card then that’s a major setback for him. If it’s just the replacement for his Birds Of Paradise then you still killed his mana acceleration.

All right, calm down, people. In case you haven't noticed, this thing has one toughness, and it does not have protection from anything, much less shroud or indestructibility. Also in case you haven't noticed, removal is HUGE in standard. Let's see, off the top of my head... Path to Exile (One of the few cases I think I could justify using that one early in the game), Harm's Way, and Oblivion Ring from white (not counting WOG omni-removal stuff), doomblade, feast of blood, hideous end, disfigure, and deathmark from black, ... Any burn spell from red besides ignite disorder, really, plus terminate to stop regen-saves. And that's not counting blue counterspells and bounces. Really, with removal the way it is lately, ANY sort of creature that says to you, "Cool! This card is AWESOME!" when you pull it, is not long for this world, unless you're playing against green (who, as is usually the case, and for the matter, should be the case, isn't great on removal) or you're winning. Unless, of course we're Prognetius, but that's so expensive, by the time you cast it, you were probably preparing for a final strike anyway.

Also, before you start squeeing like a twilight fangirl over all the combos you can pull off with this card, save yourself the embaressment and do the math to see what the odds of seriously pulling these several-turn kills off is.

I'm not saying this isn't a good card. It is, and I'd be a fool to think otherwise. But it sure isn't the gamebreaker some people think it is.

Overall, though, unless this little guy becomes some sort of macguffin in the webcomics/novels, he really doesn't deserve the in-universe notability Mythic-status gives him.

With a Birds of Paradise on the field first turn, and Lotus Cobra second, with the land and birds from first turn paying for the cobra, then you can play a fetch land for your second turn land, fetching another land, and tapping that land gives you 3 in the pool. Harrow will give you 2 land and 2 in the pool, which will get you a Oracle of Mul Daya. After getting a play set, there is no deck that i can think of that would not benefit from this snake. to those who say this isn't worth Mythic, play someone running them. Yes it is a utility card, but its potential is in mythic proportions.

@those of you adding x mana this snake can give you by turn y(yes i know i just did, but as more of a combo suggestion than me limiting this card to x by y).
Lotus Cobra is not limited to a set number of mana per turn. Depending on your hand, you can have any amount of mana to play out your hand by second turn, draw some more cards, play them too, play lands that aren't even in your hand, and so on. Someone told me yesterday I was stupid for Path to Exileing the Cobra. I would much prefer they had 1 tapped land over an infinite amount of possibilities. All I'm trying to say is, this card is limited only to your imagination (and a little bit by luck). if you think its a bad card, try and think outside the box a bit more than "this card gives 1 mana per turn, noble heirach is better". It may take you getting roflstomped 4th turn before you sit back and think "wait on, how did he get a Warp World off 3rd turn with 15 permanents on the field. I only had 3".
btw, Warp World works great with Ob Nixilis, the Fallen. This is my Lotus Ramp Warp World 4th turn OTK deck with Siege-Gang Commanders.)

@sir_dwar: Yeah doing math is fun, lets see now, in an FNM tourney last night, i pulled off second turn lotus cobra 3/5 games, on average. I came first in the tourney, and warp worlded 5th turn in one game purely because of lotus cobra. I agree, there is a very large amount of removal in standard, and it does slow me down, but having a -1 to their removal cards in hand is always a good thing, means less often my Ob Nixilis will get removed.

You dont build a deck around Lotus Cobra, the snake just makes you plans come to fruition a lot faster.
It is better suited to a landfall based deck, but really, what deck doesn't like having heaps more mana in their pool. Any card that was previously 'average' for bringing lands into play tapped is now infinitely more useful.

Its not an "if I pull this snake off I win" card, but it most definitely is an "if this guy stays on the field for even just 2 turns, I have gained a very large advantage over my opponent" card.

