Good thing there's no easy way to put additional counters on permanents that already have them in this set.... I mean that would just be broken.

4 mana and three extra turns before the first permanent would be destroyed may seem slow, being colorless justifies its potential. Definitely require some set up to speed up.

yeah i dont get why this is a mythic. i mean, at a 4 drop you cant fire until turn 6, then turn 10 and by then the games over. especially with barely any ways to accelerate charge conters in scars, this is too slow. did you know that profilerate is only on six cards from scars?

Mythic??? For real?...i beg to differ on that. Too slow...3 charge and fire, then recharge for 3 again? I pretty much bet that players wont use this for permanent removal options.

The flavor is out of this world. It reminds me of that one card, you know, that card everyone liked to hate on for being mythic? I'd say this is in the same boat. Think about it. If it could hit every turn, early on, it would be far too powerful. But this is mythic because of the intense flavor behind it. A cannon that blows holes through worlds. What could be more mythic than that? Sure, the mechanic is slow and clunky, but a weapon of this magnitude has to be slow for it to not be overly powerful. And when you're punching holes in worlds, you can't fire every turn. That just doesn't make sense. And then again, you can cheat counters onto it, making it easier to wield.
Totally going into the Myr deck I'm building in my head right now. Massive flavor, massive potential. Maybe for Casual, yes. But I still absolutely love it.

In blue, you can have this on the field by turn three with Grand Architect and any other blue creature. This is exactly the sort of card I'd love to see on a mythic. Splashy but slow, so it will not dominate the field. Something told me that a mythic that dominates the field easily shoots up over $50.
I don't get those people who want every mythic to be tournament-worthy.
This card is like a Phyrexian Arena that spits out Vindicates instead of a random card, but only every four turns. That, of course, doesn't sound hot at all, and so you do need a Voltaic Key to go with it. Once it's every two turns, it's actually looking good. This should do best in a deck that would welcome the Key anyway; now, how does such a deck look like?

If it takes you 4 turns to get this up and running, you're doing it wrong. Some present ways of speeding this up have been pointed out. You might also consider the possibility of a charge counter generator (reprinted or new) in one of the other two upcoming sets. For example:
On T4, tap for 1 charge counter, then sac for 2 charge counters. Imprint the Coretapper. You may now blow something up with your fully-charged cannon. Furthermore, you now have access to a Vindicate each turn for {3}.
Sure, it's not a selective board wipe whenever you need it, but it requires only 3 cards as opposed to the 7-card combo previously mentioned. And to be objective, I think this combo is more a testament to the awesomeness of Mimic Vat than to Lux Cannon, but I'd run it in a casual deck none-the-less.

I actually DO run these in a standard blue-(splash white for day of judgement now that I have a pair) proliferate deck. And yes, I defnitely play 3 voltaic keys with it =) Thrummingbird loves this guy, as does contagion clasp, but if you ever get out congagion ENGINE? it's a death machine. If you get things going fast enough--have early proliferate or voltaic keys--you can get it online by turn 5ish, and from there it's at least firing every other turn. Putting a voltaic key on a prototype portal with this thing out quickly gets crazy too; especially if you've been proliferating an everflowing chalice at the same time and your keys get you mana as well.
Of course, if you're doing that well, you should already have almost killed them with grindclocks or necrogen censors...

I don't know whether my friend and I just have really slow games, but ths card by itself would mess up most of my friends almost completely. Maybe they rely on one-drop cards too much, though. I say if you can mix this up with a way to speed it up (or just make lots of them with Prototype Portals/Mirrorworks), while slowing the opponent down, or prolonging the game, it's a very decent card. Even if they are very aggro, a Wall of Frost is going to hold them at bay for a while. Particularly if you are healing in the mean-time or put a Grafted Exoskeleton on it. It's only 4 mana, and doesn't cost anything to use once it's on the field, and it's something that they HAVE to deal with. If you've used a prototype portal to bring it out, then that's going to be the target instead. It is possible that they will destroy that prototype portal as soon as it is out, but then, anythings possible.
I don't see how this is not Mythic-quality. Even if it gives them several turns to deal with it, this shouldn't be your be all and end all tactic. This will definitely be the subject of most of their artifact removal, so you can bet on this and use it to your advantage, by making them use up their removal ability, while you go and do something else that would have been better for them to remove. Or do it in reverse. Make sure there's always something that they HAVE to deal with so they'll leave this alone.
By itself, no, maybe it won't win you the game. As far as I've seen, Magic: The Gathering is won mostly by combining cards that work well together, this card is no exception. It may rely more heavily on being supported than others, but that's just how this card is. If you can use it, it can be devastating.

If you destroy the world, there's no more hole. Problem solved.
It's great removal for blue, which seriously lacks complete removal of creatures, let alone planeswalkers and enchantments and artifacts. If you do let a serious threat through, you'll probably end up having this charged and ready every time. Green could also use this, but it's gotten a few destroy cards as of late. Soooo.....I thought about this card.....and Time Vault.....
Proposed Super Awesome Artifact of Doom:
Crypt of Ages/Stargate/Ark of Lost Aeons/whatever you want to call it:
Legendary Artifact
{6}
Crypt of Ages enters the battlefield tapped.
Crypt of Ages doesn’t untap during your untap step.
At the beginning of your upkeep, put a charge counter on Crypt of Ages.
{T}: Put a charge counter on Crypt of Ages.
{2}, {T}, Remove three charge counters from Crypt of Ages: Destroy all other nonland permanents, then each player discards their hand, draws seven cards, and shuffles their graveyard into their library. Then take an extra turn after this one. Then flip a coin. If you lose the flip, Crypt of Ages deals 20 damage to you.
Nevinyrral's Disk + kills Planeswalkers + Time Reversal + Time Walk
Repeatably.
If you're willing to risk 20 damage every time you use it.
I always thought that warping time and space didn't cost enough in Magic. In the movies, even something like a Time Turner has the potential to break reality if the characters do something wrong or get really unlucky. Attempting to meddle with Time should always carry the risk of losing. In order to make up for that, you should get something really stupidly AMAZINGLY powerful. I believe this card delivers admirably :)

I find the lack of LoL references in the comments of this card disturbing.
They're too slow to use on their own in most formats, but they're great in a prolificate deck, especially since those decks also tend to have lots of ways to untap their artifacts to reuse their Contagion Engines and Contagion Clasps.

