Glad they used the PvC art.

The flavor text is reminiscent of M10 Lightning Bolt.

Why? Why now? Why with Scars coming would you print the one card that breaks most every artifact?

I'm already starting to get bad feelings about Scars...

Actually, I'm all for it AND scars of mirrodin. I can't wait to main deck tuktuk scrapper and all the other good artifact hosers.

Reprint. Wizards, I love you :)

Be prepared for some mad combos once Scars of Mirrodin gets released.
(I guess Wizards will keep track of that, though.
Well, i hope they'll be careful with artifacts that have a powerful effect by just tapping them^^)

Its nice to see that they're putting utility cards for almost every type of deck type in their deck but AHHHH THIS IS GOING TO BE GOING FOR UPWARDS OF FIVE DOLLARS ISN'T IT.
Scars of Mirrodin better not have a whole ton of indestructibility.

The missing piece to every combo.

This is going to get insane in Scars of Mirrodin. If you're a very serious player or a "market player," get these now.

Already, my brother has added arty killers to his decks just for the quick brew I stirred up with this, triskellion, overseer, and others.
can't wait for scars LOL

I love the flavor text, Seeing a this is most likely the missing piece to a buttload of combos out there.

This is out, and it's already made the current artifacts scarier. With scars on the horizon, it looks like artifacts just might become dominant in standard again.

What's next wizards? Printing Time Vault in Scars?

Don't get me wrong—I love artifact decks and play them most of the time—but this and Steel Overseer being around before Scars of Mirrodin makes me nervous. At least Tezzeret the Seeker will have fallen out of standard, but he's pretty much guaranteed to come back in some form for this block anyway.

"Hey, guys, here's an awesome idea! So, you remember how Voltaic Key was banned because it was broken as hell in its block? Well, there's an artifact block coming up, and I think we should reprint it! Come on, what could possibly go wrong?"

made a really fun all-artifact deck with 4 of these, icy manipulator, crystal ball, and steel overseer

it can get pretty silly when i am like "end of your turn, i will scry 2 four times.. hold on... ah! there's my all is dust!!!

YES. YES. YesyesyesyesyesyesyesYES. I don't care if Wizards reprinting this card was a mistake, you can bet I'm going to use it.

Really? I don't understand the fear in everyone's else's posts...
in order for this to be good, something else has to be broken
this + Steel Overseer? yeah, no brainer....
but easily delt with
Great utility though

Really? I must be dreaming. Steel Overseer is in the same set, you know. And right before another artifact block. ... And would you really want to get hit by Grindclock up to an additional 4 times? How about Lux Cannon?

And don't forget Myr Galvanizer- you can make a pretty hefty amount of mana with all the mana producing myr. Of course, with copies of galvanizer you can go infinite anyway and not have to leave the set... I'll have a few things to say about that once it hits gatherer.

At least the permanents with proliferate cost 4 mana to activate in addition to tapping. That would just be absurd otherwise.

Still, reprinting this (especially before scars) was a really bad idea.

I really wish they would reprint the Urza's Saga art for this card. This art isn't bad, but it just pales in comparison to the original. I mean, this key looks like it was put together out of glass beads and copper wire by Urza's artsy-craftsy aunt.

Totally not broken at all.

In Standard, this is not broken. The only cards in Scars I've seen this used with are Grindclock and Prototype Portal, and it was very unimpressive, even in the Casual match we were playing. Luckily I convinced him to take it out. In the current Standard, this card kind of sucks, but I see how it could have been awesome, with Time Vault and all.

All these comments are pre-Scars. This didn't have the game breaking effect that these comments mention. Nevertheless, this will definitely have a big impact ion Modern Artifact decks,

i fucken hate artifacts. not only that, but also, i hate stupidly low costing rigged cards. they could've made the casting cost 3 or 4 and this card still would've worked. a one mana drop is ridiculous. oh, hur hur, let me just dump out my 2 blightsteel colossus with master transmuter and ornithopter. oh i can keep tinkering for more of these combos? great. .... just effen great WotC.

woohoo artifact untap thats been around forever. Can't believe people though that reprinting this will make everything broke n in standard did they think that wizards is going to print another time vault?
ps
didn't see play in standard
pps
not seeing play in modern
ppps
not seeing play in legacy
pppps

I'm all in favor for the reprint of Voltaic Key. It's a nice simple and powerful card. What i dont everyone is why everyone thinks Scars is going to have a big artifact thing? Did anyone read the books other than me? Did i miss something? Will anyone answer these questions?

Update: Did i miss something? - obviously yes i did.
Will anyone answer these questions? - only my self. sigh

@ nope. Sorry but this card sees significant play in Vintage Oath decks. Everything else I agree with. This card in standard, modern and legacy is a non issue. Nobody uses it.

Both versions of the flavor text on this card are probably the most appropriate I have ever seen...

"The missing piece to every puzzle."
"The key did not work on a single lock, yet it opened many doors."

Use it with an artifact land for infinite tapping and untapping!

Well, okay, thats kinda dumb, but there's still a million combo's that can use this thing easily.

One of my favorite artifacts ever made. That being said, despite all the claims of it being broken, how many of the top decks in any format where it is legal use it?

Fantastic card.
However, I prefer Clock of Omens.
I like untapping more than once per turn.
