On top of hating the art for this version of Lili, I think it isn't a very good card for Standard. Should cost {1}{B}{B}. Then we might be talking. This card isn't {B} enough, but it reminds me of Dark Ritual and how black used to have some decent mana acceleration. It can fetch Leechridden Swamp, Shocks, and at the very least thins your deck and allows you to hit consistent land drops in a color that doesn't usually do so. Good in EDH. 4.5/5.

i like her. i mean, shes no jace, and she will not single handedly dominate the format, but i consider that a good thing.
+1 - fetch a swamp. meh, there are better abilites, but this is the sort of power level i would expect from a +1 ability, and fetching a land is never a bad thing. -3 - target creature gets -x/-x (where x is # of swamps). to be honest, i would rather play a Mutilate, but if you keep her alive after this it becomes repeatable and discrimates, whereas Mutilate hits your own guys as well. -6 - swamps tap for 4. by the time you have triggered this you shouldnt need it (being on 7 lands), but it does let you cast spells with x's in them for cheap. Diabolic Revelation for example. or Magmaquake if you splash red. for green theres Primordial Hydra, whilst in grixis this lets you get Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker a turn early (assuming you already have the mountain and island). i cant actualy see this abilty ever being used in standard to be honest, but in EDH it could be a game ender. especialy with Diabolic Revelation.
overall, weak in standard (as in, there are better cards to play), but by herself is a strong card and might possibly see play in EDH and on the kitchen table.

I believe you folks are forgetting that Entreat the Angels is also in Standard. There is also much more potential for this card in Modern as well. I'm thinking a W/B build with Godless Shrine andUrborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth (did any of you see the giant spike in the price of that card?). The plan would be to stall for as long as possible to get Lili to ultimate by turn 7, then, if you're lucky, miracle Entreat the Angels for at least 20. a 5/5 in my books any day.

Pulled her at the prerelease. She's okay. She'll thin your deck and help you hit your land drops, and her -3 is handy as either removal or buffing your evasive guy (like my Tormented Soul). I might stick her in my monoblack infect.

I love it. Drop her, fetch, fetch, fetch, ulti, drop, say, Griselbrand on turn 6, with the rest of your hand, get it back, then drop some more. You end up basically playing your hand every turn. Can also be used well with Vampire Nocturnus, to both thin swamps out of your deck so vampires stay pumped, and as a free shuffle if there is a swamp on top. She doesn't singlehandedly win games, but she's sooooo useful, and goes very far with helping you win.
TL;DR: She generates card advantage out the ass, can kill /or buff/ (which a lot of people seem to ignore) a creature, and if her ulti goes off, there's so much you can do with it, even in standard. 5/5 in my book, for being the perfect utility card in my MBC.

I don't like it. Why? Because Mono black control is a modern deck. And modern mono black control already has two really really good four drops You know, that Abyssal Persecutor Guy? He has another angry rival contending for four drop, and Korlash does a much better job of ramping than Liliana. He actually ramps the lands right out! Oh, and you can corrupt like that. And it WORKS.

Someone else is welcome to correct me if I am wrong but I'm pretty sure your brother is right. To give an example, imagine you're running a deck with Venser, the Sojourner and he's in play and free to use his abilities, Liliana of Dark Realms comes into play and she uses her +1, then Venser can blink her out. The game rules dictate that the Liliana that returns to play is not the same one that left so she's free to use her +1 again. Same outcome, just a different scenario. The Liliana that your brother plays is regarded as a new instance of her and he's free to use its abilities.

ironically, Liliana is quite similar to the original garruk here, although they had a duel deck.
That ultimate is a mana accelerator's wet dream. If you can pull that off, you will have NO concern over mana for the rest of the game. sure, you may have to worry about lana destruction, but all X spells suddenly become nukes for you. The +1 helps quite a lot as well, since its a free lana, which can help you out in times of lana drought.
The -3 is also quite nice, but I feel its slightly overcosted, but having it cost -2 would make it too overpowered, too. still, being able to choose if its +x/+x or -x/-x is awesome.
anyways, if you run a black deck and need a black mana acceleration source without using dark ritual, here you go. just make sure to protect her.

