If they had written the flavor text for noobs it would say "use it on your Stuffy Doll." I would like to see a 3cmc fight card that cantrips.

I find it funny that Kamahl, Pit Fighter will pretty much always die in a pit fight. XD Granted he'll probably take someone with him.

I am torn between this and Prey Upon While Prey Upon is cheaper at , Pit Fight is instant-speed, and almost makes up for the extra with the On a sidenote; Prey forces you target a creature you control and a creature you don't control while Pit targets a creature you control, and another target creature, which gives slight versatilty- if for any reason you wanted to kill one of your own creatures.
Prey: 3.75 Pit: 4.0

@Kaeru_Jones: That's usually just a bordercase restriction, though. Sure, there are creatures like Stuffy Doll, or cases where you want to get rid of your creature. But in general, i'd much rather just pay half the amount of mana to get this effect.
If you have a deck where you need to get rid of a creature in general, you can use sac outlets instead. Until you happen to experience the rare case that your opponent still managed to put you in a situation where you would like to get rid of your creature but can't, you'll probably have appreciated the mana cost of Prey Upon more than that of Pit Fight - at least in a monogreen deck.

Well this is what green gets for creature killing. And it ain't bad, I'd say. Only slightly more restrictive than some over removal spells.

I had the absolutely most ridiculous conversation at the pre-release event involving this card. Okay, so player A had a 3/3 creature with first strike and player B had a 3/3 creature without first strike. Player A cast this card with the intent of both of those creatures fighting and insisted that because his creature had first strike, it would deal damage before player B's creature and not die as a result of the fight. Obviously, player B disagreed because first strike does not matter when creatures fight. Naturally, player A continued to say he was right. Eventually, they called a guy who was supposedly rather informed and should have been able to make the right call. BUT THIS GUY SIDED WITH PLAYER A! This is where I stepped in and sided with player B because he was obviously right. And to break the tie, I got another person who was relatively respected to get his opinion on it. AND HE SIDED WITH PLAYER A TOO! And, since I was relatively new at this place, and since player B lost interest and agreed to let player A have his way, I lost the argument. Reason was not seen, and the 3/3 first strike creature lived after pit fighting a 3/3 creature without first strike.
As far as the card itself, instant speed allows it to combo with bloodrush. 3/5

Y'know, it'd be really weird to have a fight during the combat step. "What, you're blocking me? In that case, my attacking creature will fight your blocking creature!".

Instant speed Prey Upon. I can't see it being much use outside of a green deck or a RG deck that needs a little more color consistency, but this card is pretty nice. I like how the developers are trying to give green more removal that doesn't suck. Very much appreciated.

The problem I have with this card is that nowhere does it say COMBAT damage. So does this card force those creatures into combat (tapping/attacking/defending)? If they simply do dmg equal to their power to each other outside of combat, then effects like first strike would not apply. What I am wondering is would this apply to TRAMPLE as well? Let's say you cast this and select your Giant Adephage to fight your oponent's Warmind Infantry would the trample effect allow the surplus damage to carry over to your opponent and therefore allow the Adephage to create another copy?

5/5 and here's why:
Step 1:, get fatty-Mc7/7 out. Step 2: keep fatty alive. Step 3: untap, bait their chump with a swing from fatty, drop Pit Fight on their Declare Blockers step, kill their blocker BEFORE it blocks, get through for super-Trample. Step 4: prepare for cards to be thrown at your face in aggravation!
Pit Fight: Pros: -Instant -Playable in red or green -Can target two of your creatures Cons: -Costs 2 Prey Upon: Pros: -Costs one Cons: -Sorcery -Green only -Must target creature you control and one you don't
Sorry, Prey Upon, I have to give this one to the pit.

@Palantin & @FurnaceOfRath:
Current rules for "Fighting" are as follows as of February 1, 2013.
701.10. Fight 701.10a A spell or ability may instruct a creature to fight another creature or it may instruct two creatures to fight each other. Each of those creatures deals damage equal to its power to the other creature. 701.10b If a creature instructed to fight is no longer on the battlefield or is no longer a creature, no damage is dealt. If a creature is an illegal target for a resolving spell or ability that instructs it to fight, no damage is dealt. 701.10c If a creature fights itself, it deals damage equal to its power to itself twice. 701.10d The damage dealt when a creature fights isn't combat damage.
So, FurnaceOfRath, good job on sticking to your guns, and to Palantin, the creatures deal damage to each other. First strike is not a factor and you are not attacking so trampling is not a factor either. As to you getting tokens with Giant Adephage without hitting the other player with attacks you could use Lightning Prowess or a similar effect to generate them tokens.

Bring back stacked damage and pit fight becomes broken.
I will pit fight my 5/5 vs your 5/5 damage on the stack. Pit fight same 5/5 vs another creature. And so on. Just becaome a 1 creature wrecking crew.

Nobody mentioned Nivix Cyclops yet? Pretty good IMHO, because he gets the pump before the fight, then can attack after. Also, since it's an instant, works on defense too. Isochron Scepter Fight Club sounds like a fun deck.

Why only a 3 star rating? Yeah its worse than most removal by far, but how many other removal spells are there in mono green? Not to mention that you can use this for some pretty nice combos since it can hurt your own creature. Use it to pump your Protean Hydra up. Or if you have a revive or regrowth use it to kill your own thragstusk and then revive it. Its especially great if you have a Garruk's Packleader on the field, 5 life, a 3/3 beast, and you get to draw 2 cards all for killing your own creature. If you are talking about using this in a multicolored deck, well its value goes way down. There are a lot of better options, but in monogreen I like, I like it a lot.

@Furnace of Rath.
First strike doesnt effect fight mechanic, you were correct.. In future situations like that, I would say call the wizards hotline but they play fast and lose, I have seen them get info wrong and then I would have to correct the customer support. MTGO and ask the orc is the fastest way to verify info.

Compare to Fall of the Hammer. Based on other hybrid costed cards this should be superior to the mono colored version, but it's not. Adding Green doesn't add anything to the effect but just makes it worse.

@AncientTimer Actually, hybrid cards are supposed to be weaker than mono-coloured cards because they are easier to cast. Things like Rakdos Cackler are basically poorly designed cards because they outclass mono-coloured cards and are easier to cast than them (like satyr firedrinker, though it's always arguable).
This card is an upgrade to prey upon at a slightly higher mana cost, so I think it is perfectly balanced. I love that it is accessible by red and green.
