Steel Wall's big brother.

A great blocker in any color deck, and a bonus when green is played. 2 colorless mana is the icing on the cake. This guy will see play in constructed play, I guarantee you. Best Defender in Standard thus far after Wall Of Omens.

Yeah, with green it can block almost anything, except unblockables and pro-artifacts. And 6 toughness is hard to beat. Nice fence.

It's like a Wall of Wood and a Wall of Vines mashed together, since it gets reach half of the time.

Shield Sphere's crappy brother. Not horrible but I wouldn't play it. I rather kill creatures instead of blocking them. :|

Awesome art! Nice and cheap to cast. Good blocker. It seems it's made for green decks though in order to block flyers too. Great card for a non-aggro green or splash of green deck.

Absolutely insane in limited, this card could stall the board for a ridiculously long time before finally falling. The modal Reach is just icing.

Amazing in my UB control deck's board against most aggro decks, specifically those decks running Vengevine. Blocks it all day long, baby!

@Majinara: It costs {2} more compared to the free defender you mention, so it must be crappy? At least with {G} this can block Baneslayer Angel, as DonRoyale mentioned. Block Vengevine with this and it is unphased; block it with Shield Sphere and it becomes a 0/2 after combat and won't survive a brush with another creature. I also prefer to kill creatures, but sometimes I need a break until I draw my removal or bomb. Thus, I like high toughness blockers sometimes, as I'm sure most other players do. You are a little too critical of this card, I think.

Might be odd to say about a 2 mana common wall, but this is a limited bomb. Only shatter effects (of which there are five, only two at common) and alpha tyrannax or carnifex demon can kill him in SOM limited, and if you have two or more out you can just prevent your opponents from attacking because it will do absolutely nothing. Had two of them in a recent FNM winning draft and was never unhappy to draw them.

@sarroth Actually, the Sphere would only go down to 0/5.

Since it is a colorless artifact, but it costs green mana for it's ability, does that make it green (protection from green)?

@bkelsey01
No it is not green. Color is determined by mana color in the casting cost.
This is strictly better than Wall of Earth, and is one of the most efficient zero-drawback toughnesses in the game.

One for the wall hall of fame! Six toughness is a lot to get past and this thing'll tie down your opponent's best attacker for quite a few turns- even infect creatures take a while to bust through this thing. I've hidden behind a Wall of Tanglecord many times and it never failed me (except versus artifact destruction).

This seems like perfect sideboard material against Caw-Blade.

Love this thing. It helped me through so many drafts, really consistently. Stalls for you usually indefinitely or eats removal. Tanglecord is love :3

This is a phenomenal blocker and if you want to press the advantage you can trash it in late game for six 2/2 wolves using Feed the Pack. Effing awesome and versatile.

Best wall in standard. I have four in my green/black control deck, and it really does its job well. I love the frustration on my opponent's face when his Phyrexian Obliterator is stopped by a common. Thank you wizards for this cheap, effective wall. 4.5/5

It works good to combo this guy with Overgrown Battlement for help with your defense while you ramp your mana.

This is an excellent card. I love creatures that are cheap to cast and you don't even need to have plans for them. They can just do what they're going to do. That's not to say I always leave them be - I'll occasionally give them more toughness haha
