I love it. Does it deserve to be a mythic rare? Not in 10000 years. Unless there is some serious life gain going on in the next sets in the block, mythic rare status has been rendered meaningless already.

Celestial Mantle is good.

I'm already building a deck around this thing. With a few moment's peaces and wall of reverences, getting to 40 life shouldn't be a problem.

I like the idea behind it.
Another method to win the game is always cool.

I don't quite understand how a giant cat antelope would do this, but hey....

If I have this card and 40 life and my opponent has Platinum Angel out... do I win? My guess is no because Platinum Angel says your opponent cannot win which would seem to take precedence over this card. Thoughts?

I don't see why he would have to go in a lifegain deck specifically, he would be a sturdy blocker in almost any deck that had room for him. Especially in Green-White, since six mana is incredibly easy to reach with Green.

I don't see a problem with this being mythic. It has a "you win the game" ability, and those don't come around every day. If you want to complain about a mythic, complain about Lotus Cobra. Repeat after me, Wizards: A 2-mana 2/1 with a technically great but non-flashy ability IS NOT MYTHIC. That is why you make RARES. Remember?

EDIT: Yes, Andleck, since your opponent has Platinum Angel out, you won't be able to win with the Sovereign's ability. If two cards conradict each other, the negative one wins out. (If one card says creatures with Defender can attack as though they didn't have Defender and another says creatures can't attack, the "can't" effect is applied.)

this card is very nice, and probably the best combos possible with the celestial mantle and that enchantment that make other enchantment and enchanted creature shroud. now all you have to do is wait 3 turn and making sure your 7/9 shroud vigilant lifelink creature attack each turn and survive. If your creature still die, replace the enchantment for a whispersilk cloak, so your creature won't be able to get blocked AND will have shroud, but will only be a 4/6

i think if gaining life is going to be your goal that your going to set in a game gaining 20 life isnt all that bad and by the time you would cast this if youve been setting your goal to gain a bunch of life you should have your 40

Alright, since looking a little harder at this card and actually putting it into a deck where it can be utilized, I do see its uses, and it is a real terror in a dedicated life gain/drain deck. It's a removal magnet, and is limited as far as how many decks it can effectively go in, but in the right spot, it will, well, win the game for you. 4.5/5.

a strong card, 20 life is pretty easy, too bad about the lifelink nerf with M10, but still, 20 life is not hard to get, even 39 life isnt hard, in a life gain deck

not sure if I would go GW or UW though or straight white

I would have preferred it was 5/6, but I actually like this card.. I have a thing for cool cat monsters, its in white, which is unusual for a beast. Sort of an excellent blocker card that can still attack, and hey, you know this card was made for Celestial mantle. The name means cat as in felids or feline, and sovereign, so sort of an emperor cat or cat with its own authority, hence the win by 40 or more life points. Everyone just needs to take a step back, ignore the mythic rare symbol for a minute, and say.. ah.. a nice 6 toughness blocker with vigilance and lifelink in white, and there you have it.

Play it in naya shard cycle cards to get it out early with green mana accel, as well as bant cycle, and throw in some dawnglow infusion and oracle of nectars for easy jump to 40 life. Vines of vastwood to keep it in play and boost it's damage are also probably a really good choice. Feudkillers verdict for 10 life gain at a time and a 5/5 giant. Cradle of vitality is a sort of obvious choice as well as celestial mantle as I already mentioned, probably mixed in with a whispersilk cloak to keep it alive and make it unblockable.

In two packs, I pulled out two foils of these. Then I built my brother a lifegain deck based on damage-absorbing walls that grant life when hit, along with various lifegain cards. It's pretty formidable. And two of these really helps. Did I mentioned they're foils? Very, VERY pretty with the artwork. <3

could work in a deck full to the top with lifelink creatures and life gaining cards, such as angels mercy, but it's tough, since your opponent will be attacking you, therefore probably lowering some of your life, awesome against no creature decks, such as time sieve.

The best use for this card that I have found is as the third win condition in my White-Black Sanguine Bond Deck. Between him, a Baneslayer Angel, and numerous copies of Child of the Night, I'm able to produce plenty of pain, and gain lots of life. I've also found that this works well in the mirror match, since the headstart in life makes it easy to get to 40

never liked the "You win the game" stuff
wizards its just making broken cards so if u wanna continue playing u HAVE TO buy new expansions, after invasion block, the game went straight down with a lil comeback in timespiral, this kind of card is a big fu you to the players who play extended, due standart mean change your deck all the time, and vintage means playing against decks that can win the game in turn 1 or even 0 wich i dont see interesting in a game. And now they put name to every freaking ability and make 1000 cards with it due their lack of creativity.... just go to the beloved dominaria card and art style and start doing things right again

@Sarroth: Archenemy goes like 2HG in that 40 applies only when your starting life is 20. It doesn't mean that you auto-win if you start at 40. Instead you have to gain life until you reach double your original life, which, as the archenemy, would be 80, making him not so overpowered.

