Should be interesting to see who breaks this card first.

It's expensive, and if you just tutor up one card, that makes it worse than Diabolic Tutor. Probably has a secure home in Commander though, where you can just pick up all your combo pieces and go to town.

EDH all the way.

Very nice with the new Liliana if you get off her ultimate.

1. Omniscience.

I KNOW ABOUT THE RULE FOR 'X'S, just READ ON!

2. Boundless Realms Boundless Realms Boundless Realms Boundless Realms :D

SEE? I know what I'm doing :)

I don't promise it's the best idea out there, but I like it anyway :)

In any old EDH deck, this card will be merely good in the late game. In tuned decks, this card should win the game the turn it is cast or the next.

It's sort of a semi-replacement for Increasing Ambition.

Interesting, because in most cases you only need ONE card from your deck to handle a situation (Damnation, Engineered Explosives), so the when you need multiple key cards is when you want to set up a lock or a executing a combo.

However, if your deck is build to create such lock/combo you would have other cheaper ways to give you access to them already, like multiple copies of the key cards, tutors, early draws, etc, instead of wanting a X3BB card to give you that benefit.

But above case is about a regular 60 cards deck. Diabolic Revelation is going to be great fun in EDH.

Breaks my deck wide open. I usually run 250 or so cards, so things like this (Conflux is a great example) I love. ^_^

@ atemu1234: This isn't genuinely breaking it, but I think the value of this card increases if you're playing to discard it and you have Altar of the Lost and some way to give this Flashback. As well as normal mana acceleration.

@ JarieSuicune: This helps, but Battle of Wits would probably break your deck more (but of course people will expect it as soon as they see the deck).

Think of it as you wish, but this is actually quite playable in mono Black control.

@ deadapult13

Increasing Ambition sees tons of play in EDH at the present time. Sinking 13 mana into playing that card twice yields you a meager 3 cards. Sinking 12 into this one yields a perfect late-game 7-card hand. While the first may be more practical because you can pay each part seperately as with Think Twice, this is the Fireball of tutors. And Fireball is much more flexible than Firebolt. I play in a meta where infinite combos are employed only to end the game against certain abusive decks, or not at all. And while there's certainly plenty of ways to outright win the game with exactly 3 cards, my friends prefer truly epic plays like this.

This card isn't good. It's not going to be "broken". 6 mana tutors are bad. Cards like Gifts Ungiven can fetch you multiple cards and cost 4. EDH won't play it because every other tutor is better. This is a bad card. It somehow manages to be worse than the OK Diabolic Tutor.

@DacenOctavio

-Increasing Ambition sees play when A. you're not running good tutors and/or B. You're playing from your GY (thus, it isn't wasting away in your hand the whole game.)

-You are saying a card is good because you can sink 13 mana into it to make it good. I'll let you figure out the big flaw there.

-Where is this Fireball comparison coming from? X damage spells kill on their own. If you have the mana to dump into this and make it "good", then you can dump that mana into and a X damage spell and kill them in one turn instead.

-Since when did dumping a ton of mana into an X spell, then waiting a turn and hopefully having enough mana to play your 3-card combo become epic?

I understand it might be fun, but that's all subjective--it has nothing to do with how good a card is.

Holy shit, this is awesome! Even if it's not particularly good, it's the first time we've seen something like this, and who knows what the future will bring? When one such pioneer has been made, there's hopefully bound to follow more cards like it.

First thought was: this is to much expensive... But I have to Commander deck that have black, so in the middle game, I can get the combo I need if I have this card in hand. And for construct, I now play this with Korlsah, Heir the Blackblade and Liliana's shade. So I get enough mana, and what I do is to search my library for ALL my Korlash, use Grandeur hability, and then get them back in hand with Ghoulcall'er's Chant to make Grandeur again. So if the game is going good for me, I can have easily half if not all my land on the table! This card is tricky to play, but in the right deck, this can make some awesome combo. You juste need to make sure your deck can make you live till you cast this, and in some case, THAT can be the problem.

I really like this card. Black has another really nice tutor in EDH now. I can't wait for the prerelease to try my hand at pulling this and a few other cards for my EDH decks.

EDIT: Insane power level. Even at X=2 it tutors for two cards, which can win you the game in the format, next turn. I usually cast for X=5, tutor up Omniscience, a manaless counter (Such as Force of Will or Foil, and three Planeswalkers (Usually Tamiyo, Nicol Bolas, and Jace), then proceed to win the next turn, barring Krosan Grip, which, to be honest, does show up occasionally to ruin my day.

Wasn't sold on this card, then saw a couple of times in limited, holy GOD this card has potential. Favourite combination I've seen it tutor up was a Stuffy Doll + Phylactery Lich - three games in a row. And yeah, this thing is nuts in EDH, one step below (the now sadly banned) Griselbrand in terms of feeding sick combos

This card can tutor up combos? That is a powerful ability.

I know, EDH. But still, black = pain for power. Where's the pain? How about:

"Search your library for up to X cards and put those cards into your hand. Lose 1 life for each card you put into your hand this way. Then shuffle your library."

