I think this has been over-mentioned, but: Persist Creatures. It's an uncounterable method of "healing" your persist creatures. It's also better than Novijen since it has a cheaper activation cost, is limited to only green creatures (so it's less likely to help out your opponent if you need to activate this during their turn), and gives colored mana (green, which matches with its 2nd ability). The fact that it comes into play tapped is not that big of a deal considering the advantages I just listed.

Works very well if you have extra mana when casting Putrid Leech, Bloodbraid Elf, Kitchen Finks, or Great Sable Stag. Coming into play tapped slows it a bit or it would be 4x autoinclude in any deck including even one green creature and one forest.

FINALLY a land card that's worth something to me!! All the other rare lands are great, but I always thought they were missing something...but this land...UGH!! SO MANY POSSIBILITIES, LIKE CAMPBELL'S SOUP (possibilities)!!

@a7141988: +1/+1 counters do not negate and remove -1/-1 counters, all counters stay on a creature unless removed by an ability or the creature leaves play. This card can't "heal" persist...

@Vadoff
That’s actually completely wrong. See rule 704.5r from the comprehensive rules.

unless I am drawing a blank on a rules change, +1/+1 counters and -1/-1 counters cancel each other out, this is why finks and ajani goldmane go so well together, play finks, get 2 life, block, get 2 life, ajani pumps and you repeat until opponent kills ajani or you win

Could be a lot of fun used in a casual deck with something like Howl of the Night Pack . That plus some Gaea's Anthem and you've got some massive wolves.
Only really viable in casual play of course.

Could be fun with Mycoloth, Ant Queen, etc.

Hi all i have a quick question before i rate this card. when you use oran-rief, the vastwood ability does it apply to all creatures that entered before and after the ability was used? secondly if you use persist( Scuzzback Marauders + Bramblewood Paragon + Goblin Bombardment ) and replace blamblewood paragon with oran-rief, the vastwood can you achieve the same combo?

Ctrl + P from the comprehensive rules... 420.5n If a permanent has both a +1/+1 counter and a -1/-1 counter on it, N +1/+1 and N -1/-1 counters are removed from it, where N is the smaller of the number of +1/+1 and -1/-1 counters on it.

@Keino In case you never read the full rules text for persist, your creature don't come back if they've got a -1/-1 counter on them already, so, Serrated Arrows ftw

Pretty good. Not the best land but could be used in some decks in Standard.

WolfBriar Elemental will create 3/3 wolves if this guy is out there doing his thing. Nasty. Oh, and the Elemental itself will be a 5/5.

Thalids are also a great combo, as is virtually any token creation.

A great card, especially in the late game. This can turn disappointing small late game creatures into somewhat more useful bigger creatures, it's essentially . The already combo with persist creatures is also good. Running it with cards that produce more than one creature such as Bestial Menace or Howl of the Night Pack can boost the small tokens by one each, which adds up. A single card combo and incredibly versatile. Useful in almost any deck with green creatures.

So...um..any reason why this card no longer gives +1/+1 counters?

I cast this followed by some Elves and they received no benefit.

Surprised no one made a vastwood joke yet so...

Thought this was a black legend by the name.

Howl of the Night Pack. In monogreen, 7 2/2 wolves for 7, or 7 3/3 wolves for 8?

Use four of these (the maximum I think) with and put four Arbor Elves and Joragon Warcaller into play, costing only five forest/mana pool total. Use the rest to get as many cheap elf units as possible.

Four +1/+1 counters on every unit including Joragon that has entered. Untap your Oran Rief, the Vastwoods with your Arbor Elves and put four more +1/+1 counters on every unit. Joragon doubles the effect.

Congratulations; you now have +16/+16 counters for every elf unit you gained on this turn. If you have Bramblewood Paragon out, proceed to trample all opponents to death.

Yeah, I wish the cycle from Zendikar was legendary. Mainly because I hate Valakut.
At first I thought maybe they were large areas so you could play different parts of them, but it's just one stupid volcano D:
5/5 though. Green decks have creatures

Just cast some cheap and small green creature and return some Vengevines from your graveyard. Nice card.

BUT...

WHY THE HELL IS THIS CARD NAMED LIKE A UNIQUE CHARACTER WITHOUT BEING LEGENDARY??? There is some R&D members which complains about the almighty Uncle Istvan, and now they print this...

The rulings seem confused about whether the +1/+1 ability is the second or third ability of the card. :P
