BFFs with Garruk.

Make a beast, Sac, Proliferate, ready to make another next turn.

Wish it was a yeti beast.

This could work really well with Elves. Pull out a Nissa's Chosen then sac it with this to make your Joraga Warcaller and any elves buffed with Oran-Rief the Vastwood that much more deadly.

Not sure that's better than just, like, a Contagion Clasp, though.

Throne of Geth with legs and an alright body. For me though, I'll stick with the Throne, probably since I only run Blue/Black poison.

okay, anything that gets counters for something dying makes his sacrifice cost useful
Deathbringer Thoctar
Mortician Beetle
whatever.

this card+two corpse curs is insane. that combo won me a couple games in the pre-release.

No thank you, needs haste desperately. The reason i play Throne of Geth over this card is
1. No summoning sickness
2. {2} is much better than {3GG}
3. By the time i can cast this guy, i could've probably cast a Plague Stinger or Thrummingbird and had it connect a few times already.
4. Plaguemaw is susceptible to Lightning Bolt, sure so are Plague Stinger and Thrummingbird, but i'd rather lose a 2 drop than a 5 drop.
5. Has to compete with other great fatties in infect / proliferate decks for the +5-drop slot (Putrefax, Skithryx, the Blight Dragon, and Contagion Engine to name a few)

That being said, I'm sure he'll find his place in many token decks, as already pointed out he can be used to activate the ultimate of Garruk Wildspeaker the turn you cast him. I also enjoy the fact that he can sacrifice himself for the desired effect.

Why, is that an intruder alarm in a thallid deck? With a concordant crossroads and a utopia mycon? And did you just drop this card? Swinging with your infinite saprolling haords as you cast every card in your deck with mycosynth lattice and psychotrope thallid?

It confuses me that it doesn't have infect. Especially with a name like Plaguemaw Beast.

Use Nissa's instead. W/Nissa's chosen.

@kohta: Insane hardly, still four mana a turn for a proliferate a turn. No doubt its nice to have a guaranteed proliferate every turn, but four mana is still overpriced compared to almost all over proliferates. Although if you also had an Inexorable Tide down it would be quite nice.
That being said, Contagion Engine is still better as it gives you two proliferations for the same mana.

He's cool, I like the concept and the art, but I agree he needs haste to be really worth it. As is I can see him played in Commander, particularly a BGW or RGW Fungus/Saproling build, as without access to blue the decks are down several options for proliferate effects, and they probably wouldn't run enough artifacts to make Throne of Geth worthwhile. Contagion Clasp, Contagion Engine, Spread the Sickness, maybe a Core Prowler just for the goes-to-the-graveyard effect, and then a Doubling Season if you don't mind dropping some money, and you could have a nice saproling swarm deck. It might not be very competitive, but it's commander; sometimes fun decks are supposed to outweigh a deck's competitiveness. I think I would enjoy it.

With all the various +1 counters in green I could see deck possibilities. Strength of the Tajuru still exists in standard afterall. Llanowar elves + Nest invader = This guy on third turn.

Consider him with awakening zone as well. Juicy little critters every turn for proliferation.

My only complaint is the P/T. I really feel this is a lot more entertaining as a 5CMC 5/4, or 4/4 even. That one point of toughness makes a whole lot of difference.

He can self-cannibalize.

Not bad at all, but would have been more fun if he'd been pricier (4GreenGreenGreen), beefier (6/5), rare, and didn't need Tap for his power.

The tapping is what holds this guy back. Otherwise you could sac your guys in response to just about anything- oh you blocked my Saproling? Sac, proliferate. Lightning Bolt? Sac, proliferate.

As it is, he's a little expensive for what he does. Probably pretty decent in Limited, though, not that I play that.

Putrefax first, next turn Plaguemaw Beast, sac Putrefax before end step

Throne of Geth. If you're playing a deck that really makes use of this mechanic, you'll find the throne more effective (and quicker). If this thing also had infect, things might be a bit different.

Love the effect. Hate the body.

I either want a reasonably-costed tech creature or a fatty, not a mediocre blend of both.
Why put this Tap-ability on a five-drop (that isn't even out of bolt range)?

Something like a 3/2 for 2Green instead would have made things so much more interesting.

Although flavorwise it makes sense for him to be big. But still, why the tap cost?
I can see that Wizards likely didn't want this as a finisher for proliferate decks (sac all you got and get your opponent to 10 poison counters), but that seems like a bad solution.

But a simple "Activate this ability only once each turn" restriction would probably have slowed things down sufficiently as well. (Which compared to its current state would allow usage a turn earlier, as well as on each opponent's turn, making it more than twice as fast.)

Proliferate is good, but I would feel better if I could choose to sacrifice a creature, land, or artifact.
