Its absurd. Its over powered. Its unnecessary. Its the best damn dragon ever printed!

way to expensive. If you get one attack with this guy and your opponent has no removal or something like that, you won most of the games but... seriously. 10 Mana is hard to get and when you have it, it can be countered for 2 Mana and your whole mana is spend for nothing. Of course you can counter nearly everthing but if this is countered you cant play anything great that turn and you are defenseless in the opponents turn.

So if you get him on the playfield and you attack you are even more screwed if your opponent has a remover because you spend 4 mana for it to survive at the beginning of your upkeep and maybe some more to boost it. So you spent about 14-18 mana what left you nearly defenseless for 2 opponent turns and your opponent needs only 2-3 mana to get this guy into the graveyard.

Needless to say that if you dont have 10 mana you dont want to draw this card.

A couple of Dragonspeaker Shamans make it do-able.

I don't think anyone is going to look at this card and say "wow, this is going to win me some tournaments." People look at this and say "wow, this is going to be a lot of fun." As long as they still know how to have fun, that is...

These are the best kinds of magic cards if you ask me. No needlessly overcomplicated rules text, no errata, no broken cheese, no "omg i found a loophole in the rules that lets me break this"...just pure, unadulterated fun.

Also, the artwork is amazing. Kev Walker is amazing.

My favorite use for this guy is Scion of the Ur-Dragon. Pulling it out of my library and swinging for (at least) 12 damage without paying the massive cmc or upkeep cost is really fun!

Ridiculously bad-ass. I've only got one, sadly. I'd love to build a multiplayer deck around this guy.

Use Extraplanar Lens in a mono-red deck to both summon and pay the upkeep cost!

I want to get one of these for my Jhoira of the Ghitu EDH deck. Even if I don't want to pay his upkeep, he would be extremely useful coming in with double strike and haste after being suspended.

This guy is so win. He's the biggest, silliest, beefiest beatstick you'll ever play. Sure, if he dies, he dies, but if he doesn't, an opponent does. And who can get mad losing to this?

This creature is too expensive to hardcast, and it's not ideal for a dragonstorm deck because of the upkeep cost and no haste (plus you're generally better off playing creatures like bogardan in dragonstorm).

This means you have to cheat this creature into play using other methods, but you can do that for any creature (like progenitus), and again, the upkeep cost makes this one of the worst creatures to cheat in.

Zirilan of the Claw anyone?

Pulling the Tyrant out with Zirilan has won me countless games. This guy is beast.

It's not too expensive provided that you have ways around it's rediculous castings cost.
My mono red all dragon deck packs 4 Dragonspeaker Shamans and 4 Urza's incubators and theoretically my dragons are 12 colourless mana cheaper.
That means you only have to worry about the red mana.
Or you can play green and add some Elvish Pipers in the deck (as someone here mentioned earlier), something worth considering (even by me, who rather keeps his creature themed-decks mono-coloured).
And if you are still too worried about your dragons being too expensive...Well, you have got to be extremely desperate but you can also add 4 copies of Ruby Medallion (wich makes your red dragons another 4 colourless mana cheaper). But I'm sure no one here is THAT DESPERATE :D

You took the words out of my mouth, Laguz. Dragon Tyrant may not be "playable", but it is, on the other hand, a ton of fun to play with. Oh yeah, and the art is simply epic.

Damn. This card is amazing. Expensive to get out? Maybe, but there are so many ways around that. Maintenance cost? Maybe, but you'll probably win with one or two attacks.

Excellent. Simply excellent.

I ran this guy in a R/G land destruction deck as a late game beatstick, and he was more often than not how I won. It's really hard to respond to a win condition suddenly showing up or taking advantage of the tyrants' drawback if you have no lands.

Of course, this was back in the days of yore when stone rain and the like were actually feasible and not too slow. And also before everyone in my playgroup got all hurr type 2 tourneymode.

All in all, I love this card. He shows up and says "alright you worthless ape! I'm going to win you this fight, but you had better pay me tribute or I'll leave your sorry arse!!!"

Zirilian of the Claw EDH is a turn-six bomb.
T5: Summon Zirilian
T6: Land, Search for this, pump thrice, 18 damage to the face. That hurts. Use burn to eliminate blockers.
Also, tied with hunted dragon AND Ancient Hellkite for biggest monored Dragon. I still like Hellkite Overlord though.

Amen to the Scion of the Ur-Dragon EDH idea, but i search for Vorosh the Hunter first, so that it will deal 24 damage unblocked, aka lethal. The next person gets Skithiryx.

How has this not been reprinted in any of the myriad of products they've made to take money from dragon fanboys?
I guess Ajani v. Nicol Bolas would be a stretch, but it would have been the perfect fit for Knights vs. Dragon, and FTV is a no brainer.

You know what? I propose a new FTV, FTV: Holy (Debutantes avert your eyes), essentially fifteen cards that aren't necessarily any good, but that evoke the titular reaction from your opponent when you slam 'em down on the table on turn 12.

Hard cast this with something like Mana Flare. Watch your opponent cry as they realize they have only 1 turn to live if he's around.

This is the king of my Dragon Reanimate deck. Buried Alive, grab Anger, Bladewing the Risen, and this bad boy, reanimate bladewing, pump up tyrant and swing. Next turn, IF there is a next turn, when its time to sac, UNDYING EVIL FTW

Wizards of the Coast Guy #1: This isn't dumb enough. Kaalia says it's pathetic and she wants something to make it worth playing. (She's an insane holy witch bent on ending the world. 8/8 is ''small''.)

Wizards of the Coast Guy #2: This'll shut her up: Avacyn, Angel of Hope

2 Hours Later....

Wizards of the Coast Guy #3: (Renton, Washington lies in ruins, rubble from destroyed buildings clutters the streets, the R&D Lab exploded in holy hellfire just moments ago) "We dreamed of creating the world's most powerful Commander......and we succeeded!

Could work well with Mindwrack Liege. Easier to ramp to six than ten. Getting this guy out at instant speed as a 7/7 flying double striker is nothing to scoff at either.

The ultimate finisher in my Zirilan of the Claw Commander deck. It comes down and someone dies, period. It's even more fun if you first equip a Sword of Feast and Famine to it, because of the interactions with double strike. I took someone from 39 life to zero in one shot, and that's a pretty common play.

Flying, trample, double strike and pumpable 6 power? One big scary package. Challenged only by bloodlusting Furyborn Hellkite when it comes to gigantic dragons.
