this little Black Lotus even has a cantrip version, or something quite close to it. either Chromatic Star, the slightly inferior Chromatic Sphere or the certainly inferior slowtrip version, Barbed Sextant. there's no two-drop artifact without an activation cost out there yet, though.

Still a great card. Not too powerful that they can't reprint it. You listening wizards?..

For green decks, Lotus Petal seems inferior to Elvish Spirit Guide. Elvish Spirit Guide isn't restricted in Vintage, whereas this card is, and Elvish Spirit Guide can't be countered by the likes of Force of Will, afaik, since you're not casting it when you add the mana to your mana pool - you're simply taking advantage of it's ability.

Just goes to show you - Wizards crippled the original Black Lotus to 1/3 of it's power and it's still getting 5 stars all over the place. Me included.
This card is an awesome design (as was his ancestor). Very clean, very elegant and at the same time very flexible. Plus the flavor is so right: the name indicates it's just a part of a Black Lotus (a petal) and so is the mechanic.
What really makes this card is the flavor text - an obvious reference to magic players paying thousands of dollars for a piece of cardboard. Wonderful!
Considering the infamous real-world price of an actual Black Lotus, this card's flavour text is awesome.

I also play four of these in most of my casual decks. One free mana is always a great thing early in the game. Back in the days when Tempest came out, these cards were very, very, very cheap in our local stores and nobody was paying attention to them. I should have hoarded them all back then. Maybe i got a hundred pieces of Lotus Petals today that i can sell for almost 200% of it's original price. Well...

I got a playset of these from a 30 pound box of MTG that I bought for a hundred bucks along with a HUGE FREAKIN STACK OF RARES! Like seriously a 10 inch tall stack of rares. And like a eight hundred commons and four hundred uncommons. I finally have a substantial collection. :D I love Magic!

Card disadvantage for 1 mana isn't great unless you're really desperate or there's some big gain (unlikely). A good deck won't need these. It's near useless if it's not in your starting hand unless you're running a combo/affinity deck.
In general about as good as Elvish Spirit Guide or Simian Spirit Guide. Yes, those are only one color, but they're also creatures so they won't hurt as much if you draw them later on.
4/5, a good common, but definitely not the best.

I gotta agree with Orza, this card isn't this great. I used to own a few back when Tempest was still fairly recent-ish, and I gotta say, it rarely even got put into a deck. You'd think it was kinda good and try, but one extra mana for one turn really isn't that much unless you've got something really special that absolutely needs to be in play NOW. Probably some crappy first-turn-kill cheese that you got off the internet and spent a paycheck or two on that nobody wants to hear about or play against you with.
I will never understand competitive magic unless it's for big money.

Goes to show how powerful free mana is. After Black Lotus got sliced into three pieces and each one of those pieces still end up restricted.

This is good when combined with tons of card draw.
Speed up your first turns and when your deck starts rolling these things flow out like butter, boosting your artifact count and ramping your mana even farther to get more cards.
Its an okay card when used on its own. You can get out White Knight a tad faster, but you run into 2 for 1s.

Dark Ritual gets you more mana, and Sol Ring gets you repeatable mana. It's good for certain combos, but I'd say the others are in general better cards. Possibly the most overrated card in Magic, judging from some of these comments. Not that you can't use all of these cards together, but the fanboyism on this isn't really as deserved.

Okay, let's move away from the whole "not as good as Black Lotus/super good card/strictly worse than X" debate, and actually talk about the card's uses? I want to make an artifact combo deck for EDH and use this in it. Can anyone think of any good uses for it bar the obvious synergy with Salvaging Station and the others?