What have you done to my beautiful, powerful Liliana? She used to tutor me anything my heart desired while keeping my opponent handless, or summon all the dead in a 3 mile radius to do my bidding, truly black. Now she fetches me land... or kills herself to maybe kill something else... or gives me late game mana ramp... I don't know. Maybe that land fetching is better in real life than in theory. each time you have no lands in hand and you don't draw a land, it's basically mana ramp... I really feel biased with this one. But one thing is for certain, that artist should have asked someone else for advice on the face, not sexy at all, as Liliana usually looks. Fetching land still doesn't feel black to me, but whatever, I'll give her a try. Shockland make her better I guess.

Each turn I would never want to waste 3 life on just FINIDING a land, but now I can get a Swamp for FREE. And then if I get to the Ultimate, I usually play Storm Herd, and Elesh Norn and others help me win. Also, Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth lets me run more non-basics :)

Her ultimate doesn't feel very ultimate to me. Sure, you've got a metric ton of b, but what are you going to do with it? At the very least, by the time you can pull off that ultimate, you're going to have at least 5 swamps out (2 you used to cast her, and 3 more you fetched with her), and probably a lot more than that. I was never a Liliana fan, then I saw this card in the spoiler and knew it was love. She takes care of me. At first it was enough to just get a swamp each turn. I liked not having to worry about weather or not I will get land, and hey this is card advantage, that sacred thing dreams are made of.
The thing about this card is, she provides four services, 1. Card advantage. 2. Removes land from your deck. 3. She can kill creatures. and 4. Her ultimate Provides almost limitless mana, enough to fuel any black combo.
Most importantly is that her +1 is good, really good. I hate relying on a planeswalker's ultimate to justify them, it just won't always happen. Good players know to stop these things and are prepared. But Liliana is cheap and all her abilities are good.
You can always dump the extra mana into shades if you're running mono black and don't have a better plan, I guess. Combo with a couple Liliana's Shades and her +1 ability to thin your deck of a crapload of swamps. Your draw chances ought to improve quite a bit, and the shade will be a very big potential creature before long.
For mono black control: She'll help mutilate cover your board wipes and get around Protection by providing swamps, her -3 ability will allow a more discretionary targeting of Indestructible creatures, and your Murders will then be allowed to take care of softer targets.
She does lack some of the outright power of other planeswalkers, but the combos are most certainly there. The most obvious being any card requiring X mana can be pumped like crazy. Outside of mono black she can shine even more.

I do like how she's clearly showing the strain of all the demon hunting and so forth. Before she was all mischievous and curvy, and now she's becoming worn, gaunt and moody. She'll probably hit full-on lichdom by her next iteration.
Card-wise, tutoring up a land constantly is nice for deck thinning, though that ultimate is only good for a really powerful X spell. But the middle ability always has uses - look at Ajani Vengeant, and the up and coming Ral Zarek.

Love this card. I prefer planeswalkers being balanced and not simply the best cards to have. They are always going to be cool so long as you don't make them suck, but they don't need to be brokenly overpowered or made into a staple card for the colour.
I use this in my Vish Kal EDH deck which is almost mono black to make use of cabal coffers and black-heavy card draw like necropotence.

@ Kaheedran: Staff of the Death Magus says: "Whenever you cast a black spell or a Swamp enters the battlefield under your control, you gain 1 life."
Lilianna says: "You get an emblem with "Swamps you control have ‘Tap: Add {B}{B}{B}{B} to your mana pool.'"
so, the planeswalker ability has nothing to do with "a Swamp enters the battlefield' - tapping for mana is entirely different. she CAN get you a land in hand, which can then be played and trigger the staff...

