That flavor text is ruining my mood.

Now watch there be a spell called Cinder Hatchet in Theros that's strictly worse than this. Somehow.

... But a downgrade from the Molten Halberd.

Please just reprint it with "Catch!" already.

Strictly better than Cinder Hatchet.

How can anyone justify the cost of that thing? Two Searing Spears or three shocks will out hit the thing, activate the Guttersnipe, Sky Summoner or Young Pyromancer more times and still have mana to spare. It hasn't even got the versatility to hit creatures and on that note Boros Charm and Skullcrack laugh at it.

Someone won a game with this at the prerelease after their opponent used Devout Invocation to bring in like 4 angels. It was fantastic.

Probably the best bad card Magic has ever printed -- realizing this thing sucks is a rite of passage.

And it doesn't always suck. In what was the most hilarious pre-release play I've ever had the joy to experience, I exiled this off the ultimate of Chandra, Pyromancer, tossed it to my opponent, and said "Catch!" in the chirpiest voice I could manage. And then we both just lost it. He had been trying to race me instead of swinging at Chandra. I had been whittled down to 4 life. He went from 14 life to -1. We couldn't even fill out the tournament results form for about ten minutes. He was literally crying from laughing so hard.

I believe the word for that kind of moment is 'epic.' From some of the worst cards, come some of the most epic victories.

Not the best card by any stretch, but a nice 1-of finisher nonetheless.

Go away.
I hate you, and so does everybody else. Give us a common Blaze, at least.

Entirely playable. The people complaining don't know how to build casual burn decks, or have been spoiled by lightning bolt.

It still has a place in kitchen table tops. 5 damage is still 5 damage and could easily finish the game.

Run 4 of these.
4 x 5 = 20 damage. Coincidence? This card wins you the game all by itself. It's that good.
I mean it's strictly better than lightning bolt in terms of hand advantage lost to damage dealt.

... I hope you realize the sarcasm.

Strict downgrade in flavor text. Why mess with the classics?

Cinder Hatchet deals 5 damage to target opponent and 1 damage to you.
Why would anyone use this? - Chandra Nalaar

Not as bad as people make it out to be, at least in limited. In an aggressive deck it's not unusual to see an opponent wih life <= 5, but a better board than you.

Reach is good, though usually better when it's at least a Fireball, which hits creatures. In an M14 draft I got killed by Volcanic Geyser with x = 7 right before I could attack with my 11/11 flying firebreathing sliver for lethal.

Flash in Dictate of the Twin Gods at the end of your opponent's turn and chuck one of these at your Boros Reckoner to hit your opponent for 20 damage.

OK so not to bring the hate but as good as catch! was, I think its not so great that they cant try something new. I love the new flavor text made laugh as i almost always see people talk about how one card is strictly better then some other card, makes me feel that the really read these comments