Good card, but somewhat overrated. It would normally work pretty well, but it's been my experience that it dies pretty quick to Lightning Bolt/Pyroclasm/Volcanic Fallout/Infest/Marsh Casualties. Few opponents let it hang around for more than a round or two, if even that. It would be a lot better as a 0/3 creature, but I guess as a cobra, its supposed to have some bite. It's a solid card, but not as good as I had hoped. Don't believe the hype.

Yes this is a good card, insanely good, but the problem is, IT DOESNT GO THUD WHEN IT HITS THE TABLE

and that is what a mythic card should do, take the planeswalkers for example, when was the last time someone said eh when a garruk or elspeth hit the table

mythics should be game changing, put your opponent either into scoop phase or on a tight clock, this does niether, all it can do is power out some combo a turn or 2 earlier

I am not saying that is bad, I like green and massive mana ramp, the problem is if this is monogreen's only mythic rare (not including the green planeswalkers) it is seriously lacking in power, its best cards only help other cards get played sooner?

the problems with this card is it has less survivability then most mana generators, and it is in a set with a well beyond excessively bad cardpool. Mythic Rare and Rare basically mean "Ya, these are the only cards we could think of." in Zendikar. The Eternity vessel is useless, as a large number of the cards in the set, only 5-6 of the mythic rares are worth playing, not because of pricing, but because they just suck.

MaRo admitted that this should be a lower rarity, but no one at Wizards could bring themselves to actually set it at rare.

if you dont care about standard, go find a Joiner adept. the adept is more consistent, the effect is superior, and unlike Snake, Elf is a very powerful tribe
ReneLT
★★☆☆☆ (2.0/5.0) (3 votes)
Joiner Adept does not accellerate your mana. This thing does. Who the F%¤# plays joiner Adept? Alot of people play this, noone played Joiner when it was T2 legal.. And mor consistent? 2/1 vs 2/1 is pretty much even, but since lotus cobra allows you to make some insane plays (t1 fetch, forest, birds. t2 cobra, fetch, plains, knight of reliquary or putrid leech) that's 6/5 combined on t2. then you even have the chance to play another fetch on t3, play baneslayer or ob nixilis. i's like to see Joiner Adept do that.

Give this guy shroud, and your lands phasing.....

I think the rarity is ok relative to other cards like Birds of Paradise. Its basically another cheap mana generator for green, except that it doesn't have to tap, and theres larger potential for a larger than normal benefit.

However I don't think that this is in line with what a mythic rare should be. I totally agree with Dingo777. Mythics shouldn't just be the next step up from rares, they should be impressive.
I'd auto-krap myself when my opponent plays a mythic on turn 2, but then I'd realise what it was and pity Wizards' decision making skills.

Get two of these cards onto the battlefield with a Tideforce Elemental and a Ruin Ghost and you have an infinite combo on your hands. (though you'll need a landfall creature or ability that can finish off your opponents)

Anything that generates an infinite combo in a single block is epic.

The thrillhouse method -- Lotus Cobra - Pay land - Explore combo

Ok, so i may be a noob(less than a week), but i see the ridiculousness of this card. Most posts i have read have been about 3rd turn combos. Well here's a 2nd turn combo that while may seem unlikely of a draw, is not totally outside the realm of possibility and as far as i believe, totally current in standard:

Initial Hand:

Forest
Llanowar Elves(or other 1 cost mana accelerator, there are many)
Lotus Cobra
2 Explore
2 Marsh Flats(or any other pay land)

Turn 1
Draw a card(It's another Pay Land #3)
Play Forest
Cast Llanowar Elves

Turn 2
DRAW a card(Lotus Cobra #2!!)
CAST Lotus Cobra
PLAY a Pay land & Sacrifice it
ENTER Land & tap it (3 mana now in pool, 1 from land and 2 from Lotus Cobra landfall ability)
Cast Explore (1 mana in pool) -- Draw a card(Lucky, another Pay land #4)
Play Pay land #2 (2 mana now in pool, 1 leftover and 1 new one from landfall)

THE LOOP(..the warrant...and the crook)

