Fun fact: Adephage means "all consuming". it's also a type of beetle.

Sure, because Populate wasn't exciting enough already.
Infinite Reflection would be a fun play with this. Just make sure to protect your enchanted bug.

It's not a bad advice when someone tells you that you should hang out with people you have stuff in common with. This guy took it to a whole other level.
Barnicles! I just got myself a play set of Spawnwrithe a few weeks ago, just to have them be outclassed. Perhaps they can make a strong team. Hmm...
@Totema: Infinite Reflection is perhaps a little better than you realize. If the aura leaves the battlefield through any means then everything it changed will not change back, it's a permanent effect. So windmill slam that baby on your phatest Timmy card and smash away my friend!

Big. Evasive. Makes copies of himself. The copies make copies. What's not to like?
Update: Pulled him in my simic prerelease sealed pool. Along with Stolen Identity. Yeah. It happened. >=D

My friend is running this in his casual Simic deck. He casted if after playing Master Biomancer in a multiplayer match. I'm still having nightmares about those 9/9 monstrosities.
Do not underestimate it, it will eat your everything.

Adephage.... the most common kind of insect... which is the second most common lifeform on the planet (after bacteria)... so it's the most common of the second most common... ....is a mythic rare. WIZAAAAAAAAAARDS.
Mana cost is just too high. 5 years ago this would have been OK, but now the power creep has passed this level. How can WotC print this as a mythic rare in the same set with Obzedat, Ghost Council?
Great art though.

Bugs are threatening to overrun our homes, copying themselves at will and trampling humanity into submission.

This + Prey Upon? Forced fight + combat damage would result in a copy if I'm not mistaken?
marek_m

@ResignedToFate: this won't happen. Prey Upon's effect is not combat, and combat damage is not dealt. Furthermore, trample damage won't be assigned to the other creature's owner, since trample only "works" during the combat.

I run this in a Simic deck built around Master Biomancer, Crowned Ceratok, and Sapphire Drake. It's there pretty much as a backup plan if I can't beat opponents with amped up, evolved flyers, but it's incredibly imposing. Would give any Selesnya deck a lot of teeth.
This and Spawnwrithe are great in multiplayer, because EVERYONE must put up good defense. Also, it also lets you smack down the weak players when otherwise people would complain about puppy kicking. They still complain, but now you have an excuse.

this is one of those mythics that's just simply fun to play. you can build a deck around it or you can just throw it into one. a 7/7 trample for 7 is solid. making more of that just by doing what it's functionally designed for is gravy. 4/5 because it's not game-shattering but it works well. the clear bomb in limited. and that's reason enough to make it a mythic--don't want to see too many of these hitting the table.
@Xycolian To what end would you use that? I don't think it will work out like you want it to. You can't regenerate the Adephage, because you'll be sacrificing it. Really you just need the Breath of Fury to make this happen. Well that, and maybe a Concordant Crossroads, or even better since you're obviously running red and green, Mass Hysteria. These 3 cards, can cause an infinite damage loop.
Matter of fact, I think I may put this combo to use! lol.
Adephage + Breath of Fury attacks, if it deals damage, put the token into play, sacrifice enchanted adephage, enchant new adephage, repeat till opponent is dead. Also add in a few Rubblehulk's, just for their bloodrush ability, to beef up the Giant Adephage, making sure it gets some trample damage in.
You can also add instead of Mass Hysteria, Emblem of the Warmind's. Cheap to play and enchant a dummy creature, or maybe even a wall? lol. Or use enchants like Fervor, or Fires of Yavimaya. All are pretty cheap cards too. And we all know that for the emblem strategy, that both green and red have some decent walls. Wall of Stone, and Traproot Kami come to mind for examples of easy to play, very decent sized walls.

Hello, green devotion deck! Token copies of a permanent have the same mana costs as that permanent (good to bear in mind if you want to use Ratchet Bomb). Every extra Adephage token will give you +2 devotion to green!
This thing looks Golgari, but the ability screams Simic.

So last night a friend was using my populate deck against me. He got out the Giant Adephage after already putting down two Parallel lives. Needless to say after two turns he suddenly had thirty or so 7/7 insects that could duplicate themselves and his Wayfaring Temple was huge.
You must have pretty high standards for what makes an awesome mythic. This and Necropolis Regent are some really cool cards (in my opinion). I mean, at least they aren't just more chase mythics.
@OrgasmandTea
First of all, Ravnica is not the real world. Just because adephagans are extremely common in the real world doesn't mean that they also are in Ravnica. Second of all, this is not a normal adephage; this is a GIANT adephage! Since when have you seen a creature like this in real life?

I'm giddy with excitement over Theros. I have a million deck ideas. Many of the mechanics are modular (devotion is mostly linear, though) and encourage combination with other mechanics- decks will be extremely unpredictable and varied. So many dominating cards will cycle out - Geist of Saint Traft, Huntmaster of the Fells, Falkenrath Aristocrat, Thragtusk, Restoration Angel, Liliana of the Veil, Bonfire of the Damned, Snapcaster Mage... Standard will be a whole new world.
The Timmy in me just dealt damage and spawned another free Timmy.