Oh, yes the card...um...
-
I like it since it begs to be used in a certain way (a deck based on but not exclusive to the number of swamps in play). And the ultimate...wow...I haven't seen a card begging for an X spell more than this one.
Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth does nothing to lands in your library, it effects lands you control, not land cards you own
Also, she looks like a man now. I think she stole Garruk's steroids after beating him up.
TL;DR: She generates card advantage out the ass, can kill /or buff/ (which a lot of people seem to ignore) a creature, and if her ulti goes off, there's so much you can do with it, even in standard. 5/5 in my book, for being the perfect utility card in my MBC.
Kefale is correct. It is viewed as a new card and is free to do what it can within the rules. If you could cloudshift a planeswalker, it would be become really op.
Venser is a terrible example, she would return in the end step and be unable to use her loyalty abilities regardless.
Use rings of brighthearth though. Every turn you have a walker and three mana to spend, there will be devastating results.
Honestly, in the deck I run them, I can't find even a par Lili, they are all amazing
In all seriousness, though, this is exactly how a planeswalker should be. Something small, something handy, and then something that makes people hate you for the next month or so, until they let you play again.
Also, can you imagine running her with Nirkana Revenant? Mmm MMM! That's the kind of sexy power black needs.
They really can't make up their minds, can they?
Its creepy.
Liliana is supposed to be a babe.
This chick looks gross.
I've decided it must be lilianas mentally disabled cousin.
Billyanna. From the deep deep south. Located in a shack in the swamplands. Merica.
But one thing is for certain, that artist should have asked someone else for advice on the face, not sexy at all, as Liliana usually looks. Fetching land still doesn't feel black to me, but whatever, I'll give her a try. Shockland make her better I guess.
Blood Crypt, Godless Shrine, Overgrown Tomb , and Watery Grave
If yes, then she might be super good for 3-5 color decks.
In my Evil EDH deck I probably won't ever actually buy with Maralen of the Mornsong as the cornerstone, this is the second card I search for, after Aven Mindcensor.
Also, @ Ike38: Yeah. The "Swamp" clauses refer to cards with the type "Swamp."
but im not so sure how it'll fare in today's legacy meta..
kinda like her innistrad incarnation better..
Black. Mana. EVERYWHERE.
Raven's Crime
Worm Harvest
Waterfront Bouncer
Mind Over Matter
Mageta the Lion
Jaya Ballard, Task Mage
Seismic Assault
Of course, you could just smash them long-game with Cursed Scroll.
Ultimate her to cast Magister Sphinx with Sorin's Vengeance, which can finish the game that turn...with 4 swamps out.
Card-wise, tutoring up a land constantly is nice for deck thinning, though that ultimate is only good for a really powerful X spell. But the middle ability always has uses - look at Ajani Vengeant, and the up and coming Ral Zarek.
5/5 for bringing back my Fav deck Lili, Mono Black Vampires!
I use this in my Vish Kal EDH deck which is almost mono black to make use of cabal coffers and black-heavy card draw like necropotence.
If I ever combine this card's -6 ability with debt to the deathless, it will be glorious.
@MattLynn
Why not sorin markov (-3 ability) + sorin's vengeance? That way, you can even stay in mono black.
But yeah, Cabal Coffers looks insane with this, even without going ultimate.
Staff of the Death Magus says:
"Whenever you cast a black spell or a Swamp enters the battlefield under your control, you gain 1 life."
Lilianna says:
"You get an emblem with "Swamps you control have ‘Tap: Add {B}{B}{B}{B} to your mana pool.'"
so, the planeswalker ability has nothing to do with "a Swamp enters the battlefield' - tapping for mana is entirely different.
she CAN get you a land in hand, which can then be played and trigger the staff...
1: Have enough creatures to get her ultimate without her being attacked
2: Attack opponent
3: Jack up an attacking creature, leaving at least 1BG, after blockers are declared
4: Sac that creature and get some AOE damage on everyone.
5: Bonus: give that creature life link before damage is dealt.
All my EDH opponents scooped that night.
Also combos with hydras.