Cast Lotus Cobra #2
Now Sacrifice Pay Land #2
ENTER Land & tap (3 mana now in pool, 2 from landfall abilities and 1 from new land)
CAST Explore #2 (1 mana in pool) -- Draw a card(Would you look at that, an Explore #3!!)
PLAY Pay Land #3 & Sacrifice it (3 mana in pool)
ENTER Land (5 mana in pool)
CAST Explore #3 (3 mana left) -- Draw a card(An awesome CMC 7 card)
PLAY Pay land #4 and Sacrifice it (5 mana in pool)
ENTER Land (7 mana in pool)
CAST CMC 7 card

If that doesn't set you up for a win i don't know what would. Definitely a powerful card even if you don't loop with explore that many times.

Turn one: Forest. Tap forest: lanowar elf -or- birds of paradise.

Turn two: Tap forest, tap birds of paradise: Lotus cobra. Play forest, trigger L.C. landfall. Tap forest, use L.C. mana: Lotus cobra, again.

Turn three: In play: Forest x2, Lotus Cobra x2, Birds of paradise. Play forest. Trigger L.C. Landfall x2. Tap forest x3, birds of paradise: 6 mana, play harrow twice. Drop four lands. Trigger L.C. landfall x8. Tap forest x4: 12 mana in mana pool. Terra stomper x2.

Turn Four: Kill, kill, kill.

This is only mono-green. If you add in white, you could drop Iona, Shield of Emeria. If you splash black in what we used to call 'type one' Spirit of the Night would be your best friend. And the best part is, because the Lotus Cobra is rainbow, you don't even need to have the lands to play the colors you want. Be mindful of archive traps and that spell for 3UU that exiles up to 3 target spells. They will hate on your stompy's.

my friend found out a really scary combo that involves lotus cobra, tideforce elemental, cosi ravager, ruin ghost and optionally seer sundial. He and I called it the "1 000 000 damage combo". you need to have all of these creatures on the field.

step1:use ruin ghost's ability on a plain; the land will be removed and then putted back on the field, thus creating "landfall".
step2: with that landfall, you get one mana of any color from lotus cobra (call blue). Tideforce elemental will untap (if tapped). pay one blue and tap your elemental to untap ruin ghost and repeat the process. the more landfall you do, the more damage cosi ravager will do to a target player and therefore, you can do over
1 000 000 damage.
this is do-able on turn 4 if you dropped a land and dropped those creature. normally, tactics are "turn 5 game-over" while this is a "turn 4 game-over". you may want to have a bunch of llanowar elves for support to get more mana

I, on the other hand, have found a combo to make one invulnerable to this combo but its very unorthodox for one to use it. you need whispersilk cloak, indestructibility, 4 etherium sculptor for support and platinum angel.
enchant platinum angel first then equip whispersilk to it and you can endure as much damage as you want as long as you're opponent doesn't have any naturalise, relic crush and what not.

What makes me prefer this over BoP is that the mana produced is never fixed. It can be accelerated via Exploration/Burgeoning or in a deck that ramps out land with harrow-esque cards, this can be devastating...especially with amulet of vigor.

Generally speaking Mythic cards should be something that changes the game or does something extreme... Not just something whitch just support the deck a bit..

So, I'm gonna have to rate it as a Mythic card where the requirements are way high than the Rare...
So I'm gonna give this a 2/5 as a Mythic and 4/5 if it were a Rare.

I was really Impressed to see this card rated about 4/5.. That means that most people rate this card ignoring it's rarety whitch it's essencial to a card rate in my opinion cause It's a whole different thing to Work for example 6 hours for 20$ and different thing to work 20 hours for 25$
You know 25$ might be better than 20$ but have to work a way lot hours in this exaple to get them (I hope that you understood my exaple.)
I didn't know how to say than in english so I seached a dictionary to find this word even if I don't know what it actuallly mean in english.
proportional, Lotus Cobra it's worse than Birds of Paradice cause it's harder to get.
I know Birds might not have the 3rt turn 5 mana combo like Cobra but it's Rare slot makes it easier to find.
In other words, if Birds were Mythic I would just rate it 0.5/5 cause it not only would be worse as a card than Cobra, but also you would had the same chances to get it...

