As perhaps the worst creature ever printed, enough people probably want it. Bad cards are a great way to humiliate someone. This is a great way to make them commit double murder suicides.
The fact that they reprinted this trash, combined with some of the other nonsense Wizards pulls (Wallet-Slayer Angel, creating Mindless Null as a "joke" card at our expense) really leaves me wondering if they do hate the players, or at least hold us in contempt, thinking we'll buy anything. Yeesh!

Based on the artwork, this really ought to be an Elemental Treefolk. That said, I actually got one of these in a pack of Legends back in 1994 (showing my age, here). Legends was in such high demand when it first came out and the set had a very low print run. So nearly every store only received a partial shipment (or none at all). I did find a store in D.C. selling them for $8/pack only 2 weeks after the set was released. I bought eight packs for $64 -- the store limit. I could've gotten just about any other rare and been happy. But no... I was destined to receive a Wood Elemental.
Your opponent is playing Wood Elemental. You have 10 counterspells in your hand and enough mana to cast anything. Would you counter it?

Green is the color of efficient creatures. Like Terra Stomper, for example, or Leatherback Baloth. So what's this guy's excuse? for a guy who only becomes a 1/1 if you sacrifice an untapped forest as he comes in? What the fuck kind of drugs were they on when they made this? Here's an idea for a "fixed" Wood Elemental.
Wood Elemental Creature - Plant Elemental Pay only green mana for . Wood Elemental enters the battlefield with X +1/+1 counters on it. : Place a +1/+1 counter on Wood Elemental. : Remove a +1/+1 counter from Wood Elemental. Any player may use this ability. 0/0
Seems completely different, right? Well, that's because there's no real changing this card piece by piece. It needs to be completely torn up and rewritten. Is the card I thought of good? Maybe, probably not. Is it easily broken? Yes. Just ask Corpsejack Menace and Doubling Season. Is it at least better than Wood Elemental as it is? I'd say so.

5/5
You sac the forests when it enters the battlefield, not as a cost to cast it, so you won't lose any forests if it gets countered.
Although frankly, they're doing you a favor by countering this.
At least Razor Boomerang could win you the game in the right circumstances.

75 dollars indeed.
Doesn't stop this being 0.5/5

Seems completely different, right? Well, that's because there's no real changing this card piece by piece. It needs to be completely torn up and rewritten. Is the card I thought of good? Maybe, probably not. Is it easily broken? Yes. Just ask Corpsejack Menace and Doubling Season. Is it at least better than Wood Elemental as it is? I'd say so.
In mono green, this guy is obviously weak. But with readily available Overgrown Tomb, Breeding Pool, etc, I think we can expect a resurgence of five color Wood Elemental decks in Legacy.
Play with two Smokebraider and you can sacrifice as many Stomping Ground as you like!
In all seriousness, this guy is pretty terribad, His best use is for getting that piece of corn out from betwixt your teeth.
.5/5 Stars
1. Cast him. Sacrifice whatever forests you want.
2. Donate
3. Point and laugh at your opponent, who is now playing with Wood Elemental. They will concede in shame and you will win instantly.
Play Pandemonium.
Opponent confused.
Next turn, Drop Life and Limb, drop Wood Elemental, sac 87 million forests.
You just got murdered by Wood Elemental.
Okay, in all seriousness, this card was never playable, ever. Even in those times when creatures were so weak that people used Leviathan in serious decks, this was completely unplayable. If people wanted a green fatty at the time, they just used Force of Nature, which is so, so, so, SO much better than this wretched card!
