o god this card. I remember this from when I first started and had fun with my big simple creatures. then some douche would come into the playground and ask me if I knew what a combo was. well thank you so much for raping my face.

The grandfather of all combos. For a look at the noble history of this card, check out:

This card works best when you keep an extra copy in your lap.

No card advantage quite like the card advantage you get when you cheat.

If you have 4 out can you exile 1 card for 8 mana?

P.S. Thanks. That was a cool article!

@land_comment: Sorry, but you cannot. Exiling the card is a cost- you can't pay multiple different costs with the same card.

Ah yes, cheating has never felt so awesome.

What's all this about cheating?

@NeoKoda This card is the "Bloom" part of the combo deck Prosperous Bloom (the other part is Prosperity). Former pro player Mike Long was match lossed at Nationals while piloting the deck when someone noticed an extra copy of Cadverous Bloom sitting in his lap.

Combos rather nicely with Greed, but I suppose that's beside the point.

Throw in Words of Worship and we'll restart the conversation.

Exile a card: Add BlackBlack.
Black: Draw a card and lose 2 life.
1Black: Gain 3 life.

To cut a long story short, this combination allows you to turn any card in your hand into:
1) A Black or Green Rite of Flame that can only be cast for 0 (instead of its normal Red);
2) An Inspiration that can only be cast for 4 life (instead of its normal 3Blue);
3) A Catalog that can only be cast for 1 life (instead of its normal 2Blue);
4) A Healing Salve (roughly) that can only be cast for 0 (instead of its normal White);
in addition to giving you access to a permanent Channel at double the life-cost, as well as the abilities of each enchantment on its own.

____________How That Works____________
Exile a card for BlackBlack. (-1 cards, +2 mana, +0 life) (Rite of Flame)
Spend that BlackBlack and 4 life to draw two cards. (+1 cards, +0 mana, -4 life) (Inspiration)
Exile a second card for BlackBlack. (+0 cards, +2 mana, -4 life) (Pseudo-Channel)
Spend that 1Black to gain 3 life. (+0 cards, +0 mana, -1 life) (Catalog)

Exile a card for BlackBlack. (-1 cards, +2 mana, +0 life)
Spend that 1Black to gain 3 life. (-1 cards, +0 mana, +3 life) (Healing Salve)
______________________________________

Then why not add in Well of Lost Dreams?
Variable ColorlessBlack: Draw X-1 cards and gain 3 life. X cannot be less than 1 or more than 6.
Exile 2 cards -> BlackBlackBlackBlack -> 3Black: Draw two cards and gain 3 life.
Exile 3 cards -> BlackBlackBlackBlackBlackBlack -> 5Black: Draw four cards and gain 3 life.
Exile 4 cards -> BlackBlackBlackBlackBlackBlackBlackBlack -> 6BlackBlack: Draw five cards, gain 3 life, and add Black to your mana pool.
Exile 4 cards -> BlackBlackBlackBlackBlackBlackBlackBlack -> 6BlackBlack: Draw six cards and gain 1 life.

You will probably win after that, so long as you don't make a mistake and exile your win method(s) without a way to get it/them back. After all, with 36 cards left in your library you can get through six cycles, leaving you with 16 cards of your choice from those 36. That would leave you with 4 cards after Cadaverous Blooming 11 of them to fuel a Drain Life or Exsanguinate.

Sanguine Bond will also make short work of your opponents in this situation.

just barely misses out on being Vault-able. Sadly reserved. Is now the most 'Needs New Art' of all the Old Broken Shit cards, since the Vintage 2011 Championships got Time Walk taken care of.

Basically, allows every card you have to be a better Dark Ritual or a Green Dark Ritual in a pinch. Net mana gain is the same as from Ritual, but no activation cost means this can be used if you're all tapped out, which is awesome.

I finally figured out how to break it in the Commander format, using only green and black. Reassembling Skeleton + Skullclamp + this will net you a mana every time you loop it, giving you one mana for every two cards in your deck. Roughly 30-40 mana, depending on when you do it, giving you more than enough to set up a Mirror of Fate + Riftsweeper combo to get infinite mana and cycle to exactly the card you need. Cards like Withered Wretch make it easy to exile the Mirror and the 'Sweeper.

Every card effectively becomes dark ritual??

Very, very broken.