@psychichobo Seedborn muse has existed for years. Unwinding clock is good, but it's hardly a new ability. The only reason people notice it is because it says only artifacts, so people actually look for cards that combo with it instead of think 'oh... that's neat..'.
This card was obviously designed to be built around, and I like it. It's too bad I wasn't playing during mirrodin block or I probably would have tried to make a standard deck that uses this. It looks fun.

With voltaic construct, it becomes pay 6: Destroy one permanent per turn (and pay an additional 8 for any further permanents you wish to destroy in the same turn). With any kind of proliferate mechanic to go with it, it can be a lot more cost effective on destruction beyond the first. This, voltaic construct, gilder bairn, and something to tap gilder (or something to make it unblockable) can get this to work for sure.

This and Spine of Ish Sah give efficient Mirran and Phyrexian *colorless* removal; which is nice for themed decks. I have a pair of decks I'm making now and having a couple of these in it without really focusing on it means that I have an eventual out to problem cards like worship while being pure artifacts/etc.
Some noteworthy combos are Power Conduit (both to charge it or charge something else), Energy Chamber (destroy something every other turn), and Coretapper (same as above but the ability to super charge it immediately.)
It's notable that unlike Titan Forge (which annoyingly requires both mana *and* tapping to add counters) this can fuel itself without weakening your turns. Either way; this is both a fun build-around card and a fun throw-in-to-deal-with-problems card.

Dear Lux Cannon,
My wife and I just don't connect anymore. After 24 years of marriage I've come to find that the romance that fueled our early relationship is just no longer there, and the children that are our mutual love and passion no longer need us like they did. Everything outside us that has driven and kept us together now seems to be evaporating. Still, I love my wife and I know it would devastate my children and both our families if our marriage ends. I cant talk directly with my wife about this - I've tried and that's when our current troubles escalated, making me truly worried about the state of our marriage. We no longer even sleep in the same bed. I do wish to stay together - but I just don't see how that is possible with my marriage in it's current state. Please, how can I get the ball rolling with my wife so that we can build something again between us and not outside of us that will keep us together for another 24 years or more?

As far as I've seen, Magic: The Gathering is won mostly by combining cards that work well together, this card is no exception. It may rely more heavily on being supported than others, but that's just how this card is. If you can use it, it can be devastating.
sounds fun for longer games like EDH
Pew pew pew!
Overall a great card even without proliferate.
-gets 3 charge counters-
FIRE!!
-fires superlaser-
turn 1: Surge Node
turn 2: Everflowing Chalice , then charge chalice to 2 with Surge Node.
turn 3: Lux Cannon, if you hit a 3rd land, you can charge it with Surge Node.
turn 4: Boom!
2 Lux Cannons: "Where the hell did my permanents go?"
3 Lux Cannons: "I concede..."
4 Lux Cannons: The rumor is that 4 lasers shoot out of the cards simultaneously and vaporize the opponent's deck.
You have been warned...
Lux Cannon
???
PROFIT
Soooo.....I thought about this card.....and Time Vault.....
Proposed Super Awesome Artifact of Doom:
Crypt of Ages/Stargate/Ark of Lost Aeons/whatever you want to call it:
Legendary Artifact
{6}
Dear R&D: please stop living in fear of Tinker and Vintage and just print INSANE stuff like this- it's actually fair for Standard!!!! xD
be extra careful with 5+ Lux Cannons: the legend says that they not only will vaporize your opponent deck, but your opponent itself!
On a serious note, Vedalken Infuser, Proliferates, Surge Nodes, and if you don't mind stepping out of standard, Clockspinning...I just picked up a copy of this card for $3 AU, so I'm quite happy with myself.
Charge the Energy Chambers!!
Also, should have read "Exile target permanent." "Destroy just doesn't cut it anymore today.
Bad card for bad players. *1/2 out of 5.
Well we can remedy that.
Energy Chambers + Coretappers.
Just tap it to fire the Ion Cannon and go laugh maniacally.
2. Play March of the Machines
3. Enchant Lux Cannon with Pemmin's Aura
4. ?????
5. Profit!
Have March of the Machines and Lux Cannon out, then play Surge Node and transfer its counters to the cannon with Fate Transfer. Add in a Voltaic Key to destroy two permanents in one turn.
Just for the look on their faces.
Seedborn muse has existed for years.
This, voltaic construct, gilder bairn, and something to tap gilder (or something to make it unblockable) can get this to work for sure.
I think it was called a Violet Key... or Volcanic Key.... or Kolatic Key... or something like that.
But I still run this in my Soldier EDH. Why? Flavour.
"Heavy artillery on the field."
Sincerely,
Getting Lonelier in New Prahv
Dear Getting Lonelier,
PPPHHHHHZZZZOOOOOOONNNNNNN....BLAMBCRACKP-ZOW!!!
-Lux Cannon
I think you mean this is best operated by Vorel of the Hull Clade.
Also, there are four Coretappers working as my mechanics.