As a Mythic I say it's plains crap... If it were a rare I'll did everything to get it... Seriously for a Mythic card even 10$ is expensive since it's not masterpiece in a deck...
I got really dissapointed when I opened a booster pack and I got this... It just a waste of the Mythic slot,

Pretty amazing looking card.
Turn 3 can see 4 mana insteadof 3 to hit into things like bloodbraid elf.

The main thing I can see this for is Omnath, Locus of Mana. Some sweep cards from the Kamigawa sets to return land to you hand to play again and his landfall ability to gain even more green mana in no time. By Turn 4 Omnath, Locus of Mana could be a 8/8 if you don't play anything.

This is cool, but leaves some things out of your control a little more than I'd like. Still, can be a nice fit in a multi-color deck. Landfall is a bit iffy, as this is more often than not up to chance that you draw a land after this is in play. Quite honestly, I don't see why this is so much more expensive than harabaz druid. Harabaz druid is truly an ally that can exist comfortably outside of the ally deck archetype.

This card is actually justified in it's mythic rarity, mostly because of the mechanc landfall. It allows for infinite combo's with other creatures from the Zendikar block. It's a great card, it is a shame about it's cost though. Cheapest I could find this card was for $18 a piece.

So glad this made it into vintage. 2 power's a big difference when you're trying to beat down your opponent. Although it may not provide the control other Fish creatures do (e.g. Gaddock, Mindcensor, Pridemage, Shusher, Kataki) it does allow you to make fast plays.
T1 land + mox and this enables you to lay down a fetch land on T2 and play 2 spells then (3 maybe if you are playing black for duress + bob)

It essentially gives decks a form of mana acceleration that was only available to the other major vintage archetypes (Workshop, ritual combo). You can now hardcast Inky off mana drain and a few unpopped fetchlands

Come on, this guy should be rare instead. When I see the orange colour, I want to be blown away and shout "MUAHAHHAHA, this will be devastating in a certain deck", not "oh, this will put me above the mana curve, how nice". Come on wizards, this should have been a rare, it's simply too effective yet boring to be mythic. I want my mythics to feel like bombshells in the face of my opponent, not a 2 drop that gets shriveled.
At this rate, standard will soon be an all mythic format, meaning deck cost of several hundreds of dollars, which SUX.

I think the flavor makes it seem "special" enough to justify mythic status. The "lotus" in the name is honestly enough to do this.

But for what the card does. it shouldn't be a mythic. I don't see why a card with the same ability couldn't be an uncommon.

Anyway, at the end of the day, WOTC is a business. If they can turn a profit by breaking promises, I wouldn't be surprised if they did. If it upsets y'all that much, I suggest you vote with your wallets.

Why is this card not nerfed at all? Most mythics (while powerful) have something that nerfs them. Usually this comes from some type of legendary ruling, yet this is the most flawless card I've ever seen. They could've at least given it 0 power (its a small snake wtfff? I'll stomp this bastard), but instead they give it 2 power.

@rodrat - The reason this isn't mythic worthy is because its not flavorful. Its purely a utility card, and this goes directly against WotC's definition of the status. This should be a hard-to-find rare, not a mythic.

Man, using a utility card as a Mythic doesn't make the card special to the Magic universe. All it does it raise the card's price.

4.5/5 - Its an amazing card, but I don't like how it has no drawbacks.

Ok so, Lotus Cobra, mythic. Utility? Yes. Flavorful? YES. Lotus has always been the essense of pure mana in magic, and this card producing mana just makes sense. It came out in Zendikar, so why not use the new Landfall mechanic? Im sorry, I think you all are just mad. If you dont like cards being cheated in...then just play Mana leak? I actually like that Wizards is being smart and making this mythic rare. Mythic rares should be about players not getting a deck packed with broken cards. They made a big mistake reprinting Ancient Hellkite as a RARE INTRO PACK PREMIUM. "Oh, we're just going to put mythic rares in beginner's decks so that experienced players can come and get them easily and win."

