I've been playtesting this.. my weakest drop with this so far has been 12 damage worth of dudes - highest was 60. Not to be underestimated in any artificing wizard's arsenal.
nothing beats 'thopter foundery'ing everything the turn before you play this. cycling glassdust has never felt so good.

UltimaCenturion the card is white because it also brings back enchantments

★☆☆☆☆ (1.6/5.0)(8 votes)
But still...its not like even anyone who plays white is going to be chucking their own enchantments into their graveyard, and face it, artifact-destruction is a lot more common than enchantment destruction. And by your logic, they should make it white AND blue, since it ALSO raises artifacts. This card will be a lot more efficient in a blue deck, especially an Esper deck, not in white decks. And, as SavageBrain said, more darksteel colossi are going to be raised with this thing than "Honor of the Pure"s.

Just want to make sure I'm not missing anything here... I like this card but I had to abandon the idea of bringing back a Darksteel Colossus. The Colossus never stays in a graveyard right? It gets shuffled back in the library instead no?

as has been said, this is best used in esper colors. however, its place needs to be taken by sharuum the hegemon for the mirror match, no fun bringing your opponent's stuff back too =/

This card CANNOT bring Darksteel Colossus back, seeing as Mr. Darksteel is shuffled into your library if it were to end up in a graveyard. This takes place before you can open the vaults.

Time Sieve, Kaleidostone, Font of Mythos, Etherium Sculptor, a bunch of mana ability artifacts such as Borderposts or Obelisks, Tezzeret the Seeker for another Kaleidostone. Sac what u wont need to use Open the Vaults next turn, then bring em all back, rinse repeat solong as u have or can get an Open the Vaults and use it the next turn, then Tezz 3rd ability to make the remaining artifacts 5/5

Saw one of these against a mill deck at Game Day yesterday. The Mill player did not look happy when three quarters of his opponents deck went onto the field.

What if this is the first spell you cast this turn, and you bring back a Maelstrom Nexus? Is Open The Vaults considered to be still on the stack when the nexus resolves? Would open the vaults get a cascade, or would Nexus' ability just fizzle?
Thoughts?

when you "open the vaults" if there are artifact creatures in the graveyard, do they have summoning sickness when they enter the battle field. for example if glassdust hulk enters the battlefield as a response to "open the vaults" resolving, does it get the benefit of +1/+1 counters (with other artifacts comming into play) and being unblockable ?? can i attack that turn or does the art. creatures have summoning sickness ??
Nikeyeia
☆☆☆☆☆ (0.0/5.0)
@Morphling1005: The creatures still have summoning sickness unless they have haste. If you stack the cards so that Glassdust comes into play first, it gets the +1/+1 bonuses and becomes unblockable, but it won't be able to attack.
About the flavor text: "When the vaults are empty, everyone is rich." Wtf? More likely "You are rich."

I thought about making a casual deck with this and Mirror Gallery along with the Shrines (see below if you don't know them) and some way to get a lot of my cards in my graveyard. Mill myself or something like that, dredge possibly.
I don't know if the legendary enchantments would survive if they came into play at the same time as Mirror Gallery of if I would have to get that out ahead of time. (?)
Alright, how's this? Blue and White artifact deck... If the draw permits it, turn 5-cast Traumatize on your on library; turn 6-Open the Vaults.

Yixlid Jailer doesn't work either. "If Darksteel Colossus would be put into a graveyard from anywhere, reveal Darksteel Colossus and shuffle it into its owner's library instead."
It never goes to the graveyard. It goes straight back to the deck.

I was overruled by a Judge in the last FNM when I said that auras couldn't enchant something else coming into play with Open the Vaults.
Needless to say my opponent putting +10+10 trample and annihilator 2 on one of those creatures totally sealed the round for him.
Totally ***ed off atm. Srsly, judges freaking hate me.
Which leads me to a common misconception about this card.
You DO NOT choose the order that the cards come into play. You DO choose the order that "when this comes into play...." effects go onto the stack.
Also be weary. If your opponent asks you "What order are you putting them on the stack?" remember to say them in reverse order to how you want them to resolve. Its a simple trick to totally mess you up. It may not matter, but if it does and you get it wrong you'll regret it. It's also unnerving as hell having a judge called on you cause you can't resolve a stack correctly.

1) Mill yourself (within reason) with the Grinding Station combo. 2) Watch your opponent's perplexed look. 3) Play Open the Vaults. 4) Laugh uncontrollably.
4/5 Costs a -LOT- but worth the look on your opponent's face. Hope they don't have a Shatterstorm or two with them.

Run it in an artifact deck with journeys and o-rings.
I would think that Open the Vaults would have to resolve before the Nexus leaves the graveyard, so it wouldn't have Cascade.

@Bauble and ecussion I believe Snakeform will put Darksteel Colossus in the graveyard and leave him there. He won't have his ability until he's already in the graveyard and because it's a replacement effect it will never activate. Convoluted combo just to get a fatty in a graveyard however. Just stick with Inkwell Leviathan

@Nickkom: I'd say not. Open the Vaults has to resolve before anything comes back, so it wouldn't remain on the stack while all your artifacts and enchantments get rezzed.

Sadly, nothing you wouldn't already see happen. Mycosynth Lattice reads:
All permanents are artifacts in addition to their other types. All cards that aren't on the battlefield, spells, and permanents are colorless. Players may spend mana as though it were mana of any color.
Cards in a graveyard aren't permanents.

With spells like Rule of Law, orb of Dreams, Null Rod, Illusions of Grandeur, Psychic Battle, Howling Mine, and Feroz's Ban just to name a few, your opponents will usually choose your permanents to be destroyed.
