Without the second ability this is still a solid limited pick. I really like these pseudo lords.

It doesn't look much, but it's quite good with simic actually. The turn he comes in, it essentially puts +1/+1 counters to your creatures and give them trample. More than meets the eye :)

Good times with +1/+1 counters! Works well with Evolve, Scavenge, and Unleash strategies (splashing green for the latter).

Evolve is merely good in Constructed. With this, it's downright scary in Limited.

Amazing. Goes perfect with Simic just like Sapphire Drake.

This guy is nuts in limited. 4/3 trample for 4 is already fine, but the fact that it's a lord for all your evolve creatures makes him crazy. Oh yeah, and he'll probably trigger most of your evolve creatures too.

I like all the 1/1 counter mechanics that Simic introduced; miles more creative than what Rakdos did with them.

GUYS GUYS GUYS, YOU'RE ALL MISSING THE TRUE PURPOSE:
RAKDOS!!! Where would Jund standard decks be without Unleash? NOW, WE'VE GOT A LORD! THANK THE GODS!

It might be a slightly convoluted strategy, but this in a Selesnia deck with Cathars' Crusade means your weenie tokens are much more frightening.

Works great with Borborygmos And something like Mycoloth to build up a massive army of potentially big tramplers Maybe splash white for Populate as well as some Naya shennanigans?

Pretty good card, reminds me of Brawn. Also a neat little piece of design, but seems like it's been done before. Idk I guess it just seems like the last two blocks had this major theme of +1/+1 counters and it's getting kind of old.

By itself it's alright, and the trample can be of good use for far more than just evolvers. It's definitely also an upside to have a comparably cheap creature with four power for your Evolve deck. Trample might even work nicely with the Cipher mechanic, even if you just splash black or green - this ceratok at least is not color heavy.

This creature doesn't give counters, it just gives trample to creatures with counters. Learn to read the card.

When Bramblewood Paragon was asked to participate in Gatecrash, little did she realise it wasn't quite the starring role she'd hoped for...

This, Sapphire Drake, and Ivy Lane Denizen have now made Simic my favorite Ravnican guild.
@People replying to Dabok saying he's wrong: he said "quite good with simic". Simic's new mechanic is evolve and many of their evolve creatures would get a +1/+1 counter when this comes down.
Dabok is essentially right. Every creature with evolve has either a lower power or lower toughness than Crowned Ceratok (and Sapphire Drake as well), and a few have both values lower. So when this enters the battlefield, it will trigger every creature with evolve (granted they don't have enough counters to boost their power or toughness above Crowned Ceratok's).

Not bad on his own either.
