In zendicar, it was common to be milled around 6 a turn from random crabs or annoying allies, not to mention the rares that eat huge portions of libraries in one hit. Now they toned it down a lot with a minor theme of taking a few nibbles off the top. No one will notice.

Srsly ppl this is a limited millstone for 1, it's tutorable with trinket mage, rechargable with prolif/venser/vedalkin infuser etc. with all the other mill effects in standard, tome scour, archive trap etc, this is actually quite amazing. I'm working on building a u/b infect-miller deck with this grindclock the prolif mechanic decimator web some black or artifact infecters and of course the triple threat of tome scour traumatize and archive trap

@Achija_El-Shuwal: Good luck with that one. Competitive infect decks don't have the slots for a dedicated mill strategy as well.

I don't know how this card is rated as high as it is. Ugh.

Mill 6 for 1 mana. Works with all colours.
Yes it can be destory, also it can be recharged. Great common.

"Mill 6 for 1 mana" -
No. Tome Scour mills 5 for {U}. Shriekhorn mills 6 for {1} over the course of three turns, which might as well be a lifetime in terms of competitive play.

@tcollins: Not all cards are intended for competitive play. I personally love this card for both limited and casual.

Bad card. In limited, unless you have drawn a seriously dedicated mill deck, it does absolutely nothing. And for constructed it's far too slow.

the only thing i can think of doing with this is screwing up someone's attempts to scry (which is kind of amusing, really), but even that isn't that good. tho it would be fun to build a sucky jank deck with this, proliferate, and grindclock. yay grindclock!

This + Contagion Engine = Repeat for infinite mills!! Problem??

Fetcheable by Trinket Mage.
Will help you reach metalcraft.
Works with proliferate.
Good against scry or any harbinger/tutor effect that leaves the card on top of your opponent's library.

It also works quite well with a charged Bloodchief Ascension. As soon as it's charged, if you have one Shriekhorn out, it's deal 4 damage + gain 4 life right away and the next two turns. Since you already dealed at least 6 to your opponent, that doesn't leave much life left.

I am sure there is something to do with this.

I personally like me some shriek, but only if I play Screeching silcaw as well. They're both undesirable commons, so I grab every one of them in limited. For constructed, these guys will most likely never see play.

Strictly better than millstone for three turns. Strictly worse for the rest of the game.

This is excellent in Limited, though it does require a very focused strategy.

In Constructed it's less attractive. There isn't a lot of flicker and no proliferate in Zen/M11, though Innistrad and M12 may have a bit, who knows. In Block, however, it's supported by many of the set's thematic mechanisms - proliferate (ie, Contagion Clasp), flip (Glimmerpoint Stag, Venser the Sojourner), metalcraft (Dispense Justice, Stoic Rebuttal), sacrificing artifacts (Kuldotha Forgemaster) and so-on. Most of the Esper cards and almost all of the artifacts in Mirrodin Besieged Block love this thing, basically.

I don't like it. There are much better options for milling, and any slots you dedicate to recarging this thing could just be more mill cards, or some LD, which plays well with mill.

Technically has more mill to mana cost than even Glimpse the Unthinkable, but it still cant bring myself to like it.

I personally think this is underrated. It may be a bit too slow for competitive play, but mill 6 for 1 mana is nothing to be scoffed at. It's not like your opponents are going to waste removal on it, so it's basically a better version of tome scour.