Great card, definitely should be mythic rare.

Turn 1: Forest
Turn 2: Land, Lotus Cobra
Turn 3: Fetch land, sac to get a land, and tap that new land. That is 3 mana. Use a Harrow to get 2 more lands. Tap them. You have 4 mana. Tap your lands from the first 2 turns, and you have 6 mana. Drop a Grave Titan on Turn 3 in standard. Or like in my deck, a Frost Titan on the third turn to tap a land, making the extra 2-cost to target him hurt even more.

I absolutely love this card. I wish it was not mythic, as with all of them, as it is a fun card to play with and more players should be able to have a few of these. It is great fun to have 2 in play, drop a Primeval Titan, and end up with 4 mana floating. And that is not even mentioning that it has 2 power for 2 mana.

My U/G "Turn taking" deck uses this card to it's fullest extent

Turn 1: Forest, Birds of Paradise
Turn 2: Lotus Cobra, any land, 2 more Birds or my personal favorite, Bloom Tender
Turn 3: Land, Mana Reflection
Turn 4: Land, Time to break out the big guns! At this point you can cast just about anything. I usually go with Kozilek, Butcher of Truths, Ulamog, The Infinite Gyre, Blightsteel Colossus, or one of the most hated cards I own... Tidespout Tyrant OR you can basically win it immediately with a Time Stretch followed by one of the big guys, followed by a massive attack :)

Lotus Cobra adds that extra mana I need for these combos. Sometimes you'll be sitting there with a REALLY nice card and are 1 mana short. Then you'll wish you had the Lotus Cobra :-p

Wizards were doing so well with their claim that mythic cards would not just be the best cards and tournament staples. Then they printed walletslayer in M10 and it went downhill from there, leading to Zendikar which sold itself simply by the promise of broken mythics.

The sad part is Wizards still try to claim they kept their promise.

I don't really care if it's mythic or not, or if wizards broke their promise...green needs more good stuff...even now, you only see people splashing green for the cobras or vengevines, or running occasional green white. The price is falling! The price is falling! Oh my God Wizards, the price of your ridiculous intentionally-expensive "mythic rare" utility card has dropped to the $10 mark since it never panned out as a true tourney staple and is about to rotate out of standard! Whatever will you do!?!?

I know, I know! Print more Papa Jaces and Vengevines! Mox Opals! Obliterators! Thruns! Persecutors! Comet Storms! Titans! Just gotta keep under-printing intentionally overpowered crap that everybody needs to competitively play and your game will be awesome! All you gotta do is find the most obviously-powerful cards in the design folder, no matter what they actually do or how important they will be to constructed play, and Voila! You've found your mythics!

It's like they need to just limit themselves from making "mythic rares" at less than 6 or 7 CMC. If they insist on under-printing staple cards, the giant Eldrazi's, Karn, and the New Phyrexian Praetors are excuseable. I'll even give them Dragonmaster Outcast as a possible exception to the rule. But almost every other sub-6 CMC mythic rare is so powerful that they knew damn well it had a good chance of being a tourney staple and that it would then cost at least $20-40 a pop. This Cobra monstrosity in particular is the worst case of inexcusable mythic rare design ever. If R&D doesn't clean up their act after Papa Jace, they never will. Oh well, I guess every game needs its version of the Ultra-Mega-Rare Triple-Foil Alternate-Art Holographic Charizard... Ought as well make it something you need a playset of to ever win a game.

I feel like Bankslayer was mythic because of it's cheesy protection abilities, not because of how insanely over-played it is. It's mythic because it stands in the face of dragons and demons and laughs, that's pretty epic for an angel considering few others have that ability. The slew of extra keywords was just because they got carried away and needed a Mythic angel to have a bit extra Oomph.

This, on the other hand, makes no sense, and is only mythic because it has the word Lotus in it.
Which is ironic, as the lotuses in the picture are white, not black.