Ugh, this thing is so stupid. Yet another self-fulfilling, overpowered mythic. With the copious amounts of health that can be gained these days in white and black, this thing is just waaay too overpowered.

MAYBE 50 health. I'd say even more than that. Also doesn't help the balance of the game that the creature itself has a decent-sized power with lifelink and vigilance.

This card will be just plain cheap in Archenemy if you're the solo player. Archenemy players start at 40 life, so as long as you don't lose life by the time you can play this card, you win the game. That'd just take the whole fun out of the new format.

@ChampionofSquee: You must be referring to your own playgroup's rules, because that is exactly how it works. There are no rulings on the card that change this card for those formats or points in the Comprehensive Rules that state that. Just like Serra Ascendant, Divinity of Pride, and poison, the life totals are set for these cards' abilities unless stated in the future. Though this doesn't stop playgroups from making their own x2 changes, as yours seems to have. I am all for that.

Strengths: Can hit and still block later.
Lifelink helps towards it's own win ability.

Weaknesses: Easily burned or killed.

Although it's easy to remove, the win condition is just too powerful to not have in a life-gain deck. Ajani, meet your new pet cat.

My Mono-White Control/Reanimator deck ussually rides into victory on this beast's back. I run Emeria, The Sky Ruin to pull him back from the grave, Celestial Mantle for steroids and Souls Attendant as his caretaker. Lots of white weenies pump my life total, then I double it, then I laugh maniacly at the look on my opponent's face when I tell him I've just won. It's also great in a Blue/ White Defender deck utilizing Perimeter Captain and lots of blockers.

Also, this is sick in EDH beyond belief, especially as a general. Sick but not OP unlike Zur the Enchanter or other beasts. He's fun but usually if you have enough life that they can't reduce it quickly you were going to win anyway (Exceptions exist but you know what I mean) 4.5/5

I wouldn't play this in EDH except as the Archenemy.

Firstly, the creature itself has a MASSIVE target on its head, of course.

Secondly, I think it might be a big enough offense to play this in a format as Casual Fun oriented as EDH that yet has so much pure power there that I would probably devote my next few turns to eliminating the player even after the cat is dead, and further I would be aggressive to them in the next game to remind them not to play it- I would back off before I did enough damage for it to really be called sabotage in Game 2, but Felidar Sovereign in EDH is a bit like Infect in Vanguard, with Mishra.

Actually I think, that this card is kinda broken in EDH, but since soo many people play a$$hole cards like Sorin Markov, or Serra Ascendant in EDH, I frankly don´t have the slightest feel of regret when I use this as a win condition in my Trostani, Selesnya's Voice deck.

Also comes great with the Winding Canyons to be able to flash it in before your turn starts.

Having a non-combat wincon is pretty handy at times; sometimes you just need to be able to win without punching the opponent in the face (metaphorically speaking). I was just playing my monowhite lifegain, complete with two of these, against a monogreen Eldrazi ramp deck. Like a noob I don't include much land destruction outside of green, as its rare to come up against decks in casual with need-to-answer lands. Of course, this fella was playing Eye of Ugin, which meant he could find new threats about as fast as I could answer them (Mistveil Plains + Well of Lost Dreams certainly helped a lot with that). Top decked this guy and planted him on 63 life, and knew I had it unless my opponent (whos Ulamog was exiled) drew into Lignify. He didn't, my win.

He's not a terrible beater himself, though loses to the 5 mana Baneslayer in terms of a combat wincon, but yeah, he's a nice alternate wincon in a lifegain deck.

WIthout a doubt my favorite win with this card was in my Well-Equipped Kittehz deck.

I was completely, totally manascrewed, having only gotten out to two lands, but had managed to get myself in pretty good position. Got Stoneforge Mystic out, tutoring for Umezawa's Jitte and cheated Deathrender into play on a Qasali Pridemage. As the Jitte is wont to do, I kept most of his creatures off the board, but I was having the most difficult time doing any damage, due to a combination of strong blockers and chump-blocking.

Finally, I sac'd the Pridemage to cheat this guy into play with Deathrender, and soon I had 22 life and 4 charge counters on the Jitte. Swung with the Sovereign, and my opponent didn't notice the threat. During my opponent's end step, I removed 6 counters from the Jitte to land at exactly 40 life.

Best manascrew recovery ever.
