Welcome back, old friend. I like what you've done with your...uh...mane.
In monoblack (or with the Ravnica shocklands), this can and will still win many games. Just like it did back in its heyday. Can't wait to try.

I saw the new art for this in DOTP 2014. Once it was spoiled I was excited, but I was mostly hoping Chittering rats would get a reprint with its new art. Perhaps next time my friend. Glad to see this at least

I love this card. And the new art is amazing.

Nightmare has always had a special place in my withered black heart, and this new art is just plain awesome. This almost makes up for the ruined slivers

Nightmare is the reason I have begun building a mono black deck for M14. It won my my final game at the prerelease too! It's an amazing card that only gets more powerful and deadlier as the game progresses... Equip Mark of the Vampire to this and make it a nightmare worth remembering...
Oh, also, this card plus Lilliana of the dark realm's -3... Doubled attack!

This is an absolutely awesome artwork.
This is I feel a perfect card to use as reference for "How do we make cards look enough like homages to the old art styles while using the new styles to match better the more shiny new cards?" I mean honestly compare the Xth Nightmare to the Alpha Nightmare to THIS Nightmare, and it's immediately obvious that the Xth one is the worst art of the lot, just because this is so much like the Alpha art and it's a very tough call between the two.
I really, really want to see more art directions say "Look at M14 Nightmare. Do that, only for this card. Make it look New, the Old-Fashioned way." I think it can even be applied to cards that don't yet have old-fashioned artworks!
In fact I'm going to have to write into Jeremy Jarvis about this one. Who did that? Vance....Kovaks? (squinting) Yeah he's a cool man. A very cool man.
Nightmare is awesome because I think it's one of the first cards that really really scales in power with "Shock Logic"-- ie, it makes you actually think about non-Basic Swamps. I'm sure back in the day people had heated arguments about how much better it was than Shivan Dragon. Probably the truth is Shivan Dragon is the one that's actually better, but this card is still really freaking cool. It's possible that, sadly, like Serra Angel, we will see it downgraded to uncommon before it dies out. But I can confidently guarantee you we *will* see it again, either at Rare or Uncommon.
And when we do, it needs to have this artwork. Duh.

What crappy art, it fills only half of the card, it looks like a little plastic horse, liked the old art better. Still glad to see it back though.

Maybe it's just me, but I feel like there are a couple of artworks that are quite creepy, but don't appear to be as much within the modern card frame. It's like the orderly frame can 'de-creep' the art. This printing would be such a case - I feel like this artwork would be more intimidating in the old frame. Likewise, I imagine Abomination for example would be less frightening (albeit just as disgusting) in a modern frame.

A plain-old "nightmare" is in fact a "nightmare horse"? Whatever happened to truth in advertising?

New Art! I love when they reprint cards with new art, it makes it worthwhile to collect a play set again.. Who needs 20 copies of a card with the same artwork? They should make new art every time they do a reprint...
Nightmare itself is such a staple mono black card. It is to Black as Serra Angel is to white. A classic, reliable "go to" card. When Nightmare hits the table, he should be a powerful 6/6 Flyer and only gets better as you drop more lands...
Happy to see the reprint with new art. Good work Wizards!
It's a creature that's always on curve. And that's bad. BAD.

6/6 flying for 6 that can grow is not too shabby.