Sort of a Yawgmoth's Bargain, no? Don't get me wrong, this is a sweet black power. But still, I think something's missing here.

Combos with Liliana of the Dark Realms's emblem. Tap 2 swamps for 3 cards, or 3 for 7, or 4 for 9....

I'm a big fan of mana-ramping decks. Let me tell you, this thing can be insane when you're able to REALLY pour mana into it. Ah, green, you make ALL the crazy spells in the other colours awesome.

The only deck that I have this is my Door To Nothingness Deck. After Boundless Realms secures the required 14+ mana, I use 7 to search for a Fog and Door, 5 to put down the door, 1 to save for the fog, and still have 1 mana left for shenanigans.

Certainly too expensive for most competitive formats, but in casual it has its place as a powerful card in the right decks. As most people have realised, with x as little as 2 or 3 you're able to assemble powerful combo pieces that should cinch up the game for you.

Personally, I've included it in a mono-black ramp/control style of deck, that ramps via Urborg + Cabal Coffers (with 4x Ex Map and 4x Beseech the Queen as land tutors, though Beseech is flexible enough to tutor for anything else should I not need more ramp). For x=3, I assemble my singleton combo from the deck - Darksteel Forge, Mycosynth Lattice and Fracturing Gust, and unless they're playing blue or include the rarely-seen-in-casual artifact exile cards like Revoke Existence, you'll wipe out all your opponents - even in multiplayer!

Typically I'll include this card as a 2-of in the deck, or 1-of with a way to fetch it out of the graveyard. Using one of your cards to get another one to refill your hand later is just evil.

This thing suckors. It was so close to being useable - this should have been BBB1X or screw it B3X and it would have shown up in decks. Perhaps if it was an instant. The standard format is too competitive right now and using this card basically costs you a full turn. I agree with other posters, perhaps 4 mana and pay 2 life per card...or pay 1 life for 1st card, 2 for 2nd 3 life for 3rd etc. As it stands now this thing sucks. In commander yeah very limited use for a gimmick deck. This card as a rare is a miss.

This is not really tier 1 edh but its a budget tutor that works well. I used to use it as a back up plan for a ghave deck which produced obscene amounts of mana. Right now it's my back up plan for teysa edh if I don't combo out turn 5-6 ill use the beatdown express until I draw this

Picked up a copy of this card. Don't have a deck for it. Looks kinda unplayable. Still, I like it and I don't know why :)

edit: so I put this card in a Grixis deck alongside Nicol Bolas and I gotta say, I love it. As soon as I get seven lands on the field, I can tutor up bolas and the extra land I need so that turn 8 he's wrecking shop. Despite the prohibitive cost, this thing is a beast and being able to tutor up as many cards as I can pay for it an awesome way to grab whatever I need later in the game. Probably don't need more than a 1 of in any deck but its worth it.

use it with a Call to Mind and Elixir of Immortality. i played a game earlier today where i cast Diabolic Revelation 3 times and when won the game i had a Diabolic Revelation in my hand. i only own one. pulled everything i wanted out of my deck numerous times and was recycling everything.

How about you whimps be real men and learn how to play this card in standard 1v1 duels. This has allowed me to counterlock people. Grab another one of these, dissipate, and elixir of immortality. Fueled by the powerful Gilded Lotus.

After destroying my friend several times we decided to trade decks to see how I'd fare with his cards. He had this in his deck and I never survived long enough to cast this card. The worst part was that even if I was able to cast it for x=4, there was nothing in his deck that was worth tutoring. We spent the next hour building him a new deck.

I can think of so many better cards to play for 7 mana other than a tutor 2.

Can be used in Tendrils of Agony decks to utilize all of that mana you just ramped. Go grab more things that ramp or cast for neutral mana such as Priest of Gix, Blood Pet, Rituals, and more.

Works well next to urza-tron and green. Consider G/B Lotus Cobra decks as a model for how you can ramp a ton of mana very quickly, grab whatever your combo pieces are, then finish out next turn. You can get 7+ mana T4 without any problem, and that's enough to grab your Ultimatum, Harrow, and if you have any extra, grab something else, possibly another harrow!

I like the flavor of this card a lot. Art, name, function and rarity-wise it says "hey, I'm a bigger Diabolic Tutor." And I like that! I like the implication! An Infernal Revelation? Mystical Revelation? Idyllic Revelation? I was a big fan of how Time Spiral block tied in existing cards, and this is a good example.

Function-wise, I can see it being either lackluster or hilarious, depending on the format. If you're rockin' a crazy casual Cabal Coffers/Dark Ritual orgy of black mana ramp, then this is fantastic. Otherwise, it's probably only going to find real utility in a protracted battle and make you sigh when it takes up a spot in your hand too early to use and just sits there.

This card basically states "If you have the mana, I'll get you everything you need to win the game". There is literally nothing in the world better then casting this for 7 as the last card in your hand. Probably the most blatantly powerful black card in EDH. It's like a black enter the infinite.
