time to clean up the elf/saporling/soldier/weenie deck more like and at instant speed means you can crush their spirit when they attack all out well all their pumped up uber tokens sure they might have turned a 1/1 saproling into a 25/25 behemoth with insane abilities...but cmc 0 is cmc 0
and it screws up creature lands as well

Hey, guys look! It's Culling Sun, but with an easier color commitment and lower CMC! Awesome!
What's this? Oh ho! It prevents regeneration too? Sweetness!
What ho? And at instant speed? Ye gods!

Why does it destroy? Because it hates the fact that Tarmogoyf is $90, so it wants to just kill them all.

ARGH! IT'S THE ATTACK OF THE FLYING SPAGHETTI MONSTER! EVERYONE, HIDE THE CHILDREN (because they have a CMC =>3)
Used this in the pre-release today to great effect. Not as much against weenie decks, but to clear out their defenders before attacking with an Eldrazi. While it usually would clear out my own board of my mana accel, that wasn't a problem since when I used it I already had the eldrazi out. Hitting with the Annihilator afterwards usually killed them.

Hmm Megasmother. Might see a decent amount of play in Black Legacy/Extended, since their main problem tends to be Zoo and huge under-costed weenies like Tarmogoyf. The instant speed will lead to some fun combat tricks.

Singlehandedly saved my backside - twice - against cheap flyers at the prerelease. Against a level-up-heavy deck, it's a near-complete board-wipe no matter how far they've leveled - exactly 2 out of the 25 creatures with level-up have converted mana cost greater than 3. I love this card.

So consume just means destroy? All right. It's a useful enough card; save the flavour for the funner ones.

Say goodbye to the creatures you leveled all the way up.
Funnily enough THE GREAT LORD EGOTIST escapes the effect of this card. I guess that having an enormous ego helps when you fight the eldrazi.

all bow to the power of instant speed mass removal

For some interesting flavor, this is a very effective answer to the Sword of the Meek combo.

@HairlessThoctar - Both Culling Sun and this have a CMC of 5. How is 5 lower than 5?

Wait, instant speed? I always assumed this was a sorcery since it was a wrath effect...

I love how tribal decks are made of mostly cmc 3 or less :)
kills elves, allies, goblins, some slivers (Crystalline Sliver), soldiers etc etc.
This card some how works with eldrazi tribal though O.o considering that most of the eldrazi drones have cmc 4 or more. Emrakul's Hatcher etc.

Another one of {UB} control's many tools. When they're not countering or killing your big guys with targeted removal, removing entire playsets of cards from your hand, library and graveyard, or smacking you with unblockable manlands, you can count on them to ruin your strategy focused on lots of small dudes for only 1 card and 5 mana. It's not Day of Judgement but it doesn't flat out kill their Grave Titan, so they can just keep on dominating the board while they're dominating the board.

stops any infinite creature attack combo, assuming you have the mana to cast it, which you probably won't.

I like the flavor but i always get confused about the color pie between black and white when i see something like this.
I always thought white was supposed to get the whole-board mass removals like Day of judgment because it affects both sides thus creating balance, while black gets the one sided mass removal like Plague Wind. And than they printed this and Black Sun's Zenith...confusing

One mana less, instant speed; hits most of the deck archtypes that I'd be using it against. Exiling can be bad for my own stuff :( (which is another boon for this card)

This is pretty much a Plague Wind against most of my tribal decks. Very nasty indeed.

Instant speed is a big deal in that this spell can kill man-lands activated on the opponent's turn and is good against Voice of Resurgence, undying creatures, and persist creatures, ensuring that they (or tokens in the case of Voice) can't deal damage that turn.
@ChaosK if you think this isn't one-sided, you don't understand black. It can go one of two ways, as paolino stated, there's a reason it's cmc 3 or less. Either there's a handfull of black beaters who're too snooty to fight critters, or there's a board full of suicide bombers. This card is VERY one-sided in just the way black likes its cards to be.

Well, there's no real reason to do it, but it sounds cool.
EDIT - Also, this needs to go in every Kaalia of the Vast deck ever.
Check also Forced March for a variable CMC threshold.

Also has the benefit of being searchable by Mystical Teachings.
