Strictly better Vine Trellis.
The lack of a plant creature type irks me.

Why doesn't this card have Plant Wall as its types?

you hear me wizards? update this cards creature types.

This can be incredible in the right deck. Having even 2 or 3 out with another wall just makes your mana fly. As a 0/4 it will even take more than a lightning bolt to take it down.

Vine Trellis is still good I think, especially with this.

While this card is good (and fun) enough to see play, I notice the clear lack of a real de***ive creature type. This really is disappointing to me, because I am playing it alongside wall of roots which is a plant.

This is a really good card in the right deck. But if you're running Joraga Treespeaker, Llanowar Elves or Arbor Elf is better because the'll tap for GreenGreen in a few turns, as well as give elf-synergy.

Awesome, but it makes me even more mad that Wall of Blossoms was colorshifted to white instead of simply reprinting it with no changes. Screw white.

I don't think people realize how ridiculous this is. It's Priest of Titania that trades to a far inferior tribe but gains the ability not to die to Lightning Bolt.

Then you realize how broken Titania is and it sinks in.

Seriously underrated.

the only thing that disappoints me is that there aren't more green defenders in RotE. otherwise this card would be completely insane when comes to mana ramp. automatic four-of for me.

Pulled THREE of these plus a Treespeaker at the Prerelease. I played green.

Just imagine if you had 4 of these bad boys on the field, and they're not the only creatures you control with Defender :O ... Green: not my favorite color, but i'll arrange one with Overgrown Battlement for my GF :D

Four of these in play = 16 mana.

Damn...let that sink in for a bit.

awesome card. yeah, that lack of "plant" type seems like an accident.

Makes for the new "Hyper Bant Defense Deck" along with Wall of Denial :D In all seriousness, a decent sized body and effect, great for limited and will probably see some use in constructed formats.

Turn 1 - Forest
Turn 2 - Land drop, Overgrown Battlement
Turn 3 - Tap lands for 2nd Battlement, tap first Battlement to bring out 3rd.
Then do what you want with the 13 mana you can produce on your 4th turn (if you have land drops 3rd and 4th turns).

So this guy is basically my win-con in my Red-Green Defender deck.
the mana I get from it is used for a huge Banefire/Fireball.

Vine Trellis is strictly worse, but also strictly cooler.

Hot chick > bunch of plants.

Speaking of plants, why isn't this one?

This stops Jund. Lightning Bolt does't fry it, Bloodbraid Elf can't get through, and Sprouting Thrinax is stopped dead. The only Jund cards that kill this are Bituminous Blast and Putrid Leech. It also ramps you into cards like Khalni Hydra and Thornling. Almost as good as Wall of Omens.

Here's something for you Pauper players (all commons!):

Turn 1 - Forest, Tinder Wall, Shield Sphere
Turn 2 - Land, Overgrown Battlement
Turn 3 - Land, tap out and sacrifice the Tinder Wall: Ulamog's Crusher

The basis of a fun deck containing defenders, tutors and manabarbs.

When the opponent(s) realize what you are up to, get ready to be the #1 target at the table.

Maan, Wizards, PLEASE print more defender synergy cards. Another green version of overgrown battlement would be awesome. It'd give a nice alternative to elves for mana ramping and actually make some defender decks viable (especially with cards like vent sentinel, battle rampart and perimeter captain in the mix). DO IT!!! =D

I think it isn't a plant wall because it isn't the wall itself that is "planty", but the stuff that is growing uncontrollably all over it.

As for the rest of it, this card dumps out mana if you have 4 of them. But even if you have just 1 in your deck, it's still good!

Combine with Sprouting Phytohydra, Coat of Arms, and any method of doing 1 damage to all creatures repeatedly (such as Pestilence or Pyroclasm) for nearly endless mana VERY fast. Now throw in any card that takes tons of mana (Eldrazi? Banefire?) and instant win.

This would be fun with Thallid Shell-Dweller and Utopia Mycon. Not overkill, but fun in multiplayer.