I can't rate this card but 5/5:
1) it enters early, due to its low mana cost;
2) it accelerates mana a lot (I remark that this adds one mana of ANY color);
3) it is easy to kill, due to it's very low toughness, and this prevents it to be a broken card.

Despite I don't like mythic rares in general and I agree with those who complain about the speculation on their prices, I agree about its mythic rare status. This is one of the "unique and special" creatures in the world of Magic (the cards which deserve the mythic rare status), and it is NOT a utility card. A "utility card" is a card with an effect which is basic for the game (for example dual lands, direct damage, animated lands, counter, ...); a universal mana fixer is far more than this. Birds of Paradise could be a similar candidate for a mythic rare, but since it has been reprinted in a lot of sets as a rare, an "upgrade" now would be nonsense, due to the high availability of the card.

Concerning the flavor text, I think this is better than a Lotus Bloom, but it is surely not worth one thousand of them!

I hate the comment board here more than any other Mythic Rare.

Please, all of you. Go shut up, put on your Indiana Jones hats, (Zendikar was Indiana Jones meets MTG you know), and do some history.

This is NOT a Utility Card. It. Is. Not. A DUAL Land is a Utility Card. BLACK LOTUS on a stick* is not something that needs to be in every players deck to compete. For nearly every normal deck, Birds of Paradise, Llanowar Elves, Noble Hierarch, and other limited color-limited quantity 'mana dork' is already going to be utility enough to be doing rampy enough things in the first place, and you CAN compete even in Zendikar Standard without Lotus Cobras.

Black Lotus is the most powerful card in the game, and anything with 'Lotus' in the name needs to be a Mythic. Wizards loves printing callbacks to the Lotus and Mox cards. Of all the 'staple' effects in magic history, Mana Generation and Card Draw are special. Because even though we see them most often at common and uncommon today, these two effects most directly 'hack' the game and enable super-uber powered combos. That's why I'm sure we will continue to see cards that look like Lotus Cobra at Mythic Rare.

*I'm not confused about the actual power level of the card here. Of course they had to tone it down quite a bit, as a creature that tapped for Black Lotus mana, even with a sacrifice rider, at such a low casting cost would be banned faster than Memory Jar.

Mox Opal is not a fair card to complain about either. If Lotus Cobra and Mox Opal had been the first time Wizards had ever pulled the 'lets pretend to reprint the Power Nine' trick, then you would have a valid argument. But Come. On. This is the same basic idea as From the Vault or Premium Deck Series. Sometimes, Wizards is going to reprint stuff or print new stuff that is supposed to be evocative of the Elder Days of Broken Dumb.

For anyone that knows the history of Black Lotus, I swear that dropping a Lotus Cobra on turn two DOES feel as Mythic as playing Nicol Bolas on turn 8 after casting Cruel Ultimatum on turn 7.
The name Lotus= POWER and RICHES.

HOWEVER----all that being said, UNLESS they have a very, very good extenuating reason, like for example 'Nostalgia over the Power Nine', they should not print NORMAL cards like this at Mythic Rare. This is why Snapcaster Mage, I think, was just a rare. Power-wise, he's probably a bit Mythic, but UNLIKE Lotus Cobra, there is just not enough awe yet at the idea of playing flashback stuff really effectively, in the same way that something named after the Turn 0-Win card inspires awe. Stoneforge Mystic was a callback to Tinker, and THAT was still considered too Utility to be Mythic. Even after what happened, I still don't think Tinker-Belle is a Mythic card. The very top-end of Rare, even better than Snapcaster Mage, but she IS missing that something-something that Lotus Cobra HAS.

Lighthouse Chronologist is a Mythic as well. If you are in doubt as to why, look up Time Walk. It's the same basic principle.

Why isn't Visions of Beyond Mythic? Actually, I don't know. I kind of wish it was.
Maybe any honestly Mythic-strong 1-mana draw card would just be automatically banworthy. Probably.

Lotuses, Time, and Moxes are the REAL MCCOY DEAL. If they ever reprint Lotus Cobra (which I want them to), I hope they keep it's Mythic Rare status. It really does deserve it, on more than just a power basis, as Snapcaster and Stoneforge prove.

