Woo! I'm the first person to post for this one as well! I happen to be a Johnny-Timmy-Melvin. A Vorthos I am not. People who play magic are supposedly planeswalkers, right? So why is Johnny there a legendary and not a PW? Now that I think of it, actually, even THAT wouldn't be right. Players are what's called "old" planeswalkers, really uberpowerful. However, after the planar chaos, no more uberplaneswalkers were born. A new breed of PW began being created after that event. They were less powerful, and capable of being expressed on a single card, i.e., the pw cards. If Johnny was really a player-style planeswalker, he wouldn't even be fittable on a PW card.

well, unglued and unhinged both released before the planeswalker cardtype was born. timmy and johnny were legends, maybe the third un-set provides us with a "spike" planeswalker, who knows...
btw, i'm a big johnny fan! he's my paragon of magic. ;)
and i love the artwork :) although i can't recognize the backmost cards.

Pretty certain the card by his left ear is Cadaverous Bloom and the one on the right is definitely Mind Over Matter

Starting from bottom-front and working back in the spiral, the cards shown in the artwork are: Soul Foundry, Recycle, Clock of Omens, Urza's Contact Lenses, Cadaverous Bloom, and Mind over Matter. He is holding a copy of himself, and the artwork on his shirt is Stifle. If I had 33 mana open, I would definitely search for those eight cards, leaving a blue free to play the Stifle on the Protean Hulk he is obviously about to Flash in.

Also, I don't see why this is silver bordered. It is just like Planar Portal, except better in cost and use, but worse in that it dies to basically any removal.

I like timmy more but a blue-green deck with timmy & Johnny would be devistating with the possibilities. Just would need shoud (aka Robe Of Mirrors)...

Ironically, this combos really well with Timmy, Power Gamer.

That's an alright combo, but nothing an Imi Statue, memnarch, and an aether snap can't handle.

Yet again, a card that benefits from liberal use of Training Grounds.

You know, aside from the art, name, and creature type, the cards mechanics and costs are pretty well balanced.

If they ever make a 3rd "Un" set, I expect Spike will be an extremely efficient Planeswalker with 3 utilitarian, game-defining abilities, and would, had it not been printed in an "Un" set, be included in every Standard deck in the format.

Judging by the pattern, it's obvious what Spike's ability is:

7: Search your library for a creature card and put it onto the battlefield.

if i'm going to play this, it will be on turn five after i drop my spatula on turn for and sack it for my mox lotus. then i can use Johny to search for my spell counters and my gleemax. then they just forfeit.

@BooGoo:

Because planeswalkers hadn't been created by the time this was printed.

They were going to make a Spike card, but they decided to wait till Worldwake to print Jace, the Mind Sculptor.

They need to make a third "un" set with this and a card called Spike, Combo Breaker. They could make the new one a planeswalker.

Spike, Combo Breaker

+2 Search your library for a card from any "un" set and put it on top of your library.

-3 Search your library for a card named "Johnny, Combo Player" or "Timmy, Power Gamer" and put it into your hand.

-7 Target player can't cast spells from any block other than unhinged, unglued, or "new un block"

Hey look they made a card out of me. How thoughtful :)

Might I suggest the following update, though?

Parallax of Doom---2UB

Legendary Creature- Human Horror

When Parallax of Doom is countered, you may search your library for up
to two cards, and put them into your hand. Then discard your hand.

"I pick....Knowledge Pool, and Rooftop Storm. Prepare for all hell to break loose."

EDIT: anyone wondering about the wording, consider it the Ultimate Test of Johnnyness. It's not question of 'is it broken?', but rather 'what is the answer? HOW do I break this?'

Aside form being a creature and being an un-card, this is strictly better than Jaemdaye Tomb and Treasure Trove

Here is a thought to ponder. If he is holding a copy of himself (in card form), how is the art finished? When drawing the card, the card's art was not complete, so the drawn copy could not be finished (it was still in production).

So either he is holding an illegal (well, more than usual) copy of himself or, if properly zoomed, that copy is holding a copy as well into infinity, much like when you hold two mirrors face-to-face.

@DarthParallax: Uh, let's try this:

Use Word of Command, Nether Void, or Fold into Æther to counter it, then something like Open the Vaults to bring everything back. Use Conspiracy to make use of Rooftop Storm, allowing you to cast Primordial Sage for 0 and subsequently the rest of the creatures in your deck, but only after you've played Mana Severence to make sure you don't hit any lands, of course. Knowledge Pool will f*** up your opponents' attempts to stop the combo, if nothing else.

But Knowledge Pool alone is enough to make all hell break loose.

As for breaking it without using Knowledge Pool or Rooftop Storm, the easy example would be using it to help dredge up four Vengevines while using Nether Void for protection. Also combos with Unburial Rites/Dread Return and any game-winning creature when paired with something as simple as Force Spike or something as overwhelming as Fold into Æther. For the latter, Sapphire Medallion would help make the cost reasonable.

I'm living the Johnny, Combo Player dream.

If Wizards makes a Spike card in the next Un set, may I suggest the following flavor text?

"You don't have to wait. I already have you right where I want you."

No, Spike's flavor would read something about Doomblade or Storm Crow...

Guys, stop hating on his combo. It's an infinite token, infinite mill colorless combo in one block! I know it's pretty obvious, but still, I don't see anyone else coming up with something like that.

I know someone in my comic store's EDH playgroup who asked, "Can we use unhinged cards in EDH?"
He says he doesn't have any cards from there, but I don't go to his house and see his collection (Because I don't really know him!).

My argument was, "Unhinged/Unglued had too many cards that'd just wreck the whole game. Imagine if someone was using Johnny, Combo Player as a general. First tutor would be Training Grounds, second would be Heartstone (MAYBE), third plus would be who-gives-a-diddlydick. Also, imagine Richard Garfield as a general. Remember that time Storm Crow turned into a Time Walk? Well, know you do. And Mox Lotus? Gleemax? There're too many ways to cheat in cards like that (master transmuter for one)."

I guess I was a little harsh, because he never came back after that. I mean, I wasn't trying to sound mean, but seriously? If you want to "spice up the game", just play Scrambleverse.

Step 1 - Make infinite mana (won't explain how, it's Johnny so you should be there by now)
Step 2 - Mirrorweave into a Lighthouse Chronologist
Step 3 - Add 99 level counters to Johnny
Step 4 - Take a new turn
Step 5 - Johnny is now a level 99 Human Gamer
Step 6 - Enjoy the flavor

Guys, no...
Spike
Legendary Creature -- Human Gamer
Indestructible, Shroud
When Spike leaves the battlefield, or it's controller loses the game, transform all creatures and turn all non-token permanents face down. (They're 2/2 creatures.)
(0/1)

So when spike loses, he flips the table.