Beast within and Wall of Tanglecord have great synergy with this wall. Destroy their key card and watch them feel cheated as their 3/3 beast does nothing against your 0/4 wall. Then next turn drop a 0/6 defender that stops Caw-blade in its tracks, and is good until around turn 6 when the titan's land on the field....that is if you don't turn them in to 3/3's as well.

Possibly the best wall we've received in green in years. Reach would have been nice, but if the vines can't overgrow the battlement skyward it's understandable. :)

Also: most badass flavor text to ever appear on a wall.

Our enemy is nothing less than the end of all life. We shall not want for allies.

This was standard.
Turn 1: Forest
Turn 2: Eldrazi Temple, Overgrown Battlement
Turn 3: Mountain, Harrow (sac forest, put out a forest and a mountain), Overgrown Battlement, Overgrown Battlement
Turn 4: Land, Overgrown Battlement, Emrakul
Extra Turn: Kozelik, Draw into Ulamog, a land, Goblin Bushwacker, and storm crow.
land drop, Ulamog, Bushwacker kicked. Swing for 42 with annihilator 14.

The odds are astronomical but hilarious.

just get out a couple of these and their mana value is their amount squared.
1 = 1 mana
2 = 4 mana
3 = 9 mana
4 = 16 mana
and any other defender cards just ramp it up even more. Great for eldrazi decks or anything that costs a ton of land.

If you're playing green and you could use a wall, you can't go wrong with this guy. Even without other walls, he's very nice.

I like 'tribal support' for tribes that aren't obvious or otherwise over-done - like walls or giants. They're cool because walls don't generally attack and giants aren't meant for efficient one-on-one 'engineering problem' Magic. You play giants primarily to have fun - winning is just unintentional extra.

Strictly better than Vine Trellis. I don't care what the terminology nazis say, Vine Trellis being a "plant" is not an advantage (unless you use Avenger of Zendikar, I guess).

I have this wall in a massive Wurm deck, that contains the following:
4 - Overgrown Battlements
2 - Wall of Tanglecord (When all six walls are out and active, a possible 24 mana is available for tapping)
4 - Carnage Wurm (Bloodthirst 3)
4 - Worldspine Wurm (If Wurm dies, it goes back into your library and you get 3 5/5 wurms to replace it)
4 - Pelakka Wurm (Gain 7 life upon entering battlefield, draw a card when wurm dies)
2 - Engulfing Slagwurm (Instantly destroys any creature that blocks it or it blocks and you gain life equal to those creatures power)
2 - Primordial Hydra (It enters the battlefield with X +1/+1 counters. At the beginning of your next upkeep, those counters double. At 10+ counters, you gain trample)
4 - Garruk's Packleader (You may draw a card when a creature with power 3 or higher enters battlefield under your control)
2 - Garruk, Primal Hunter (+1 - Place a 3/3 beast token onto the battlefield. -3 - Draw cards equal to the greatest power among creatures you control. -6 - Put a 6/6 wurm token for each land you control on the battlefield)
3 - Quicksilver Amulet (Tap 4 lands and tap card, put creature card from your hand onto the battlefield)
3 - Infiltration Lens (Draw 2 cards when equipped creature becomes blocked by a creature)
4 - Naturalize (Destroy target artifact or enchantment)
4 - Wild Growth (Add an additional green mana whenever enchanted land is tapped)

I've played this deck at least 10 games and have yet to lose when i play it. If i get the perfect draw on the opening hand, I can have wurms out by turn 5. I also have massive card drawing opportunities with Garruk's Packleader. The Primordial Hydra's/Worldspine Wurms are my heavy hitters. Naturalize allows to destroy enchantments that would prevent them from being able to attack/block.

If you know of anything else that would help this deck, or just want to comment on it, feel free.

Holy shit, Priest of Titania for Defender.

The only thing missing is a 1cmc green defender with T : Add G to your mana pool, like Llanowar Elves.