You know what, I feel like taking a stand here.

Mythic rare is for epic, legendary cards that make people go "Wow!" Is this card not of that variety?
1: It evokes images of the black lotus or lotus bloom, some of the most powerful cards in the history of MTG. (note: no autocard required, noobs need not apply)
2: The art is beautiful. A+ to Chippy, another masterpiece.
3: The effect? Landfall needed epic cards, look at the powerful mythics; Admonition Angel & Rampaging Baloths and even OB Nixilis, the Fallen landfall removal, landfall token generation and landfall life loss. Where would the mechanic have sat without landfall mana ramp? Is it OP? Probably? Do you want four? Probably. But look at the body, a 2/1 for 2 is pretty standard for a powerhouse like this but 1 toughness means any pinger or pitiful burn spell will off it. So...your fifty dollar ramp card (at its height, currently only 5.00 on starcity) died to a 0.10 cent common. I hate to use the old "dies to removal" but they can't have a 1/6 protection from black with that ability. Then what?

In closing...5/5 great card, I'll buy some now that the price has come down.

Give R&D a break, you whiny haters. They were still establishing what 'mythic' means during Zendikar (and arguably still are even in Return to Ravnica). You don't introduce a completely new rarity to the game without going through a process of figuring out what is appropriate for it. Hell, even 'rare' rares sometimes don't make complete sense. They do their best and they KNOW the best, despite how much each of us thinks we're master game designers.

That aside, this is a really cool card. It's along the same vein as Mirror-Mad Phantasm: you know what you NEED to do with it, you're just not exactly sure how you're going to get there. And for the flavor, this is a snake(s) that has slithered around a garden of lotuses (which are already quite uncommon) until it's taken on some of their mana-enhancing properties. This process probably took quite a while, with the mana of the lotuses sustaining the life of the snake. The end product is a unique, mana-producing familiar. Mythic? Indeed.

For the people complaining that this isn't mythic, go read the flavour text again.

Have you guys never heard of black lotus? How does a card referencing just a bit of its power not qualify as mythic to you?
Yes, it hasn't got a high power/toughness. That doesn't mean that it doesn't go *boom* when it hits the board. Seriously, I have 1 copy in a valakut ramp deck. About half the time it gets removed the second an opponent untaps. But if they don't remove it, they know they're in for some serious pain.
When I saw this card, I stopped. This is amazing, the art, the flavour, it's gorgeous. Sure, its never killed an opponent for me, but the fireball it fuelled sure has.

tl;dr Just because it's not big, doesn't mean its not mythic. There is more than one kind of power. Mythics are not just for timmy.

This block was kind to green ramp, something it desperately needed. Arbor Elf and Overgrowth is fun. So is this and Harrow into Khalni heart activation. There is a lot of hate on this card for its rarity. I hate it when that happens. They should not make overpowered cards just because they are rare. Those who want them will get them and less hardcore players will be denied this particular gem. Still, as a whole I love this card. It comes down fast boy does it ever boost your mana. I thought it was a bad card for the longest time (one mana a turn? That does not even always go off? And gets hit by everything? And does not thin your deck? Laaame). Of course I bought a backpack of Zendikar mistakenly thinking I may be pulling an Emrakul (I love Eldrazi, flavor and oomph on the board). Having all this Zen I made a R/G/W landfall and a G/U landfall. God this is an awesome card!

Crop Rotation, Flagstones, and Harrow are awesome with this.

With even just Crop Rotation you can Time Warp on T3:
T1 - Forest
T2 - Flagstones, Cobra
T3:
-Forest, produce U, tap for GGW
-(G)Crop rotation on Flagstones, tap it for W and produce UG with Cobra (total UUGGW); cast time warp :)

If you can get a mind spring + harrow you can easily draw a bunch of cards, possibly comboing into more turns or your win condition.

It's also worth noting that most people don't mention the possibility of two cobras hitting. If you have two your combos become even easier and more satisfying :)
