Great card for any deck 3-5 colors!!! Low cost means possible early mana of all colors. Only con to card would be one out means any in hand are just dead weight till one in play is gone. But still rocks!!

Forget playability, this card gets a 5 from me just for having SLAYER's logo in the artwork. >;)

I'm not sure everyone totally gets how this card has both pro's and cons. Pro, you can use all 5 colored mana, meaning that if you are playing cards that rely on the amount of specific mana or land you have its very useful ie seismic strike. Con, it requires green mana to start with, or at least someway of producing green mana, if you have special lands that produce 2 mana for example, or multiple mana like serra's sanctum, then if you are using it to tap for 1 color it loses those abilities as replacement, and lastly if your opponent has a card like.. say boil (destroys all islands) then it kills all your lands. Still one of the best mana fixers.

a nice card, and an awesome combo with Emeria, Sky Ruin, and Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle, every land triggers Valakut, and turn 7, or earlier with some rampant lands, and you are reviving your creatures

one downfall to this, which i'm surprised no one else sees, is landwalk. in the same instant, as a perk, it makes all your landhome work very well.

if you have keeper of progenitus out with this do you get 4 manna for each tap or just 2?

This thing is the crux of my 5-color deck. I've got plenty of land-based spells like Corrupt and Mutilate, and stuff like Landbind Ritual.

Donovan, I don't really think you're using this card correctly. If you have a Serra's Sanctum, then you have the choice of T: add U or T: add G or T: add W or T: add B or T: add R. Additionally, you have T: add xW. If you tap Serra's Sanctum, you still can add W for each enchantment you control. Read the additional rulings, "lands still retain their abilities."

Oh man, good spot on the Keeper of Progenitus, Gezus. All your lands would make 2, but it'd be two of any color...awesome :D
Also, this card is soooooo cool. You can use Beacon of Creation one turn, then turn around and use Tromp the Domains the next...it's a huge "build around me" card.
Oh, and let us not forget Last Stand. So good, even if you do mill yourself for 5...

I believe this is the best mana fixer in the game. It has a ton of uses in any deck of 2 or more colors. Yes, it opens you up to all of the basic landwalk evasion abilities but if you build around this card your opponents will not be able to stop you. Tap two basic forests for a Terminate!

Especially silly For any green deck with a splash of another color this card is an MVP.
I have been on the recieving end of 2 Last Stands in consecutive turns with this in play. Ouch, game over!

Am I missing something? Why hasn't this show up in a scapeshift/Valakut combo deck yet? Is there some kind of evil downside that I'm missing?

Situationally better or worse then Joiner Adept

Pros:
Harder to kill
Interacts with Domain and other cards
Allows the rare lands from zendikar to activate.

Cons:
makes every Landwalk work against you
does not effect land searching.
Increases vulnerability to land hate.

I understand the pentagram in the sky symbolizes the 5 colours of mana, but what's with the flying monsters and the withered forest? Can anyone explain the art?
CeremonialBathory
★★☆☆☆ (2.8/5.0) (2 votes)
@Sironis: Those attributes are characteristics of Shadowmoor. Shadowmoor is Lorwyn's opposite in that it is always night. Where Lorwyn was idyllic, Shadowmoor is supposed to be spooky. A lot of the other cards in Shadowmoor have similar landscapes in the background due to this. For another example, check out the Shadowmoor version of Armored Ascension, or the backgrounds of some Elvish cards like Elvish Hexhunter. The look fits Black and Red cards to an extent, so it doesn't look out of place for them. It's sort of like the Ravnica block, which took place in an entire plane of city - most, if not all, of the art reflects that.

Quite a few people have mentioned its brilliance in 5 color decks, which is what I use it in right now, but I also used it to great effect in a BRG dragon deck because it means you always can max out your fire breathers.

Does this mean they produce mana of every type, or are they just considered all lands (meaning that they would activate abilities like Blanchwood armor or Claws of Valakut.)

Sironos: That's the land sculpting itself...

Meh. Magic consists of two colors primarily, red and blue. The other colors were put in for chumps, children, and victims. Give me some steam vents and boilerworks and I'm set.

I think I hate how easy it is to get domain with this card. First turn, you have all 5 land-types? Don't tell you cant, there's pretty easy ways; and second turn is pretty brutal besides.
I do find it amusing how susceptible it makes you to landwalk though.

@konokono
That is exactly the same reaction I had... The benefits far outweigh the drawbacks.

Yes, this makes your lands vulnerable to specific basic land hate like Boil, Flashfires, Choke, Tsunami etc but the applications of this...oh my. The ultimate in mana filtering.

Ha, you can tap teramorphic expanse and evolving wilds for mana. You can even tap Dark Depths for mana, how adorable. I absolutely love this card and am thankful I pulled a bunch back when they weren't so expensive.

A few people... i forgot names... mentioned combos that tely on you lands becoming basic lands. This does not help that, hyour non-basic lands are still non basic. So, say... Gauntlets of Power will have no benefit from this card.

@j_mindfingerpainter:

As of when I'm writing this, the official commander banlist includes both Coalition Victory and Mox Diamond. While it's certainly okay if your playgroup agrees with it, according to the official commander homepage:

"The following is the official banned list for commander games. These cards (and others like them) should not be played without prior agreement from the other players in the game."

While it's not a huge deal, you should be aware that if you play EDH with people not in your normal playgroup, they might be angry or frustrated with the deck.

As for the card itself, is a big enabler in most multicolored decks, and works well with Draco and Last Stand, which almost work like Coalition Victory if you get them out early enough or have enough lands out.

Bonus points if you use ten basic forests to activate each of Cromat's abilities in the same turn.

This thing is so awesome. In the Progenitus EDH deck I'm working on, this happens somewhat often:

T2: Land, this card
T3: Land, Fist of Suns
T4: Land, Transguild Courier
T5: Land, Coalition Victory

On a good day, I draw Mox Diamond and it all happens a turn earlier.

EDIT: Aremath: Oops. I completely forgot Coalition Victory was on the banlist when I put that deck together. Thanks, even though I'm pretty sure you're wrong about Mox Diamond.

I suppose being able to cast my commander, Progenitus, nearly as soon as I tutor for Fist of Suns probably counts as a win condition just on its own, though.

Continues to get better over time; since some cards care about basic land types, even when new. Koth of the Hammer and Liliana of the Dark Realms are good examples of newer cards this works well with.

This and door to nothingness.

Put them in a green deck designed for ramping and... (see Girundar's "Chant of Mul Daya" Deck from duels of the planeswalkers 2014).
